What is PUBBS?

PUBBS is a prototype for a smart and hassle-free public bicycle sharing system that can be scaled for other institutes and industries. It helps students gain ease interacting with technologies of the future like cloud-computing and IoT, and also helps provide sustainable solutions for travel options with 0 carbon emissions and immense health benefits. The PUBBS app connects multiple operators across the campus and features an intuitive interaction design.

Some of the features of PUBBS include a manual lock based on GSM/GPRS/GPS, and a GPS Location tracking device; and  BLE Communication that enhances battery life and ensures efficient locking & unlocking with a robotic driver fitted into the hardware.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, IITKGP Director Prof. V K Tewari said, “PUBBS is the first ‘Make in India’ smart lock for bicycle or e-bike sharing system. Currently, we have manufactured our first batch of smart locks and we plan to deploy the system for the benefit of guests at the Technology Guest House. We will make the system available free of charge initially for a few weeks and then make it available at a minor charge which will be fixed…A separate project proposal will be prepared before deploying the system on a commercial basis.”
