I wouldn’t suggest you take admission to any new IIM if you are not ready to commit yourself to hard work both in terms of academics and extracurriculars. The Baby IIMs require determination and dedication and if you lack any of these, it’s better to look for other options.

The opportunities offered by the new IIMs are way ahead and unique when compared to the older ones. You shouldn’t join a new IIM merry to enjoy the benefits from the IIM tag because that alone won’t suffice it. It's better to take a drop year and target an older IIM than go for a new one that is yet to make its mark in the industry.

The new IIMs are suitable for those who are ready to work and toil and take advantage of opportunities in building a new institute. Most students will end up with a job but it’s not a brainer that there will be a big compromise and namesake job compared to the colorful careers an IIM brand promises.

It depends on your profile. If you are a general category student with good academic records - more than 85 percent throughout 10th, 12th, and graduation, then old IIMs will be better.

If you aren’t getting the old IIMs, you can consider new IIMs like IIM Nagpur, Sambalpur, Vizag, Amritsar, Sirmaur, and Bodhgaya. Being part of any recently established institute is a different experience altogether. You will get to set the culture on campus which your juniors will inherit. These baby IIMs have decent placements. You will get placement opportunities through campus drive if you have a good academic record. Here are the average CTC statistics for these IIMs.

Institute  Average CTC
IIM Nagpur  INR 15.21 LPA
IIM Vizag INR 15.06 LPA
IIM Amritsar INR 14.63 LPA
IIM Sirmaur  INR 12.74 LPA
IIM Bodhgaya  INR 12.36 LPA
IIM Sambalpur  INR 12.64 LPA

If you are willing to work hard and want to take advantage of opportunities that come with newly established institutes, then you should join these new IIMs.

Yes, the newer IIMs are a good option, if you work hard for them. As they are new establishments, you get to experience the new culture and adapt to it in your own way.

IIM Sirmaur is progressing at a really fast pace even though it has been recently established. Many top companies offered internship offers for proper industrial exposure. Comparing them with the older IIMs makes no sense as they have years of experience.

In terms of academics, IIM Sirmaur provides the best to prepare the students for the future. Even if they do not secure on-campus placements, they are prepared so well that they are able to grab many opportunities off-campus as well.

No matter how old or new an IIM is, it is important to understand that the brand value it offers will certainly be a highlight of your career and will go a long way. It is the education the IIM provides that makes it stand out among others.
