IIT Guwahati is well known for its library in India. The main library is called Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library and holds a substantial collection of books and other resources. It is 7500 sq. meter wide building with 4 storeys. All the services are computerised and wifi is provided to members. It remains open for 24 hours during the semester exams to provide studying facilities to students.

Yes, IIT Guwahati has a guest house facility for visitors, faculty members and visitors. Well-furnished guest houses with all the basic needs are available inside the campus which can be availed by the visitors. Guest house rooms are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Some rooms are also allotted for double-sharing. 

There are two guest houses on the campus - Old GH and New GH. Visitors can stay by paying the daily rent. Students’s parents are also allowed to stay at guest houses when they visit the campus. 

IIT Guwahati guest houses provide comfortable lodging facilities with dining options. It is well maintained and guests are provided assistance and support throughout their stay.

Alcheringa or Alcher as it is commonly called is the annual cultural fest conducted by IIT Guwahati. It was started in 1996 and quickly became one of the biggest cultural events in Asia. It is a 4-day long event which has seen more than 80,000 crowd. 

Alcheringa has seen national and international artists and bands perform and entertain participants. It is open to other colleges of the northeast and over 400 colleges participate in different events every year. Rock-o-phonix - India’s biggest rock band competition, Houte Coutre, Raga High and Electric Heels are some of the top events that attract many participants. 

It is an awaited event that is highly looked forward to by IIT Guwahati students and the northeastern people. There are also campaigns like Udaan and North East Unveiled that are promoted every year. Over the years, Alcheringa has also attracted many sponsors like Swiggy, OnePlus, Ola, RED FM and more. Techniche, Advaya, Siesmech, Reflex and Udgam are other festivals at IIT Guwahati throughout the year covering various disciplines and student interests.

IIT Guwahati was founded in 1994 with educational programs starting in 1995. IIT Guwahati is the 6th IIT established by the Government of India in Guwahati, Assam. It has rapidly gained recognition for its academics and research contributions. 

The Assam Accord was signed in 1985 between the All Assam Students Union and the Government of India mentioning the setting up of an IIT. Currently, the institute has 11 departments, 7 interdisciplinary centres and 5 schools covering all major disciplines.
