Being an Assistant Professor at SIIT, how do you make subjects more practical and easy to understand for students?

For the purpose of bridging the gaps between academia and industry and making subjects more practical and corporate-oriented so that it becomes easy for students to understand, I regularly use real-world case-studies to demonstrate the practical relevance of computer science concepts. Apart from this, we have collaborated with corporate giants to ensure students get amazing internships and projects wherein they can use their classroom learning to figure out solutions of real-world issues, gain required exposure and be prepared to tackle challenges of the upcoming future.

How do you engage students of your CS Department in research projects?

In order to engage students of our Computer Science Department in research projects, I actively involve them in my ongoing research work by offering Research Assistant positions. In addition to this, we guide them as and when needed so that they can work on their unique research ideas.

Last but not the least, events such as workshops and seminars are regularly organized by us to educate students about the latest happenings of the outside world, and empower them to contribute to the field of computer science.

In your opinion, how can a student manage their time and balance workload on a daily basis?

I firmly believe that for college students, time management is very crucial. Hence to make best use of it, first and foremost they should prioritize their tasks, then make a schedule or to-do list, break large tasks into smaller and manageable chunks and finally they should eliminate all kinds of possible distractions, and make use of resources such as study groups or campus support services. And in between all this, it is equally important to take breaks and engage in self-care to avoid burnout.

How can college students improve their critical thinking skills?

In today's competitive world, developing strong critical thinking skills is very essential for students to ensure their academic success. And for this, they should actively engage themselves in activities that promote logical reasoning and analysis such as class discussions and debates, question assumptions and seek evidence to support arguments, read and analyze diverse sources of information, practice problem-solving and decision-making. Additionally, seeking feedback from professors and peers can help students identify areas for improvement and help them refine their critical thinking skills.

How can a student make the most out of their college life and be prepared for an unpredictable career?

As we all know college time gives everyone abundant space and opportunities to gain much needed knowledge, skills, and experiences that will shape their future and career. Hence I firmly believe that in order to make the most out of his/her college's life, one should set clear goals by identifying their passions, interests, and career aspirations. In other words, choices should be a crystal clear reflection of what one wants to achieve academically and professionally during their college years.

In addition to this, one should make best and timely use of resources available on campus including career services, internships, research opportunities, and networking events. Because these events can help you gain practical experience and build connections in your field of interest.

Then, one can join college's clubs or student societies and get valuable leadership experience, learning windows and a chance to apply classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios through a diverse range of events and activities. Beyond all this, connecting with professors or professionals in one's desired field can be very helpful while dealing with unpredictable situations. Last but not the least, stay curious and open to learning beyond your coursework, attend workshops, seminars, career fairs, alumni gatherings and conferences to stay updated on industry trends and advancements. Embrace new technologies and develop skills that are in demand in your field.
