Student's Review On Asutosh College, Kolkata

Remarks :

It's an old and reputed college of Kolkata. It recently got accredited as an A category institute by NAAC. It has one of the best Journalism and Mass Communication courses in Kolkata. The college is conveniently located in the city with access to all forms of public transportation.

Course Curriculum Overview :

From our year, the choice based credit system (CBCS) was started. So the course of 3 years is divided into 6 semesters with multiple papers in each. The syllabus is fairly updated but the industry exposure is very limited. The faculties are quite knowledgeable.

Placement Experience :

The placement scenario is very poor. There is no on campus placement facility as it's a state run government college. But since it is a reputed college, graduates tend to get preferential treatment while sitting for interviews.

College Events :

There are cultural programs happening almost every month and students are encouraged to actively participate in them. But it is completely upto the students to decide whether they want to participate or not.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I'd rate my curriculum 7/10 because honestly, I believe that a bit more of practical training must be included and taught in reference to the subjects, which would prove to be useful to us in some way or the other when we are out of college.

Placement Experience:

As being admitted during the time of pandemics, huge spikes in placements isn't visible although the college ensures 100 percent placement but i think its a hoax. The students performing average like about 6.5 cgpa are entitled to sit for the placement and media houses like ndtv, aaj tak are the companies to come as of my plan i intend to complete higher studies before sitting for a placement.

Remarks:

The college has a good name and receives awards from institutions such as times, but the education system is not good at all. Being a practical subject, we haven't been taken outside the classroom even once.

Apparently lots of students do bunk classes, but the classes conducted by teachers are always in function for which it ultimately depends upon the students whether they want to bunk or attain classes secondly, politics is an integral part yet are not compus.
