This is my personal experience-

I completed my B.Tech IT from MNNIT Allahabad a few years back. When I was in my second year, I contracted a serious bacterial infection and was bedridden for a month. Due to this, I faced a severe shortage of attendance. However, to take care of this, I contacted all my teachers and explained to them my case. They were all very understanding and cooperative. 

But when I attended a practical class some time later, one of my teachers called me to his office due to a shortage of attendance in his lectures. I then realized that I had forgotten to contact him, and explain to him my case. Despite trying to talk to him about my problem, he refused to listen to me and sent my name to the Dean Academic’s office (along with the names of others who had a low attendance in his lecture). I tried reaching out to the HOD, but it was too late by then. Ultimately, I had to sit for the supplementary exams.

The takeaway is to be aware and not miss your lectures, unless seriously ill. But if you face something like I did, make sure that your parents get in touch with the HOD and all your teachers, and explain to them about your condition in detail. There are some teachers who do not listen to the students’ problems and arrive at hasty conclusions, beware of them.

I recently completed my first year at MNNIT Allahabad. This is all about my experience as a fresher at MNNIT- 

As the first year is the same for all branches, everyone is mixed and divided into groups- A1, A2, B1, B2, and so on. The year begins with an orientation program where the professors and HODs talk about college rules and students’ responsibilities. Classes begin 2-3 days after the orientation program. 

MNNIT is very strict about ragging. For the first month (basically before the freshers’ party ‘Swagat’), strict discipline is maintained. Freshers move to the classes in a line, accompanied by security guards, and they can’t leave the hostels even for the library. After Swagat, the hostel in time for fresher boys is 8:30 pm. 

The faculty consists of both good and bad teachers. But basically, you’ll be on your own. The teachers take attendance, teach, and leave. There’s a lack of healthy classroom interactions between the faculty and students. This is why students begin to bunk classes after a while.

The freshers’ ‘Swagat’ is the first event that one experiences at MNNIT Allahabad as a fresher. Sometime before this event, seniors visit the fresher hostel, and induct freshers in various clubs and committees. After this, the practices for Swagat begin with a lot of enthusiasm. Freshers’ is a great chance to develop friendship with the seniors.

Aviskar( tech fest) and Culrav( cultural fest) are the two main fests of MNNIT. The college Athletics team is quite good. 

My first year was well spent at MNNIT. The college is good, but needs infrastructural improvements.

Here are some pros and cons of joining MNNIT Allahabad-

Pros

1. MNNIT has a good industry reputation for its CS branch. This brings in cool start-ups and MNCs for placements. 
2. The coding culture at MNNIT is great. The campus is filled with highly competitive and creative students.
3. While 75% is the minimum required attendance, most of the professors don’t give much importance to it. But some are strict about attendance, and you’ll have to attend their classes regularly.
4. The tech fests are good. By participating in them, you can learn management and tech skills, both.
5. The seniors are really helpful.
6. You can participate in various college clubs like the Lit Club, Quiz Club, etc.
7. The freshers’ hostel is good and spacious, but the 2nd, 3rd and final year hostels are in a poor state. But after a while, you’ll make such good friends that it will all become manageable. Moreover, the campus has good food options open at all hours.

Cons

1. Many professors, especially in the CS department, aren’t competent enough. But self effort will get you through.
2. The management needs to improve sports facilities.
3. The events and fests are a bit disappointing due to lack of proper funding from the administration.
4. Allahabad is not a metro city with multiple entertainment facilities. But on the bright side, the living cost is much less compared to Mumbai or Delhi.

This college is my alma mater, and it has given me a lot. Despite all the shortcomings, MNNIT Allahabad has helped me land a good job and given me some amazing friends. 

MNNIT Allahabad has a plethora of social, technical and cultural clubs/societies. All of them are equally good at what they do, and each specializes in its own field.

These clubs/societies are-

1. The Dance Clubs- Inaugural (Kathak), Western Dance Club, Garba Dance Club, Marathi Dance Club, Bengali Dance Club, Bhangra Club and Puppet Dance Club.
2. The Arts Society- The most hardworking society of MNNIT.
3. Footprints Club
4. Media House of MNNIT (MHM)- They cover each and every college event.
5. The Music Club
6. NCC
7. The Green Club- MNNIT is the only NIT with an official Green Club. This club is the most unique, and it conducts the most value-laden events. In a way, it is the best club currently active in our college. The Honourable Former President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind inaugurated this club .
8. The Literary Club
9. The Robotics Club
10. Alchemy (The Dramatics Society)
11. SAE (Society of Automobile Engineers)
12. Gnosis (Quiz club)
13. E-Cell, MNNIT (Entrepreneurship cell)

These are all the major clubs and societies at MNNIT Allahabad that I could think of. The most important fests of MNNIT are- ‘SWAGAT’ ( the Freshers’ ), ‘AVISHKAR’ ( the Annual Techno-management Fest), and ‘CULRAV’ (the Annual Cultural Fest).

The reason for joining is that you’ll learn something new, and form good connections with your seniors and peers. These clubs and societies are the best way to socialize and polish your skills. They enhance your management skills as well.
