What are the eligibility criteria to pursue a master's in statistics at ISI, Kolkata?
The eligibility for pursuing a master’s in Statistics at ISI Kolkata is graduation in a relevant field from a recognized university. You need to have scored at least 55% or the equivalent CGPA in graduation to be eligible for admission. The final admission is based on the entrance examination performance and interview.
Will I be eligible to appear for ISI Delhi MSQE/ ISI Kolkata M.Stats entrance exam despite having scored 58.9% (6.2 CGPA) in 10th standard?

Despite the economic slowdown, the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) program offered jointly by IIM Calcutta, ISI Kolkata, and IT Kharagpur witnessed a growth in the average and median remuneration of students from the previous year. The average remuneration and median remuneration grew by 12.75% and 14%, respectively, with an average salary of INR 29.71 LPA achieved and the highest offer of INR 42.50 Lacs. Additionally, 77.41% of the class received full-time job offers (PPO).
The PGDBA program is a rigorous academic program that spans three semesters, with each semester being held at one of the three premier institutes. During the coursework at ISI Kolkata, students develop expertise in statistical learning theories for analytics, while at IT Kharagpur, they apply these theories to Machine learning and Artificial intelligence. At IIM Calcutta, candidates learn how to utilize these tools in functional areas of management.
I am currently enrolled in B.Tech at an NIT is it okay for me to do the ISI Kolkata B.Stat program? Consider the fact that I dropped one year after year 12 for NIT.

ISI, B.Stat is a very famous course and is known for the entrance paper which is considered very tough by all those appearing in it. The course is tough because the student who is above the cutoff receives a huge financial help from the government covering the major portion of the tuition fee. Apart from this after the entrance exam the candidate can be certain of a well paid job one he/she completes the course and is awarded with the degree.
It gets difficult for the selections if there’s a year gap as lower age students are preferred and in your case there's a two year gap so the chances reduce even more. It would be very risky to change your college again and could cost some harm in your career.
Which M.Tech program at ISI Kolkata is better, CS, QROR or Cryptology?
After doing some research online, I would say that all the courses at ISI Kolkata are amazing if you know which field you have to choose. Everything depends on your choice of the field as every field is distinct from one another.
Now, I would mention that for M.Tech CS & QROR, these are already well-established Programs and need no introduction.
QROR:
- It’s a course based on subjects in applied statistics and business analytics.
- If you want to be in Business Analytics, it’s better than CS & Crypto.
CS:
- It has theoretical CS as well as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Courses.
- This will give you ample opportunity to do a Ph.D. as well as jobs in Data science positions.
- If you like coding and discrete mathematics etc then this is a zone to play in.
Crypto:
- ISI has India’s best Crypto people.
- And this is the first year of M.Tech Crypto so there is not much data available.
- But if you are not good in Abstract algebra Number theory then say not to this course.
- Research opportunities after M.Tech Crypto will definitely be better than that of QROR or CS.

Being a computer science engineer, how can I apply for a post graduate course in ISI KOLKATA?
You can apply to get into ISI Kolkata in two ways each year. Usually, right after the GATE exam, they post an advertisement in the paper for admissions.
After this, you can do the following:
- First, take the written test provided by the college for admission and if you crack it, you will qualify for the interview process.
- Secondly, if you have given GATE, you will be called directly for the interview if you have scored well.
But, make sure that you do well in the interview. This is the final qualifier for obtaining admission.
Is ragging prevalent in ISI Kolkata and Bangalore? If yes, then to what extent? Which year is it done in?
One of my cousins is a recent alumnus of ISI Kolkata and mentions that there have never been any complaints regarding ragging.
Most essentially, there is a legitimate reason behind these institutions being different from many others. That being said, ISI, CMI, IISC, IMSC, TIFR, and HRI are mostly different from every institute because they are primarily research-oriented. The list also incorporates IIT, NIT, BITS, IISER, NISER. These institutions are completely free of the Students Unions Ragging, students clubs, and more.
How was your life at ISI Kolkata?
Life at ISI Kolkata revolves around academics. The campus has a close-knit student community. Since it is a research institute, social activities and happenings are almost non-existent. However, there are some clubs and societies. The campus also has good sports facilities.
If you like spending your days emerged in research activities, you will like being on the ISI Kolkata campus.
What are the career prospects after doing M.tech in Quality Reliability and Operations Research from ISI Kolkata?
The career prospect of doing M.Tech in Quality Reliability and Operations Research from ISI Kolkata can be divided into two parts, i.e. jobs and placements. You don’t need to worry about job prospects, you will get placement offers as a Business analyst or Data scientist with a similar CTC of top b-school graduates. According to the 2021 ISI Kolkata placement highlight, the average CTC offered was INR 19 LPA.
Doing Ph.D. or higher studies can be difficult, especially if you are planning on going overseas. It’s better if you choose the Industrial Engineering domain. It will aline with QROR. If you are interested in Data Science or Machine Learning domain, you can consider doing some projects. ISI offers ample opportunities for such projects.
