Should I pursue IT in NIT Surathkal or CSE in SVNIT Surat?

AA

Both NITK and SVNIT are tier-1 NITs and are excellent choices for engineering. Moreover both the branches are one of the most coveted branches so the choice of colleges is rather difficult here.

Go for CSE at SVNIT, if you are interested in CSE only. Usually CSE faculty is better than IT faculty. But if the tag of the college matters more then go for IT at NIT Surathkal as it has a better reputation than SVNIT in terms of job placement, alumni network, infrastructure, academics, start-up culture, etc. Here are a few additional reasons why you should choose NIT Surathkal

  • The IT curriculum in NIT Surathkal is better than that of CSE in SVNIT on all parameters.
  • The lab infrastructure and facilities are much better in NIT Surathkal. The curriculum is up to date.
  • NIT Surathkal focuses on project-based learning. Every course has a practical aspect.
  • Placement statistics of the IT dept in NIT Surathkal are also way better.

Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on your own preferences. However, I can say with certainty that choosing either colleges and branches will give you amazing results choices because CSE & IT are the most in-demand branches, combined with the tier-1 college tag.

Is joining mechanical engineering in IIT BHU or CSE in NIT Surathkal or CSE in DTU better?

Following the sheep mentality, many claim that it’s the branch that shapes your career and not your institute. Well, don’t let such people mislead you into believing your career is all set if you take CSE irrespective of the institute you belong to.

CSE branch is a major crowd-puller but trust me any branch taken up at IITs is better than other technical institutes. The branch is temporary but the tag you will be getting is permanent and will stay with you forever. Moreover, as for the placement opportunities that are better for CS, you can always opt for noncore placements and acquire coding skills.

The campus life and exposure provided by IITs is like no other so if you choose a technical institute other than IIT, you will be missing out on a good college life. Also, the culture of most IITs is driven towards coding so many IIT companies offer placements to students other than the CS branch based on your skills.

Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes

IIT BHU placements

Which is better: IT at NITK or CSE at NITC?

KS
Khushi Sharma Posted On : August 21st, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

NIT Surathkal IT is far superior to NIT Calicut. It is well-known in India for its CSE/IT branches. It is a highly regarded engineering college in India, and after four years of B.Tech college, the specific branch does not matter.

NITK outperforms Calicut in terms of reputation and placements. Furthermore, because of the higher cutoffs, the quality of students may be slightly higher here.

IT at NITK is nearly equivalent to CSE here. During placements, nearly all companies open to CS are open for IT as well.

Categories IT at NITK CSE at NITC
Course fee 5.40 lakhs 5.42 lakhs
Placement rate 92% 85%
Average salary package 8 LPA 8.1 LPA
Highest salary package 35 LPA 36 LPA

The subjects taught and the syllabus in both departments are also similar. In fact, the IT department may be slightly better than the CS department in terms of facilities and infrastructure, as it is newer. Previously, the quality of students in CS was higher than in IT, but with significant increases in IT cutoffs, both are now equally good.

I have a choice between IT (Information Technology) in NIT, Surathkal and CS (computer science) in RVCE, Bangalore. Which one would be a better choice in terms of placements, Brand name etc.?

IIT BHU (2019)

Between the options, you should choose NIT Surathkal IT. Here are the reasons why.

  • The syllabus difference between IT and CSE is not so much in this institute.
  • The placement process in the institute is exceptional, specifically for the circuit branches, including IT, CSE, ECE, and EEE. However, in the last year, students are recruited by Google and Microsoft.
  • NITK has its own brand name. Maybe it is an NIT, but the students here get a lot of exposure. JEE Mains toppers mainly take admission in this institute every year.

Here is a full overview of NIT Surathkal

You will have to stay here in the hostel, which provides a good experience for them. During the tenure of the course, you will learn how to take care of yourself. Also, if your hometown is Bangalore, then you can frequently visit home.

How tough is getting 8+ CGPA in NIT surathkal?

MS
Meghna Singh Posted On : September 15th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

The level of difficulty of scoring an 8+ CGPA in NIT Surathkal depends on the department you belong to and the kind of professors in that particular department.

  • In departments like IT, most professors prefer rote learning so the marks are allotted rather easily in comparison to other branches. In IT, an 8+ CGPA would probably be in the top 40 - 50% of the class.
  • Some departments such as Mechanical require genuine efforts to study and here an 8+ CGPA is among the top 50 - 60% of the batch or more.
  • Some very challenging branches like Electrical rarely give marks despite studying hard. Here, an 8+ CGPA is among the top 10 - 15% of the class.

Hope this helps you!

How is NIT Surathkal and Warangal placements for Civil Engineering?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : September 15th, 2023

Civil is about learning and getting skills rather than getting placed with good packages. India is in desperate need of qualified civil engineers. Not every Civil Engineering graduate is skilled enough and yet is employed as an engineer leading to failure of structure and accidents. So your primary goal is to be knowledgeable and skilled rather than running after placements. There is also a huge scope of research outside India. Here are the placement statistics of the Civil Engineering branch of NIT Surathkal

Placement Percentage

74.44%

Median CTC

INR 12 LPA

Ultimately, bear in mind that you won’t be earning much initially as a civil engineer but with the passage of time you will earn a lot in terms of money and respect both.
