New Delhi: The Department of Chemistry of NIT Rourkela organized a Science and Engineering Research Board-sponsored workshop titled "Modeling and Synthesis: Molecules to Macromolecules -2023" from September 25 to 29, 2023.

More than 150 students registered for the workshop, and the Chief Guest, Prof. Chandan Kumar Sahoo, Director-in-Charger, NIT Rourkela, inaugurated the event. In the inauguration ceremony, several dignitaries were present like Honorary Padma Shri Prof. E. D. Jemmis (IISc Bangalore), who later addressed the students. Prof. K. A total of 13 esteemed faculties from IITs, NITs and IISER, and other technical institutions of the country will deliver their thoughts in this 5-day hybrid mode workshop. Prof. Priyabrat Dash (HOD, Dept of Chemistry) is the Chairperson for hosting the workshop. Dr. Bimalendu Adhikari and Dr. Madhurima Jana are the coordinators of the workshop. Students from few regional colleges also visited the workshop for hands-on practice in modeling molecules and sophisticated instruments used.

The primary purpose behind organizing the workshop is to provide essential information and understanding to UG and PG students and to train young researchers and faculty members on the fundamentals of the techniques of modeling, including the use of Artificial Intelligence in modeling and synthesis of macro/bio/supramolecules and polymers of biological and material significance.

NIT Rourkela has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to enhance infrastructure on the institute's campus with an estimated cost of INR 165.81 crore.

Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NITR) and Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar) met the HEFA officials in Bengaluru and discussed the blueprints of sanctioned funds issued under window-1 HEFA.
