Which should I choose, SVNIT Surat or MNNIT Allahabad?

SVNIT Surat has a better location, it is placed in the heart of the city with malls, parks. It is in a posh area with hospitals, clinics, cinema halls, food outlets like McDonald's, KFC, dominos, pizza hut everything's reachable within minutes. But overall, MNNIT Allahabad is a potential choice as it is on par in every aspect.

Abhinandan Aggarwal is one of the prominent coders of India. He studied B.tech from MNNIT Allahabad and became the most exceptional coder of that MNNIT Allahabad has ever witnessed.
He was the batch mate of my brother and I have heard a lot of stories about him.
- Abhinandan did his first coding when he was a kid, merely in grade eight. He was given to multiply big numbers as his homework and doing it manually was too mainstream for him so, he wrote a code to do it instead.
- Besides being exceptional in academics, every one from his batch knows that Abhinandan is a fun person in real life.

Abhinandan Agarwal did not become the best over time, rather he was born like that. He was a child prodigy and wrote his first code at merely eight years of age in the language Brainfuck. He wrote it to multiply two numbers. At the time, his homework contained multiplication questions. He had to multiply large numbers, and thought it was too mainstream to complete this task manually.
He is a down to earth, humble and modest individual. He is a helpful and loyal friend. His mannerisms and behavior makes him very likable, just like a guy next door. He has good management skills, and is a very hardworking and dedicated person.
I hope he achieves a lot more in his career, and brings honor to MNNIT Allahabad.

What should I go for, IT in NIT Surathkal or CS in NIT Allahabad? I want to go for Surathkal but don't know if IT is a good option.
One of my friends was doubtful whether the hindi-speaking culture of MNNIT will have any impact on her English communication skills. If you are doubtful regarding the same, I would say you need not worry uselessly.
Students from MNNIT clear CAT with good scores. This wouldn’t have been possible without clearing the CAT verbal paper. Students converse in Hindi on campus simply because most of them belong to North India. This won’t have any negative effect on your English proficiency. Also, the professors deliver lectures in English. Other than that, to keep enhancing your English skills, you can join the English Literature group of MNNIT.
As far as your options are concerned, MNNIT is known for its top notch education in CSE. It is one of the best colleges in India for a CSE program. Also, the placements offered at MNNIT are quite impressive, especially for its CSE branch.
According to me, you should choose CSE at MNNIT over IT at NIT Surathkal.
From which year are MNNIT Allahabad students given single-seater rooms?
The scenario of hostel room allotment is different for girls and boys at MNNIT.
Girl students do not get single seater rooms even in their B.Tech final year. Final year girls get two seater rooms.
Now as for boys,
- Freshers are allotted Swami Vivekananda Hostel, and each room contains 3 people. It is a newly constructed 7 floor hostel building. The rooms are nice, except for the lack of LAN connection and below average mess food. The in-time is 8:30 pm.
- During the second year, one has a choice. Either one can choose the senior hostel complexes- Patel Hostel / Tilak Hostel, or opt for Tagore Hostel. The earlier two have 2 seater rooms, while Tagore is 4 seater. Tagore Hostel is exclusively made for second year students, and it is spacious. But it is far from the college campus, so one has to walk a lot for the whole year. Patel and Tilak are old hostels, and inhabited by senior students as well.
- In third year, one gets a hostel from among the four senior hostels- Patel, Tilak, Tandon and Malviya. The rooms are two seaters, but there is a single LAN port in the rooms, so wifi sharing is predominant.
- During fourth year, one is allotted a hostel among the four senior hostels. But as a final year student, one gets a single room.

Which is better, CS at NIT Allahabad or IT at NIT Surathkal?
Honestly, there isn't any major difference between CSE and IT branches as both are related to computers. The job opportunities are almost similar. So, you should prioritize college over branch in your case. NIT Surathkal is much better than MNNIT Allahabad and this can be further understood through the points below
Location: NIT Surathkal has an advantage over NIT Allahabad due to its location near Bangalore, the IT hub of India. Most Bangalore-based companies firstly visit NITK Surathkal. Last year major companies like Microsoft, DE Shaw, Uber, Amazon, Oracle and visited the campus last year.
Coding Culture: Recently 23 students from NIT Surathkal were selected for Google Summer of Code (GSOC) which is 4th Highest in the World. Which has the best IT and the highest package for placements: IIIT Allahabad or Motilal Nehru NIT (MNNIT) Allahabad? What is the average package of each till 2015 placements?

