Is it worth paying the higher fees to go to ISB? Why?

TK
T Umesh Kumar Posted On : January 30th, 2023
AMPH from Indian School of Business

My answer is going to be extremely biased as my sister has been a victim of ISB Hyderabad’s high fees and poor placement opportunities. This answer is meant to shed some light on this issue.

ISB Hyderabad MBA fees are currently INR 41,98,000 (plus GST) while the batch size is around 900. The Institute has failed to cater to the huge batch size and has witnessed a decline in the quality of education and placements in ISB Hyderabad.

The best roles are very scarce and are given only to the students with the top grades. Others end up with below-average packages. As far as the specialization is concerned, Finance jobs are almost non-existent at ISB Hyderabad. Consulting is one of the leading domains here and the top 3 firms do visit the campus. But the number of roles offered by them is not enough for the huge batch.

The other roles offered are mediocre and not at par with the hefty fees 900 students have paid. They expect better packages and after realizing the actual scenario feel wronged.

ISB Hyderabad MBA is not suitable if

  • you earn around 16 Llacs with more than 3 years of work experience
  • you are a software engineer in top product companies
  • you are already from a good engineering college like IITs, BITS, and Top NITs

So we can safely conclude that ISB Hyderabad is an overrated Institute and its rankings are misleading. The reality of the institute begs to differ.

Is 60 LPA a good salary for the IT industry with 12+ years experience in Bangalore having both an IIT IIM combination?

RC
Rahul Chatterjee Posted On : December 19th, 2022
B.E. from Gujarat Technological University (Graduated 2017)

Yes, 60 LPA is indeed a pretty decent salary for someone working in the IT industry. In fact, after 12 years do people even work for a salary anymore? I think their work-life needs other factors for motivation. These include your growth in the particular field, your understanding of the recent trends, you are being able to undertake risks successfully, or the recognition of things that might be beneficial for you in the long run. What I mean is after a long period of 12 years your salary is no longer the motivating factor. So instead of looking for a higher salary, focus on your own life and personal growth.

Is it a better choice for choosing FMS, Delhi over IIM-B and IIM-C?

RA
Ruchika Agarwal Posted On : December 27th, 2022
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2020)

No, choosing FMS Delhi over IIMB or IIMC is definitely not a good decision as you will be missing out on so many opportunities. Some of them include

  • Student exchange programs: The top 3 IIMS have student exchange programs wherein almost 30% of the batch spends one term at a European B School. Also, IIM Calcutta is a part of CEMS. 25 students from IIMC are offered the most coveted CEMS MiM degree.
  • Placements: Without any doubt, the top IIMs have the best placement drives than any other B school in India. All the major companies like McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and AT Kearney visit the campus and hire 50+ students every year. Even if the same companies visit FMS M, the roles offered are different. Also despite being good for marketing, the biggest giants in FMCG don’t visit the campus regularly. So top jobs are offered at IIM ABC and FMS misses out on this opportunity.
  • Campus Life: With no hostel facility, FMS Delhi has non-existent campus life. Meanwhile, all the other IIMs have beautiful campuses, excellent infrastructure, and hostel facilities.
  • Brand name: Without any doubt, IIMs have a bigger brand name than FMS.
  • ROI: ROI or Return on Investment is higher for IIMs than FMS in the long run. Although due to the payment of loans initially, ROI will seem less than FMS(low fees), that’s not the case. IIMs provide better opportunities, global recognition, and an alumni base that add to the ROI value.

You won’t lose anything from joining IIMS over FMS.

Should I join IIM Bangalore given that I am already earning 20 lpa (base) at Amazon?

PS
Prabu Siva Posted On : December 19th, 2022
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (Graduated 2021)

No, I don’t think you should join IIM Bangalore and pursue MBA given that you are already receiving INR 20 LPA (base).

If your base is INR 20 LPA then the package should be around INR 25 LPA. An MBA from IIM Bangalore will also get you placed with a similar package maybe around INR 30 LPA. This does not make much difference considering the high fees you will have to pay. In Fact you will be leaving out the market risk, performance, opportunity costs and the increment that you will probably get in the next two years.

So an MBA from IIM Bangalore does not seem a good option since you are already working at an esteemed organization with an above average salary.

