Which is India's top university, Delhi University or JNU?

GS
Gaurav Singh Posted On : November 5th, 2022
Undergrad student is at University

There is a stark difference between both universities in terms of culture as well as fees. JNU or Jawaharlal Nehru University is mostly about expression, literature, culture, research, and building intellectual facilities whereas DU is all about glamor, fashion, fests, high cutoffs, and placements.

In financial terms, JNU is much more affordable than DU. Be it course fees or hostel fees, JNU cuts down on expenses a lot.

JNU is learning for life, whereas DU focuses on learning the bare essentials and getting placed in a reputed firm.

One more significant difference to consider is that JNU is more about post-graduation whereas DU focuses more on graduation. The difference in intellectual level stems from the same reason.

If you are still confused between the two, spend equal time on both campuses and you will get the answer soon.

JNU or DU which is a better university?

PB
Pratik Bahera Posted On : May 16th, 2022
Master's program from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2021)

JNU is a better option, especially for postgraduate degrees. JNU has a different aura altogether. The environment on campus is extremely accepting. You will meet people on campus who are intellectuals, readers, writers, and speakers. Simply being on JNU campus can be rewarding. It has a different culture entirely which motivates the holistic development of personality. JNU has an excellent faculty base.

In financial terms as well JNU is a better option. The course fees and hostel fees are lower compared to DU. As per JNU University course fees, an MSc degree costs around INR 692.

Which is better BHU or DU?

AS
Anumita Sinha Posted On : May 13th, 2022
Economics from Banaras Hindu University (2018)

To say, one of these is better than the other will be an oversimplification. You should choose BHU or DU based on the course you are interested in. Here is a streamwise comparison of DU and BHU.

Arts - For English and Economics, DU is better. BHU courses are better for Sanskrit, Hindi, Geography, and Philosophy. For the rest of these subjects, these institutes are at a similar level.

Science - BHU is slightly ahead for most of the science stream.

Commerce - For commerce courses, DU is definitely better.

Engineering - It won’t be fair to compare IIT BHU with DU. The former is way ahead of the latter.

Management - FMS is a tier 1 B-School and arguably the best non-IIM school in the country. IMS BHU ranks nowhere near FMS.

Law - For law degrees, DU has a slight advantage because of its location.

Medical - IMS BHU is one of the best medical institutes in the country.

Academics are more or less the same at BHU and DU. However, big names like St. Stephens, SRCC, LSR, etc. are a little ahead of BHU in terms of teaching quality. BHU offers better research facilities, especially for science courses. DU is way ahead of BHU in terms of corporate jobs and civil services.

BHU offers a better campus experience compared to DU. But if we talk about location, choosing a metropolitan city, Delhi will be more advantageous. You will have greater exposure and opportunities

The video comprises a comparative analysis of both universities

If you are getting into one of the top colleges at DU. You should go for it. If you are getting an average college, it’s still better to prefer DU for Commerce, Economics and English. BHU science faculty is good. If you are interested in a Science degree, you can choose BHU.

Which is better, NSIT or DTU?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 7th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My friend had to choose between DTU CSE and NSIT CSE and eventually went for DTU CSE after considering the below points

  • Brand name: DTU enjoys better recognition both inside and outside Delhi because of its rich legacy while NSIT is hardly known outside Delhi.
  • Alumni Network: Being one of the oldest technical institutes it has an extensive alumni network whereas NSIT was established much later and its alumni pool is small.
  • Placements: Both NSIT and DTU give an edge to each other in terms of placements and their average package is quite similar. DTU average package stands at INR 15.16 LPA while NSIT median package stands at INR 16 LPA. However, DTU has a larger batch size so maintaining this average package in itself proves that it's better.
  • Location: NSIT enjoys a better location and has easy access to shopping centers and eateries. It also attracts a better crowd than DTU.
  • Campus: DTU has a better maintained and facilitated campus than NSUT. NSIT has a lot of unused land which has become a breeding ground for wild animals.
  • Sports Facility: DTU is a clear winner here with its huge sports complex and indoor Badminton courts.
  • Research culture: Both colleges have poor research culture so if you are a research enthusiast, choose IIIT Delhi instead.

The ultimate decision depends on personal factors like distance from home and other inclinations.

Which is better, IIM Lucknow or SJMSOM (IIT B)? I am from an ECE background with 3 years of IT experience.

TM
Taara Malhotra Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

SJMSOM at IIT B was founded in 1995, making it a relatively newer institution. But for a couple of years now, it has been making headlines because of some really outstanding profiles that were provided. Its core competencies are operations and supply chain management. There is no doubt that IIT B is the best choice if you want to work as a product manager. IIT B also has a beautiful campus with excellent facilities.

Additionally, it would give you the opportunity to take part in MOOD-I, the most significant cultural festival in all of Asia, which is held at IIT Bombay. With the well-known tech fests, there is another opportunity for you to participate. Furthermore, there are benefits to living in Mumbai. For guest lectures, the majority of the industry experts live nearby and are easily reachable.

