Remarks :
College is situated in a remote area with the nearest airport situated 3 hours from the campus and outside campus apart from a big bazaar there's not much. So anything people do is inside the campus. Societies fests and programs here and there offer most of the required enjoyment.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum considering that this is the oldest of all IITs is kind of outdated in some cases. Although most of the subjects that I have come across are in some way or other inclined towards engineering research fields but the fact that in a time where we have so many CAD softwares and simulation softwares yet we have to draw using pen paper in most labs is kind of hectic. The exams are kind of tedious and tough although labs and classes are mostly evenly spaced out and gives ample time for one to explore interests.
Placement Experience :
Placements are good. Although compared to IIT Bombay and Delhi, the number of international placements is less still domestic placements are decent with companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Jaguar. Yes college offers internships in various ongoing projects across departments. Professors involved provide an excellent guidance and it's a really wonderful learning experience.
College Events :
The two major fests include Khsitij which is Asia's largest techno management fest. Sees participation of students from all over the continental in fields like robotics, business studies, data analytics, software and many more. The other is spring fest which is a cultural fest flocked by people from all over the country in what is called as the best 3 days in KGP sees dance music beatbox and a load of fun activities. Apart from these there are department fests and also a global entrepreneurship summit.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
After the new fee revision, the fees went up more than double. Previously the tution fee was 45k per semester and it went up to 1L per semester and right now one has to pay nearly 1.4L per semester including boarding and mess charges. It can get tough for students who come from a not so well financial background. Also college provides a number of scholarships to such students and the fees also are less for them.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There's an MCM scholarship which is very popular and is for students with not so well economic background. It almost covers the whole of the tution fees and can also be used as a security against late fee payment
Campus Life :
Extra curricular activities are abundant with almost 70 societies and research groups there's no end to the possibilities in the college. Gender ratio is at around 15 percent which is increasing gradually. Everyone here is a part of the KGP community and it is a piece of cake to approach anyone for absolutely anything.
Hostel Facilities :
I am currently in a 3 sharing hostel room which is quite sufficient for staying. Hostel and mess charges are 12000 per semester. Washrooms are common lavatories which are kept generally clean every morning by the cleaning staff.
Alumni/Alumna :
Alumni network is very vast and strong. And the alumni themselves are often very helpful. They can provide really nice mentorship and advice. They also fund their respective hostels and the college during alumni meets and can even help one to get internships and jobs.
Admission :
IITs are the most prestigious institutes in India for engineering. So it was a dream to get into an IIT and take up a core subject in my case Mechanical Engineering. Two years of preparation and I cleared JEE mains and JEE advanced with a rank good enough to get a seat in the oldest IIT
Faculty :
Faculties in IITs are always very talented and highly qualified without doubt. They have had without an exception an extraordinary academic record and got their degrees from prestigious universities all over the globe. That's where the thing ends. All of them were great students in their times but being an outstanding student and being a good teacher is different. Though most of them
