Mr. Shailendra Kumar Mishra is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at CDGI. After completing a B.E. and an M.Tech. degree in Computer Science & Engineering, he is now pursuing a PhD as well. Besides 18 years of experience in academia, he has four years of experience in research as well. Mr. Mishra has 23 papers published in international journals and 8 in national journals. Moreover, he has presented eight papers each at international and national conferences. Mr. Mishra also published three patents, five copyrights and reviewed five book chapters.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

We provide regular bachelor’s and master’s degree courses in Engineering/Applications in a wide range of relevant specialisations. Apart from the usual courses in the Computer Science & Engineering department, we have targeted GATE classes, certificate courses (CRT), regular aptitude, and soft skill training classes. We also encourage students to register for NPTEL online certificate courses.


What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?

Computer Science Engineering is a highly demanding program due to fast-changing technology.

In our college, students have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, develop new software applications, and contribute to solving complex problems in diverse fields. This versatility enables students to tailor their education to match their interests and career goals.


What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?

Apart from regular teaching in the classes, we also focus on enhancing the learning experience of our students through hands-on training. We do so by providing project-based learning, having mock interview sessions and placement preparation processes through different teaching add-ons. Our students also get to interact with industry experts and professionals through guest lectures and industry visits, where they get to see their classroom learning in practice.


What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.? 

Our department provides students with a well-rounded education where they get to develop their academic knowledge and participate in extracurricular activities and competitions as well. We promote continuous improvement and professional development before students go out to work in the industry. We have adopted a multidisciplinary approach and have highly experienced faculties to ensure that the learning provided is good.


How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

Students are not only prepared to excel in their current roles but also equipped with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to adapt to and thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and innovation. How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

In our department, we conduct professional development workshops, mentoring programs, collaborative learning, participation in conferences and workshops, and have a system for ongoing support and productive feedback. By implementing these strategies, the department can ensure that faculty members are well-equipped to deliver a high-quality CSE program that meets the needs of students and prepares them for success in the field of computer science and engineering.


How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program? 

Building an industry connection with a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program is crucial for providing students with practical experience, networking opportunities, and insights into current industry practices. Strategies that can be used to establish and strengthen industry connections are organising guest lectures and workshops regularly, encouraging students to take up industry projects and collaborations. We also focus on improving alumni engagement, which can help us achieve more than the above stated course goals.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

There are challenges to implementing and running an academic program. Some of the more common challenges that we face are having industry collaborations for our student’s internships and course updates. We also struggle with maintaining student engagement and retaining the students until graduation. The college is also working on having a standard assessment and evaluation system that is fair and leaves space for improvement. We are also working to achieve continuous improvement.


What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

Our students can work on any project that aligns with their future goals and career plans. They are free to choose any topic they wish to work on. Here are some types of projects that our students work on in the department: Software Development Projects, Machine Learning and Data Science Projects, Artificial Intelligence and IOT based Projects, Game Development Projects, and Interdisciplinary Projects. 


What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

Pursuing a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) course can lead to numerous benefits and diverse career options due to the high demand for skilled professionals in the technology sector.
