ILS Law College, Pune, is celebrating its century. If it goes according to the plan of the institute’s representatives, the Law School is looking forward to become a private university in the upcoming year.

ILS Pune to Become a University in its 100th Year

New Delhi: After 100 years of existence as part of Pune University, ILS Pune is looking forward to become a private university in 2024. All these years the school has been dedicated to providing law courses aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.

The Indian Law Society Law College, Pune received a letter of intent and was reviewed by ILS Pune, it is expected that it will become a private university by June 2024. The reason is that after becoming a university ILS Pune gets academic freedom to design new courses and it will be beneficial to make national and international collaborations. “I think ILS Pune should become a university”, says ILS Faculty Director of Academics and Administration Vaijayanti Joshi.

Director of Academics and Administration, Vijayanti Joshi, says that there is a possibility of increasing fees in ILS Pune due to the absence of any financial support from the state. And even if the fee is hiked, students from weak financial backgrounds will be provided with support through schemes and programs.

When asked about teaching in vernacular language, The director responded by saying, “There are many students who understand the vernacular language but very few can write it, even if I tell them to write in Marathi most of the words will be in English. However, taking up vernacular does not mean that you should not learn English. A law student who knows Marathi, English, and Hindi very well than anyone who knows only Marathi.”

Another action, apart from the university status ILS Pune is aspiring for, is to launch a distance education center. After the pandemic, the world came close because of the technology. Alike foreign universities that provide courses and people across the world can access them, INS Pune is trying to do the same thing with law.