- Faculty- The professors of IT at both the colleges are highly renowned, and always ready to help their students.
- Infrastructure- IIIT Allahabad is new, so it has better infrastructure. But MNNIT has state-of-the-art labs and facilities. Some of these facilities are- CIR (Center for Interdisciplinary Research), Design Centre, STPI (s/w Technology park of India), etc.
- Campus and Hostel Life- MNNIT has a much better campus and hostel life.
- Alumni- The alumni of MNNIT Allahabad are present in every part of the globe. Being a much older institute, it has a higher number of notable alumni in reputed positions around the world.
- Coding Culture- IIIT Allahabad has a better coding culture, and this has been proven by the performance of its students in ACM-ICPC, GSOC, etc. MNNIT certainly does not lag far behind, thanks to the computer club classes by final year students.
- Curriculum- The curriculum of IIITA is centered around Computer Science, right from the first year itself. MNNIT delivers few programming courses in the first year, but the syllabus mainly begins from second year onwards.
- Placements- Amazon, Flipkart ,eBay, Snapdeal, Cisco, Citrix, LinkedIn, Visa, etc. visit the IT department of MNNIT Allahabad. In 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT was 24.43 LPA at MNNIT (the highest CTC was 82.63 LPA).
The placement stats for IIITA are better, mainly because of lesser intake. During 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT at IIITA was 34.66 LPA (and the highest CTC was INR 82.50 LPA). Google, Code Nation, etc. visit the department with job offers.

How can I get a better CGPA in MNNIT Allahabad?
Here are some tips to score a better CGPA at MNNIT Allahabad-
- Try scoring well in your internal assessment. It is not that difficult. For this, you’ll have to create a good impression in front of your teachers. Answer their questions during tutorial classes, maintain a good attendance record, and complete your tutorial file on time. This is enough to fetch you good marks in the internals.
- Prepare well for your practical exams and vivas. 2-3 questions will define your viva scores, so give your vivas well prepared.
- Solve previous year questions. This will give you an idea of the exam pattern.
- Make proper notes during lectures so that you have something to revise from during exam season. Making a note of the teachers’ explanation will help you score well during exams.
- Solve all the questions from the tutorial sheets for a good preparation of end sem exams. Tutorial sheets are very important.
- Use standard books recommended by your teachers. During exams, the questions are very similar (and sometimes, even the same) to those given in these books.
- Use the library facility wisely, and search for some good notes related to your subjects over there.
- Divide your time based on the credits carried by each subject. Give more time and focus to the subject that carries more credits.

What are the scholarships available at MNNIT allahabad?
There are a number of scholarship programs available for you at MNNIT Allahabad. Check out the following and their details below.
- NSP (National Scholarship): This scholarship is provided by the govt. of India. You can fill the form online at their official website and then get it verified at Dean Student Welfare. This is open to all students and you can easily apply in the first year itself and it gets renewed every year.
- State Scholarships: Many state governments provide scholarships to students pursuing any technical course like B tech. It all depends on which state you belong to. The scholarship by UP govt. is the most popular one at MNNIT. Besides MP, Rajasthan is also an example. State scholarship for students from Bihar is available online on the NSP portal.
- Student welfare of MNNIT provides scholarships to meritorious students each year. You don’t need to surpass any income level to avail this scholarship. It is given to the top 10% of students of each branch considering their CPI. For first years or fresher's, JEE main rank is the criteria. For this, you are supposed to have a general rank <4000 or around.
- Student Welfare of MNNIT also provides scholarships if you do not possess good financial conditions. To avail of this scholarship, you need to prove with an income certificate stating less than a lakh per year. You should also have a CPI greater than 7.5. This scholarship amounts to about 20,000 rupees.
- Students from JNVs have special scholarships for them. ‘Samsung' provides scholarships, especially for Navodayans.
- CSS or Central Sector Scholarship is provided to SC/ST students.
- ‘Schneider Electric' provides scholarships to 2nd-year students of Electrical Engg and ECE. You need to provide an income certificate of less than 2 lakh. This one is based on your application form and online interview followed by a telephone interview.
