What was your IIM Calcutta interview experience like?

RD
Ritu Das Posted On : December 12th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2022)

IIM Calcutta is undoubtedly one of the most difficult colleges to gain admission to among the Holy Trinity of IIM ABC (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta). As a matter of fact, it's no surprise that passing the PI at IIM C is a difficult task.

The first step in the hiring process at IIM C is a Written Ability Test, followed by personal interviews. It lasts approximately 20 minutes. The word count is limited to 200. WAT has three Panellists.

The personal interview lasts 20-30 minutes, with 2-3 interviewers seated to take your questions. They inquire about you, your visions, and your stance on specific issues. They want to know about your abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as your points of view. Students are questioned on the most recent debatable and controversial topics or issues in order to assess their understanding of current events.

In such a situation, you should put on your best smile and keep your cool. It is critical to remain calm and composed in order to respond to the best of one's abilities.

What is life like at DU?

KJ
Karuna Jaiswal Posted On : October 4th, 2022
Studied Economics at University of Delhi (Graduated 2017)

Here is what a 2012 DU Hansraj College graduate has to say about life at DU.

As a 17 years old boy who had received high marks in 12th grade, his expectations were as high as they should have been. But, over time, he realized that DU is just like any other university in a sense that it gives you a name but not necessarily a job. So, he went through the typical Indian education system, i.e., focusing on grades rather than fundamentals.

So, after enrolling in DU's Physics Hons, he skipped classes and concentrated on concepts, but the results were still disappointing. He wasn't getting good grades or gaining a lot of knowledge. But after three years, he realized that success is impossible without in-depth knowledge. He got admitted to IIT Bombay after putting in a lot of effort, and that completely changed his life.

The DU experience is the most joyful, as he claims. He says he is a foodie who enjoys eating, studying, and traveling. Thus, below mentioned are a few places recommended by him:

  1. Amba Cinema- It is well-known for its whistling. He has visited the theater quite frequently and seen movies like Gabbar is Back, Baby, and many more.

  2. Chole Bhature of Rawalpindi

  3. The Kamla Nehru Ridge

  4. Miranda House

Life changes, and we should embrace it. The University of Delhi is not merely a dream university where students are keen to study, but it is an emotion. An intense sentiment is attached to the hearts of the students. Life here feels immensely simple yet happening. We meet different kinds of people in every phase of life that we spend here. It gives so many experiences, both beautiful and harsh, to learn, explore and understand the truth of life. Almost everyone is friendly, polite, helpful, thoughtful and cooperative. The primary draws at DU are the annual college fests. You get to have a wonderful experience and enjoy extraordinary performances by popular celebrities that you would never have seen in your entire life.

Arka Datta Posted On : March 13th, 2023

The following answer is based on a day in the life of an Engineering student at IIT Bombay’, an extract written by my friend to share her experience on the same.

  • You wake up at 9:15 to realize that breakfast will be over in 15 minutes so you rush to the washroom and get ready for breakfast.
  • Once you reach the mess, you get to eat the very decent breakfast offered till 10 am. Once you are done with breakfast, you go to the lab.
  • At around 10:15 you reach the lab and gossip with your friends for a few minutes.
  • After wasting an hour, you start working and by 12:15 you realize you need a coffee break.
  • By 1 pm you have had coffee with snacks and decide to skip lunch.
  • You keep working in the lab till 6: 30 and decide to return to the hostel.
  • You hail a Tum-Tum, which is a bus service within the campus of IIT Bombay.
  • You do leisure activities during the evening and then go to Gulmohar for dinner
  • At night you call up to check with your parents
  • After this, you chat with your friends or watch your favorite series.
  • After this, you fall asleep late at night to restart the same schedule the next day.

Life at IIT Bombay is not as hectic as people describe it to be and you get to spend a lot of time doing your favorite things and hanging out with friends.

Is VIT better than DTU?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

From what I have heard, VIT Vellore is a money-making machine that accepts donations and admits every kind of student irrespective of their academic profile. The rankings that claim VIT to be better than IITs are baseless and forged. Don’t fall into their trap and talk to the students directly. You will find most of them saying that the professors are underqualified, have no interest in teaching and the academic environment is deteriorating. VIT is just a private university like Amity that is attracting students through fake advertisements and donations.

I would recommend you go for a government institute like DTU instead that has a genuine brand value.

Should I go to IBS Hyderabad (ICFAI) for an MBA? Why or why not?

HS
Harshita Sinha Posted On : April 30th, 2022
MBA Marketing & Business Analytics, ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad

IBS Hyderabad isn’t a good option for MBA. The placement record of the institute isn’t good. You won’t get a good ROI. The course fee for an MBA at IBS Hyderabad is INR 16.02 lakhs. While the average CTC offered to the students according to IBS Hyderabad placement highlights for 2022 is INR 7.97 LPA.

The student intake is huge. Batch strength for MBA is 1300. So, students don’t get equal opportunities in terms of academics and placements.

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs): What are the facilities at an IIT hostel?

AG
Anamika Gupta Posted On : February 17th, 2022
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

Some of my friends are IIT Madras alumni. Here is their insight into the hostel facilities of the institute.

  • The hostels have 24 hours internet connection. Internet speed goes up to 100 Mbps. There’s a 1GB per day data usage cap.
  • There is an airconditioned tech room that stays open 24 hours a day. The tech rooms have power tools. You can use the tools to get simple carpentry stuff done.
  • You will have access to the Center of Innovation, a tech-conductive facility. Among other things, it has a 3D printing machine, a workstation for carrying out powerful stimulations. Most tech junkies on campus usually crowd over there.
  • Every hostel usually has a hostel room, a TV room, a computer room, and an indoor games room. All basic amenities are available in the hostels along with washing machines and portable water supply.
  • The hostel rooms can feel a bit constricted at times. But every hostel has a huge central ground.
  • Power cuts are quite rare. There are also utility support staffs to help you out even during night.
  • The HUL snack station stays open from evening to late at night every day. There are also many eateries near the campus.

A unique trait of the IIT Madras campus is its forested area. Although it is outside the boundaries of the hostel zone, you can wander off to this area when you need a Psychological high.
