Despite being established in 2015 and being one of the newest additions to the prestigious IIM family, IIM Bodh Gaya is slowly emerging as a significant player in business education in India.
New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya is gradually transforming into a prominent B-School in India.
IIM Bodh Gaya is a relatively young institution, IIM Bodh Gaya has made significant strides in a short span of time. It was mentored by the premier IIM Calcutta for nearly two and a half years following its inception.
Earlier, the institute was lacking in several important issues such as having no full-time director, no senior administrative staff no permanent faculty alongside two hostels belonging to Magadh University, who refused to move despite the 118-acre land having been transferred to the institute.
As Vinita S. Sahay took charge the first batch of MBA students (2015-17) had already graduated. After that, there were a lot of changes being made like the old campus building has been renovated to house administrative departments and temporary classrooms (the permanent ones are still being built), a sprawling new academic building, a sports complex, students’ hostels, and faculty quarters.
The institute's commitment to academic excellence, industry-focused curriculum, world-class faculty, and state-of-the-art infrastructure has played a pivotal role in its rapid growth and development. We had a very, very tough time,” Sahay now recalls with a smile, revealing a sense of collective achievement.
Since the start the institute had less than 40 students per batch under its regular full-time MBA Program but now it has nearly 300 students for the 2023-25 session. Since the 2016-18 batch, IIM Bodh Gaya Placements has consistently achieved a 100% placement rate with an increasing number of job offers and substantial growth in package sizes.
During the span of four years, from the 2018-20 batch to the recently graduated 2021-23 batch, there has been a significant surge in the median remuneration, soaring from INR 9 LPA to INR 16 LPA.
Over 80 companies visited the institute for the recruitment of 2023 and the highest package has nearly tripled in 2023 to INR 48.58 LPA from INR 16.25 LPA three years ago. According to Sahay “People dream of such courtyards and the banyan tree (like the Bodhi Tree). We will also place statues of two icons—one of Chanakya and one of the Buddha—on either side of the main courtyard, symbolizing the concept of ‘from strategy to mindfulness’. After all, mindfulness is the heritage of this place,”
As IIM Bodh Gaya continues to grow and establish itself as one of a prominent B-schools, it is poised to make a significant impact on the business education landscape in India.
