Remarks :
NITK is one of the top institutes of India. It is, in fact, ranked among the top 50 college's of India which include institutes like IITs. All in all, NITK provides excellent education while also focusing on the wholesome development of an individual.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum for information technology (IT) is pretty balanced. It contains a mix of all the subjects which an IT engineer must know, as well as the current hot topics. There are a few outdated courses too. In any course, we must write (atleast) 2 exams - 1 mid semester and 1 end semester exam. Both of which account for around 50-70% of the grade. The rest of the weightage is covered by projects and lab evaluation.
Placement Experience :
Our college boasts of a nearly 100% placement rate. In my branch, i.e. Information Technology, almost all the students are placed every year. The average salary is around 10-12 lpa. Several companies visit the college for in campus placement, including companies like Google, Amazon, etc. Our college also has companies visiting for recruitment of interns. Around 70-80% of IT students score internships every year. Our college doesn't provide internships directly, however, one may undergo a research internship under any of our college professors.
College Events :
Over the year, several events take place in NITK, the two largest of those being our Technical fest - "Engineer" and our cultural fest - "Incident". "Incident" is the 3rd largest cultural fest amongst all the college's of India. It is a 3-4 day event which focuses on cultural activities like dance, music, art, etc. On the other hand, the technical fest comprises of science related events. There are several other events, like E summit (by E-cell), NITK conclave, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure is feasible for an average, general household. There are allowances for backward caste students as well as financially deprived students. The regular fee for a general student is around 90000Rs / semester so I would say it is pretty feasible.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There are some scholarships available for certain eligible students. For instance, Students with a defense background (army, navy, etc) are eligible for a yearly scholarship. There are several other scholarships for home state students, branch topper students, and students who are financially backward.
Campus Life :
Our college supports extra curricular activities. It has two big grounds for all the outdoor sports, and two sports buildings for the indoor sports. All sports can be played in our campus itself - cricket, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, chess, squash, and even swimming among others. Our college has teams for every sport and activiley participates in inter college events. The labs are equipped with the latest technology and are generally well maintained.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostels are relatively old and the infrastructure is not that good. It has all the basic amenities like drinking water, bathrooms, washrooms, etc. There are single, double and triple sharing rooms available, depending on which year you are studying in. The washrooms and bathrooms are generally well maintained, and water supply is maintained throughout the year. There are table tennis tables and carrom boards in all of the hostels.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is not that strong, however the seniors are very helpful. Ragging is not at all prevelant in my college, and one can approach a senior at any time for any kind of help - be it Academic or extracurricular.
Admission :
To get an admission into National institute of technology, Karnataka (NITK), I wrote the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-MAIN), and scored 224/360 marks in it. I got a merit of around 4500 out of all the students who appeared for the exam. I got selected in the college based on my JEE MAIN merit.
Faculty :
The faculty of NITK are all very knowledgeable and experienced. All the professor have completed their doctorate. Most of the teachers have deep understanding of their subject, and can be approached at any time to clarify doubts.
