In 2021, one of my friends attended the IIM Ahmedabad interview. IIM A was the only IIM to conduct in-center interviews last year. Students were required to go to the center give AWT, and attend their interview through video conference.

After the identity verification, students were asked to wait in a room for AWT. When the AWT round was over, they were called for an interview. My friend was 3rd in her panel.

  • They asked a few questions regarding her background and past academics, first.
  • After the introduction was done, they asked why she wanted to do an MBA.
  • There were few other questions regarding politics and current events.
  • She was also asked whether she got any placement offers or not.

Her interview went well and she was able to convert the call.

The interview experiences differ among every individual. One of my friends has shared her experiences and it can be completely different for you or any other person. Although, she is still keen on sharing herInterview Experience, hoping it may be of some benefit for you.

My friend was a Chartered Accountant with no working experience, and her educational qualifications includes the following:

Categories

Marks Obtained

BCom

6.5/7 (CGPA)

10th

91.08%

12th

87.67%

CAT

99.37%ile (with ~98%ile in each sections)

She was interviewed at The Orchid in Mumbai, dated 18th March. There were two male panels, P(Professor of Quant) and A(An Alumnus). IIM A organises an AWT before the PI, similar to AWA of the GMAT. The topic given to them was the working week that currently is 5 days of work and 2 holidays and the benefit of moving to a workweek of 3-1-2-1. They were to condemn this within 20 min, post which the interview took place.

After general greetings, the interview started and they asked about the chartered accountant degree. Questioned about her knowledge of Finance which she mentioned was her favourite subject. It included analyzing Capital Budgeting, rentals, fusions & acquisitions, appraisals, future options, swaps, debt appraisals, etc.

The questions followed with what were her plans for the long term, what does statistically outperform mean, the difference between Statistical Data and Historical Data, What is risk and how to measure it.

There were more questions they asked about her preferred subject and started grilling her up but the key to crack the interview was the confidence that you carry and the pressure to deal and keep your nerves calm in that particular situation.