Is IGNOU a good university?

SC
Sourath Chatterjee Posted On : October 20th, 2022
BA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) (Graduated 2019)

Yes. IGNOU is definitely not just a degree-making university. The quality of study materials is pretty good and it’s not easy to pass the exams. This makes it not the best but a pretty good university. Also, don’t forget the fact that it's the world's largest open university.

IGNOU is a well-reputed and recognized university. The degrees are also favourably accepted for employment posing no problem due to distance learning.

Another benefit one can avail from IGNOU is its affordable fee structure. You can spend only INR 50,000-60,000 on your graduation and still get placed at a major MNC. Ultimately it’s up to you to decide if the university is good or bad

Should I join IIM Calcutta or IIM Kozhikode? I am an average student who somehow managed to do well in the CAT and convert both of these but want a fair shot at being in the better half of the batch

JJ
Jitha Johni Posted On : November 11th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2020)

Both IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode are top-notch management institutes in India. The majority of people claim that IIMC is better than IIMK just because it has a strong alumni connection and extremely experienced faculty.

But don’t make your decision solely based on this. Keep your aim in mind before deciding.

Choose IIM Calcutta if-

  • You want your personality to be developed to the maximum extent

  • You have a knack for Maths and Analytical Skills Development

Choose IIM Kozhikode if-

  • You want to be in the top 1% of the class

  • You prefer an institute with less dynamism

  • If you are average at Maths and Analytical Skills Development

The final decision is yours to make.

Is it worth it to go into 6 new IIMs (Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Udaipur, Trichy & Kashipur) rather than going for an MS?

PS
Puneet Srivastava Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Selected in IIM-IPM'17

Before choosing a college, try to make sure what you are really interested in. If it is MS then don’t go for any IIM. This is because you can pursue an MBA later in life if MS did not work for you. But you will not get the chance to choose Ms after your MBA. Also since it’s your area of interest, chances are you might find your talents and may want to work on them.

Now if you are sure about the course but confused about the IIMs, I will give you my honest opinion. The new IIMs are enjoying fame and glory owing to the achievements of their predecessors alone. They haven’t done much to attain the level of older IIMs. These new IIMs are poorly organized. The faculty is below average, the infrastructure is substandard and the teaching is pathetic. Yet they are here to claim the coveted IIM tag.

So if you are someone for whom the tag of IIM and its high placement matters only, you can surely go for a new IIM. But if you value education over institutions then base your decision on research.

Is Anna University's counselling different for CBSE and matriculating students?

GV
Gomathi Venkat Posted On : December 1st, 2022
B.Tech. in Industrial Biotechnology ,Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2008)

No, the counselling procedure is the same for both CBSE and matriculating students. You will be counseled in the batches as per your cut off. But the cutoff calculation procedure is different for CBSE and matriculating students.

For State Board students Cut off= (math/2) + (phy/4)+(chem/4)

For CBSE students Cut off= (math) +(phy/2)+(chem/2)

Apart from this CBSE students get normalisation as it’s difficult to get such high cut offs. Under this, usually 5 marks are added to your cutoff.

Is BHU better for UPSE preparation

SK
Sneha Kumari Posted On : November 10th, 2022
Economics from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

Banaras Hindu University or BHU is not just better but it’s the best for UPSC preparation. There are many examples of students passing the UPSC exam from this university. One such example is Sachin Kumar. He was a student of MA (Political Science) and managed to top the CAPF exam without any extra tuition. His delegation combined with the university’s quality education helped him climb the ladder.

I have mentioned some pros of the university to explain why you should go for BHU:

  • Hostels- The best thing about BHU has to be its amazing hostels with great facilities and surrounded with lush green beauty. The ambiance is perfect for the preparation of any kind of exam. The AND hostel is one of the best. The hostels are extremely affordable around INR 80 per month.

  • Facilities- Every resident of the hostel can easily access the classes, food, playground, gym, pool, and other facilities. Free Wi-Fi facility is also available 24/7.

  • Social activities- The hostels at BHU celebrate all the festivals which bring together students from different communities. This helps develop an emotional bond and makes hostel life memorable.

All in all, BHU is the right choice for UPSC preparation. You will not regret your decision.
