Which one is better, mechanical in IIT Bhubaneswar or electrical in IIT Dhanbad?

I am a second year B.Tech Mechanical Engineering student at IIT Bhubaneswar.

The professors in our department are outstanding. Besides possessing expertise in the fundamental concepts of this field, they have produced high-impact research papers on a variety of subjects.

As of now, the 2023-24 B.Tech Mechanical batch at IIT Bhubaneswar has recorded 94.34% placements. Presently, the highest package is INR 27 LPA, the 4th highest among all B.Tech branches. The average ctc is INR 11.96 LPA for B.Tech Mechanical. The placements will continue till the end of August 2024.

Although the ranking and placements of IIT Dhanbad are superior, the School of Mechanical Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar has some of the best teachers and a rich course curriculum.

I would personally recommend you join Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar, but the choice is ultimately yours.

It is difficult to compare two institutes when the choice of the branch is different. You should choose the institute based on the branch you are interested in. IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Dhanbad both are among the new IITs, although IIT Dhanbad is an old institute with well-developed infrastructure and a huge alumni base compared to that of IIT Bhubaneswar. NIRF has ranked IIT Dhanbad and IIT Bhubaneswar 15th and 17th respectively in the engineering category.

The mechanical engineering department one of the most developed departments at IIT Bhubaneswar and it has been present in the institute form the inception. In 2019 the JEE Advanced cutoff for mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar was 4003-12699 (general category). The fees for the first-year is INR 2.14 LPA.

In the 2019 placements, 83% of the mechanical engineers got jobs. A total of 89 companies visited the campus of IIT Bhubaneswar for the placement drive. The core and PSU sectors, along with top MNCs, participated in the campus drive. The average package offered was INR 11.4 LPA.

In 2019 the JEE Advanced closing rank for electrical at IIT Dhanbad was 3189-11247 (general category). The course fee for the first year is INR 2.3 LPA.
