Archana Kalita's Review On Girijananda Chowdhury Institute Of Pharmaceutical Science - [GIPS], Guwahati

Remarks :

GIPS imbibes its vision and mission on the above lines to ultimately make it possible for our students to contribute to the total quality improvement of our state and country. With a group of committed and spirited faculty, GIPS aims at realizing all its cherished objectives. Finally GIPS assures the progress and prosperity of every aspiring student of Pharmaceutical Science and technology.

Course Curriculum Overview :

It provided knowledge required to be a pharmacist. Most Indian universities participate in one or another centralized admission procedure. In summer 2011, an Indian institution was expecting 100% score for gaining admission, highlighting the crisis of confidence in quality of higher education in general and also limitations of admissions process.[5] 2013 National tests and interviews are organized by an independent body composed of members of the participating organizations. Little weight is given to applicants’ past academic record and more to their exam results. Applicants are ranked by exam grades, and submit their preference of universities/programs based on their rank and choice.

Placement Experience :

Introduction. The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job opportunities for Under Graduates and Post Graduates passing out from the college by keeping in touch with reputed firms and industrial establishments. The Placement Cell operates round the year to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates.

College Events :

A game where players (in teams) compete to eliminate opponents by shooting them with guns that thourow water-soluble dye balls. Build a maze in the college ground with materials from a local exhibition centre. That should give you minimum 5 hours of total fun.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Candidates who have passed two years 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination of any approved board or university with not less than 40% marks in any combination comprising P.C.M. or P.C.B or P.C.M.B. Note: In respect of candidates who have taken P.C.M.B. Combination the aggregate of P.C.M. or P.C.B. whichever is higher shall be considered for the purpose of admission. • In case of students belonging to SC/ST/or Category-I, the minimum percentage of marks for admission to B. Pharm course shall be not less than 40% in 10+2 or equivalent examination (P.C.B, or P.C.M. or P.C.M.B.)

Campus Life :

The quality and completeness of our students education is our top priority. We pursue excellence in education and scholarship. We have the responsibility to assure that our graduates will safeguard the health of the public. There is community within the facility and staff that is premised on collegiality, mutual trust, respect, honesty and integrity. The institute is responsible to its students, staff and the faculty to help them grow personally and professionally.

Hostel Facilities :

No. Students can avail of the hostel facility on a first-come-first-serve basis. The hostel is well furnished and comfortable. Its facilities make it an ideal place to stay and study. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Serene and secure, the hostels are designed such that students do not miss their homes. A resident warden, available round the clock, ensures that the student’s requirements are met, and also maintains decorum.

Alumni/Alumna :

The Alumni Association was established in 2014 to solidify relations between GIPS and its alumni. The first Annual Alumni Meet was held on January 27, 2015 on the campus. A resolve was made to make this an annual event to ensure that GIPS continues producing graduates of the highest calibre by consulting those who have already gone thourough the process. This platform will be used to strategize and implement initiatives that will promote long-term growth of the institution, opportunities for networking and career advancement, increased alumni and community involvement, and financial stability.

Admission :

Entrance exam, personal interview. University admission or college admission is the process thourough which students enter tertiary education at universities and colleges. Systems vary widely from country to country, and sometimes from institution to institution. In many countries, prospective university students apply for admission during their last year of high school or community college. In some countries, there are independent organizations or government agencies to centralize the administration of standardized admission exams and the processing of applications.

Faculty :

States have their own admissions exams and policies. For example, the state of Maharashtra uses the HSC test as a prerequisite for entering Degree level college and uses the SSC test as a prerequisite for entering Junior Level college as well as Diploma Level College. Apart from that 15% reserved for NRI / Foreign students. Recently the medical exam known as PMT was dropped with introduction of a nationalised exam known as NEET.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My love for chemistry and the eager to more know about the drugs and its action convinced me to choose pharmacy as a career. The study of pharmacy enhances healthcare delivery, supports public health initiatives ,and contributes to the advancement of medical science , ultimately improving quality of life and health outcomes for individuals and communities. Inclusion of skills like pharmacovigilence and medical coding in the laboratory practicals would help students in the long run. There are 3 sessional exams taken with a gap of approx. 45 days between them, end semester exams are conducted in 90-120 days from the day of commencement of the semester classes

Pursue something on medical field made me make my mind to do Bachelor of Pharmacy. Though the world is developing but together the rate of health problems are also increasing tremendously and here pharmacists play a significant role . The area where this course can be improve is by increasing the practical knowledge rather than theory. We have two sessional and one semester exam in the time period of 6 months.

The placements are okay okay. Not very good companies come to recruit students of final year. Only MBA students get a high package salary in a good company. Other departments don't get these much of placements as compared to MBA.

The course is good and the faculty is nice too. The faculty could be better if they tried to give notes and make us understand much better. Sometimes they give too many assignments but it's okay that's what we are meant to do.
