Yes, there is a proper dress code followed at Karunya University. It is as follows:
- Men: You must be neatly dressed in formal and clean-shaven with a decent haircut at all times when on campus. Earrings and ear studs are not permitted. Formal trousers, shirts (tucked in), and shoes whenever they are on the University campus.
- Girls: Wear either salwar kameez or churidar with dupatta pinned at the shoulders or sarees.
However, during functions at the university or any special occasions, you should wear University uniforms (blue blazers and ties). T-shirts or jeans of any type including cargo and low waist trousers are not permitted.
You must wear lab uniforms on lab days which will be mostly 3 days a week. ID cards are compulsory to carry with or wear.

College life at Karunya University is the same for both boys and girls. You will have to follow the dress code, attendance, and morning prayers.
When it comes to hostels, girls and boys have different rules. Overall rules for girls are more strict. Girls have curfews around 6-6:30. Boys can stay outside for longer. You will also be under CCTV surveillance on campus.
Overall, if you choose your friends wisely, you can have a good time during your stay at the institute.
Which is the best university, Sathyabama or Karunya?
I completed my B.Tech from Karunya University, but I can tell you a bit about Sathyabama as well.
Sathyabama offers decent academics, good quality mess food, and good placements. But it is located very far away from the main city (Chennai). Moreover, its infrastructure is not up to the mark. Its biggest disadvantage is that students of the opposite gender are penalized for even interacting with each other. Boys and girls are separated right from the counseling process.
Karunya University is located in a beautiful and serene landscape, and surrounded by mountains on all sides. It has good infrastructure and quality education. Its placements are average. Its hostels are good, and the mess food is good as well. It has strict rules only for first years. It has a diverse student population, with students from other Indian states and countries as well. Hostel is mandatory for B.Techs, but not for some degrees.
It charges high fees, and some of its departments have poor placements. The rules are very strict about clean shaving. The faculty takes out personal grudges on students’ internal grades. Most of the hostels are located far away from the campus.
According to me, Anna University affiliated colleges are much more affordable for B.Tech studies. So you may consider them instead of these two universities.
What are the best things for Karunya University students to do on weekends?
There are many activities that you can do during the weekends at Karunya University.
- You can go to Siruvani falls and spend some time there. Specialties about Siruvani Waterfalls are the sunset and the Shiva Lingam.
- You can make a group and go to Poondi and have a great trekking experience.
- If you want to study and learn things there is unlimited wifi on campus. There is also a library with a good collection of books in the institute. You can issue whichever book you need.
- There is a huge ground and a gym too if you are interested in sports or fitness.
Other than that students usually complete their assignments, wash clothes, binge-watch favorite series, and spend time with their friends, during weekends.
Is it worth studying for an MBA in Karunya University, Coimbatore? How is the placement?
I have a few friends who graduated from Karunya University and according to them, it is a decent university for pursuing your MBA. The academics and teaching methodology employed at the institute is great.
However, the placement record of the university is not that great. The companies that come to campus placement for MBA are very few in number. But if you have the required skills you can get off-campus placement. According to the recent placement highlights the highest CTC offered at the institute is 25 LPA.

The Management of Karunya University changes the dress code for girls frequently. It depends on their mood. Some days kurti and leggings are allowed while some days they are scolded for wearing tight leggings. They won’t even let you sit for class with such clothes.

- The local people are very good and some seem to be very caring especially.
- Karunya has amazing laboratories especially mechanical and food processing.
- Karunya has very few cases of campus ragging.

- The management has poor organizational skills
- The faculty is a bit dedicated and passionate about teaching.
- The academic environment does not encourage innovation and only theoretical knowledge is given importance.
I feel Karunya needs some changes and suggestions that would push the university to a better position.
What are the things that a fresher should know before joining B.Tech in Karunya University?
My cousin is currently in the second year of his course at Karunya University. This answer is based on his experience as a fresher at the university.
- The first three months after you join a course at Karunya University would be extremely dreadful. The weather would be extremely pleasant for a few months but this would change after some time and the weather conditions would become harsh.
- The administration, SRA, and faculty members would behave strictly with the students for the first 3-4 months. I would advise you to obey them or else you can get in trouble.
- A few marks are allocated to the students based on attendance for the lectures. So, attend classes regularly.
- Before the commencement of the classes, assemblies are conducted by the university in the auditorium regularly.
- Ensure that you respect your professors as they can very easily cause a lot of damage to your career.Use of smartphones during lectures is prohibited especially in the presence of faculty members of the university.
- The university tries to bring light to Christian ideologies and give importance to the Christian faith but it would not feel forcefully executed.
