Remarks :
The College could develop on Infrastructure and aim to make the student life slightly less taxing. The uniform imposed on the students for all bus two days a week is something that is highly shunned by the students. That is not however, a negative remark. A great place to receive quality legal education.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is extensive and well-planned. It is in accordance to the Bar Council of India rules as well as certain additional standards set by the University. The internal exams are well planned and focus on all kinds of dynamic learning. Research papers, group discussions, vivas, conventional tests and open-book tests are some of the examples of the kinds of internals given to the students. The external exams have a small objective section followed by the subjective questions. The additional study material provided by the faculty is helpful in effective exam preparation and sufficient recourse is provided for review and assessment of one's performance at every step of the way.
Placement Experience :
The College has an efficient Placement Cell. They assist the first and second year students with contacts in order to gain placements. Whereas from the third year onwards, they have sitting recruiters for internships and placements. Any externally obtained placements are supposed to be verified with the placement cell in order to ensure that every student is being provided with quality placements. They collect a report and interview each student at the end of every internship. Stipends vary and are based on the quality of the recruiter as well as the year the student is studying in. However, the general notion is that students of private law schools are likely to be paid lesser than students of National Law Universities.
College Events :
We have an annual cultural fest Symbhav which happens to be one of the largest in Pune as well as India. We also have an annual Parliamentary Debate, an annual research conference called SYMROLIC and multiple other academic events where international as well as national scholars are invited to conduct seminars or sit as Panelists. There is significant participation in these both from the students within the College as well as other institutions.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure right now is about 1, 60, 000 per semester. This is only College fees. In every sense, this is an expensive College but it proves to be worth the money. The standard of living around the area of Pune that the College is situated in is also high.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There are scholarships for the highest performing student in each course. There are also sports scholarships and other scholarships provided by the University. The scope for these seem to be fairly low. Student loans are easily provided by banks for the reputation that this College holds.
Campus Life :
The College is immensely involved in extra-curricular activities of all kinds. Numerous student cells and committees ensure the smooth functioning of all activities. There is efficient budgeting and reimbursement policies for students representing College in MOOTS, MUNs, PDs, fests and sports. There is a Gender Champions initiative within the College that works towards gender equality and sexuality awareness. The students are known for their ability to party. However, this happens in one of the many pubs in the area and not on campus. In terms of both students and professors, there are slightly more number of women than men.
Hostel Facilities :
The girls hostels are either on campus or near campus. The hostel facilities for boys are all private but they are affiliated to the College and cost around the same. All hostels are well equipped with facilities. The rooms are either 2 or 3 sharing with attached bathrooms. Refrigerators, Induction stoves, microwaves and other facilities are provided in the common rooms. For hostels slightly far away from College, regular shuttle facilities are provided. Most students do begin renting apartments around campus in their 2nd or 3rd year. However, one could stay in the hostels for all 5 years as well.
Alumni/Alumna :
Every senior in College is a nice and helpful person. There is absolutely no form of bullying or ragging. A very positive environment in general. Even the 4th and 5th years are extremely helpful to the fresh batches. Every moot team is assigned a strategist from the 4th or 5th year batch where they help and guide the team. An inclusive and great set of seniors in general. The alumni network is extensive and a constant stream of alumni are always invited to the College for guest lectures and interactive sessions. There is also an annual alumni meet.
Admission :
I chose this course because it seemed to have high reputation in the field of law. Besides the top NLUs, SLS was certainly in my top 5 College options. I had to write their entrance exam SLAT, in my home town of Bangalore. It follows a similar pattern to CLAT. Based on decided cutoffs, I was invited to Pune for a Personal Interview and a Written Aptitude Test. The interview involved some questions about myself and a basic legal aptitude assessment which was done verbally. The Written Aptitude Test was basically an essay about current affairs topics that were predecided. The results were then released in a week and payment of the first semester fees was available on an online portal. The admission process is efficient and the people are very helpful.
Faculty :
The faculty is highly qualified and about 2 to 3 teachers are assigned for every course. The teaching aids employed in the course of teaching are all original and helpful to the students. The faculty is always available to help students and the classes are highly interactive. Interest is generated in each course through a regular stream of invited Guest Lecturers who are proficient in the field with respect to the subject taught. This assists the students in gaining practical experience as to the implementation of the theoretical knowledge taught in College.
