What was your CGPA at IIM Ahmedabad and how did you achieve it?
Few of my friends attended IIM Ahmedabad. One of them scored 3.56 in his first year. Here are some of the common traits that you will observe in most people who score good CGPA.
- Attend classes regularly and internalize. The case-based pedagogy of IIM Ahmedabad is unique. You will learn a lot from the professors as well as your peers.
- Prepare for class. Read the case study that will be discussed in class.
- Select a good study group.
- Some examinations are different. Just subjective learning isn’t enough in these cases, you will have to complement it with objective aptitude.
Doing these will help you score better.

- Attend classes regularly. Try to prepare diligently for your classes. Read cases which you are going to study in class. Once you are done, reflect on the class discussion. This will give you a competitive advantage.
- IIMA has a concept of study groups. You will do your group assignments with a group of people. Luck plays a crucial role in determining whether you get hard-working people or not. If you do, you will have a good chance of doing well academically.
- Some subjects need a different approach in preparation. Along with subjective learning, you will need to practice numerical problems too.
With the right strategy and determination, you can score a decent CGPA.

One of my friends completed her MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. During graduation, her CGPA was 3.6 and she used to rank at 15th in the batch of 400 students.
Scoring well in IIM Ahmedabad is definitely difficult, here are some of the points which may be useful
Attend class:
- Attend your classes regularly. Half of your job is done by listening to the professors and making relevant notes during classes.
- Your own notes are the most trusted and handy resources which would help you immensely.
- Most people end up sleeping in class and not in the hostel rooms - continued in the next point.
Sleep well:
- It is a general misconception that folks at IIM A survive on 4 hours of sleep.
- Most people can’t properly function without 8 hours of sleep. So try to make it a point to turn in pretty early and not succumb to peer pressure.
Peer Group:
- Make some good friends and stay away from the rest. Everyone will suggest you as per his perception and experience.
- In an incredibly competitive environment, it is natural to give way to suggestions. But this is where you go wrong. Listen to everyone, but do what’s best for you, in your opinion. Let yourself decide for yourself.
- Accordingly, choose or create the group that caters to your needs. Focus only on academics if you need to.
Do well at what you focus on:
- You will find pretty smart people in every batch and it may become quite hard to do well unless you amplify your efforts in academics.
- If you believe that something adds value to you and is important, focus on it. Do not succumb to peer pressure.
- Eventually, your diligence would fetch you success.
