My College Review

Remarks :

Any student graduated from our college were proud because they studied in RIT KOTTAYAM. They were taught to be professionals with ethics. This is a positive remark that I thought of about my college. Placement cell of our college was not able to find enough employers from core fields for mechanical and civil departments. Civil engineering and mechanical engineering graduates were placed in IT fields which were not their field of study. This, I think, is a negative remark about my college.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is based on APJ Abdul Kalam technological University Btech curriculum. It is 8 semester wide course including many theory and practical papers. The course duration is four years. Civil engineering mainly deals with design and construction of structures. There was 2 mandatory projects. First one was a design project in the sixth semester and the second project was the main project in the final semester. There was a seminar paper in the seventh semester. In my opinion, the course curriculum was able to impart professional education to students from all sectors of the society to mould them to be competent, committed, research oriented and socially responsible citizens capable of deploying technology for the goodwill of society. There will be 2 internal exams and 1 University level exam for each paper. From 1st to 7th semester, we had 6 theory papers and 2 lab papers in each semester. In the final semester, we had 4 theory papers and a main project.

Placement Experience :

There is placement cell in the college. The main goal of placement cell is to train students to perform well in competitive recruitment processes. Placement cell act as an interface between graduating students with potential and prospective employers. Placement cell trains final year students to attend interviews and perform well in the recruitment processes of employers. There are many students who got jobs before graduating. TCS, UST GLOBAL, QUEST, VIPRO, SOUTH INDIAN BANK are some examples of employers came to my college in 2019

College Events :

There were a number of events in the college from the beginning of the semester. Cultural events were celebrated like festivals. KELI was the arts festival of RAJIV GANDHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (RIT KOTTAYAM). RITU was the techfest of RIT. There were many inter-departmental tech fests and cultural programs like VASTHEYA of civil engineering department and PROMINENCE of ECE DEPARTMENT.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fees structure is based on the government regulations. Only an amount Rs 8500 per year was needed for the tution fees. There was a bus facility, which cost Rs 900 per year. Exam fees and course registration costs 200 per each paper. Rs 1000 is needed annually for PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION. Overall an estimate of 15000 is enough for an academic year.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There were scholarships for every student. As my college was a government college, many government sponsored scholarships were there. I was an awarded an amount of 20000 rs during each year from a government sponsored scholarship program called MERIT CUM MEANS SCHOLARSHIP. Any student without back papers will get this scholarship. E- grants were another government sponsored scholarship which awards 5000rs per year for every student eligible to study next year.

Campus Life :

There were a lot of extra curricular activities during the course. There were college team for most of the games like football, cricket, volleyball etc. Inter-departmental matches were conducted. My college was the football champions for 2 years during my 4 year course. Each department has it's own lab facilities. Mechanical labs of our college were one among the best labs available in Kerala. They had better infrastructure and all facilities which needed. In Kerala, Fab labs were first introduced in our college.

Hostel Facilities :

I have opted for private hostel near the college. I stayed in a room of three. Hostel had a mess. Mess costs approximately 2500rs per month and accommodation costs 1200rs per month. Hostel infrastructure facilities were good and the hostel was close to the college, so there no travel expenses.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni of our college contributes to many programs like tech fests and cultural events. The open air theatre of my college was alumni sponsored project. They supports college programs financially and whatever way possible.

Admission :

I have written the entrance exam named KEAM which is conducted in May of 2015. The exam is conducted by Kerala government. There was 2 papers for KEAM. Paper 1 was mathematics and paper 2 was physics and chemistry. I secured 245 marks out of 900. The ranks for the exam was calculated based on 50% 12th marks and 50% on entrance exam. I have got 5781 rank in all Kerala. I got admission on basis of this rank. The admission was allotted through KEAM website. I got admission in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of technology - Btech in civil engineering.

Faculty :

In my opinion, faculty at my college were highly qualified professors. Most of them are graduated from prestigious institutions of country like IITs and NITs. Most of the senior professors in my college had a PhD. As my college was a goverment college, facilities were chosen through PSC ( public service commission ), they had gone through a very competitive level recruitment process. Most of them were friendly and had helping mentality in both academic and extra curricular activities.