IIM Lucknow was founded in 1984, so it has 11 batches more alumni than IIT B, resulting in approximately 3300 more alumni (considering 300 students per batch on average). It is also the fourth oldest IIM, following A, B, and C. You will gain a lot more industry experience, which will assist you in deciding what you truly want to do. In addition, IIM L offers better opportunities in Sales & Marketing, Consultancy, and BFSI than SJMSOM. Furthermore, you will be networking with a large number of students from all over the country and forming lifelong friendships. Furthermore, the IIM tag for a managerial position has an advantage over the IIT tag, which is still developing.

It would be fine if you went to IIM L, SJMSOM, or any other B school a few years later. When you switch from the first company you get after your placements, the new recruiters will be more interested in your work than in the college you attended. And the impact of your college's name gradually fades. What remains are the lessons you've learned and the memories you've made over the last two years.

How does ISB, Hyderabad compare to IIM Ahmedabad?

AR
Anirban Roy Posted On : March 8th, 2022
MBA Strategy & Operations Management, Indian School of Business (2016)

ISB Hyderabad and IIM Ahmedabad are among the most reputed B-Schools in India. Contrary to the popular belief that IIMs are the best option, ISB is better than most new IIMs. Here is a brief comparison of the institutes.

IIM Ahmedabad-

  • Flagship program for IIMA is Post Graduate Program in Management. The course fee is INR 23 lakhs.
  • The faculties of the institute are alumni of reputed universities across the globe. You will get help from the faculty regarding any doubts even outside the classroom.
  • The college campus is well equipped with modern instruments to provide quality education. The classrooms are fully air-conditioned. The library stays open 24*7 for students and faculty.
  • During the 2021 placement, the average CTC offered was 26.13 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 1.32 Cr PA.

ISB Hyderabad-

  • The flagship program for ISB Hydrabad is Post Graduate Program in Management (12 months). The total course fee is INR 36.3 lakhs.
  • ISB Hyderabad has a great pool of well-experienced faculty.
  • In the 2022 placement drive, the average CTC offered was INR 25 LPA while the highest was INR 42 LPA.

In terms of ROI, IIM A shows better results compared to ISB Hyderabad. The required fee is also less for IIMA. Unlike ISB, you won’t need mandatory work experience to join IIMA.

Which one is better: VIT or MIT Manipal?

SM
Sejal Mishra Posted On : April 25th, 2022
B.Tech from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2020)

Comparably MIT Manipal is better.

  • The admission procedure at MIT is transparent. They declare the cutoff for each branch after each round of counseling.
  • MIT has a smaller batch size. The total number of seats for UG is 2040. Each branch has a proportionate number of seats.
  • MIT Manipal placements are better. As per the recent placement highlights, the average CTC and highest CTC offered to the students were INR 7.50 LPA and INR 43 LPA. Around 50 Fortune 500 companies visited the campus placement.

Although MIT charges a higher course fee, the return on investment is better.

Adinath Jain Posted On : March 21st, 2023
Studied at IIIT Hyderabad

You can go ahead with the following order to know which among IIT CSE, IIIT Hyderabad CSE, and NIT CSE are better:

  • IIT B
  • IIT D
  • IIT M
  • IIT K
  • IIT KGP
  • IIT R CSE
  • BITS Pilani - Pilani Campus CSE
  • IIT H
  • IIT G
  • IIT BHU CSE
  • IIIT Hyderabad CSE
  • BITS Pilani - Goa, Hyderabad Campus CSE
  • NIT CSE

However, it's important to note that IIIT H has the best Computer Science Department and one of the best coding environments in the country. If you're genuinely interested in coding and related stuff, you should definitely consider IIIT H without any second thoughts.

The above-formulated list is based on brand name, alumni network, campus life, academic workload, and more importantly, the priority order that many students actually follow. When you've worked so hard for two years, you will always have that inner voice driving you toward choosing IITs. After all, everyone wants to enjoy the perks of being an IITian.

So, follow your interests and make a decision that you won't regret. Keep in mind that all of these options are amazing and you have a great opportunity ahead of you.

Which is better: the IIMA or the FMS?

SM
Sakshi Mathur Posted On : December 28th, 2022
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2017)

Rather than asking which is better IIMA or FMS you should be asking what is better for you.

My friend is an IIM Ahmedabad pass out. She had got offers from IIM Calcutta, Lucknow, and FMS as well. Yet she chose IIMA because it was her dream college. One year into IIMA she realized some major shortcomings.

  • The case pedagogy here is overhyped and not at par with global B Schools.
  • The professors don’t teach you much, but rather keep you busy through assignments and quizzes.
  • No practical learning of concepts as the curriculum was very obsolete in today’s world of business.

The only significant feature here is its excellent placement. This is also the reason why it attracts so much crowd. But this fantasy is also short-lived. As soon as you land a job, you have to start paying back the excessive loan for years. For instance, you land a package with CTC 20 LPA. The in-hand salary would be around 1 lakh and the EMI standing at the end of every month would be 50000. After reducing EMI and personal expenses you get little for yourself for several years despite your hard work. Despite graduating you will be stuck in the same life for years.

Now considering FMS it has the following merits that make it a tad bit better than IIM Ahmedabad

  • Very low fees in comparison to IIM Ahmedabad
  • Since you don’t have to take a loan you feel a sense of freedom to take up the course of your choice.

Your batchmates from FMS will be enjoying life, and fulfilling their dreams and you will be still stuck in the same circle of paying back loans. So the brand value is just not enough. I don’t think spending 20 lakhs on any Indian B School is worth it.
