Dr. Sushant Singh is working as an Associate Professor in Amity Institute of Biotechnology at Amity University Chhattisgarh, Raipur since March 2021. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology from IIT Guwahati in June 2014. Before joining Amity University Chhattisgarh, he was working as a Research Associate at the University of Central Florida, USA. At Amity Institute, he is responsible for taking care of Research and Development activities within the Department. He is also a Life Member of the Biotech Research Society and Society for Biological Chemists. To his credit, he has 1 International and 1 National patent. He has published over 35 Research Articles in peer-reviewed International Journals and over 50 conference presentations/proceedings/invited talks. He has written 3 Book Chapters as well. He is an active reviewer of several journals in the Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Life Science Division.

What keeps you connected with the education sector?

“I like to interact with intellectual and curious minds”

I feel very happy whenever I meet curious people like scientists because whenever I meet them I get to learn something new and I have a topic to explore. So my enthusiastic and curious nature has helped me to stay connected with the education sector. Being a professor, I interact with students of different mindset, and hence there is something new to learn from them while I teach them. Coming to my experience with Amity, I will say my journey has been amazing because of the work culture, the respect I have received from here and the amazing minds I have interacted with.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To guide and support them in order to learn and grow”

Being the Associate Professor, I am responsible for providing the best quality education and guidance to my students and also helping them with research projects. I also make sure that they get every possible opportunity to get some new skills and enhance the existing ones. Lastly, I am also responsible for the smooth conduction of classes, ensuring the discipline of students and making my support available whenever they need me.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“Personality development training and fun activities are conducted”

Our college does organize different guiding programs for students so that they can choose their field very specifically. And to improve the communication skills and overall personality of our students, we assign them tasks like dancing, drama and vocal skill courses.

How does the curriculum of Amity University ensure the future preparedness of students?

“It is prepared by our amazing faculties after analysis at multiple levels”

The curriculum of our institute is drafted and updated after rigorous analysis of students' needs and market demands by our highly qualified and experienced research faculties. We conduct various programs like sports activities, project presentations, drama, etc. These activities help our students to keep them physically and mentally fit, and it's necessary actually to keep them focused on their studies. 

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

“By assigning them research projects and industry interactions through guest sessions”

Apart from providing them guest lectures by industry experts, we try to make the teaching very practical by using new methodologies and participating students in all activities. We use real-life case studies, journals and hands-on projects to enhance the subject knowledge of students and to make a particular subject more interesting to read.

Which approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“I ensure everyone’s participation while we discuss a topic”

To enforce a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects, We offer them various kinds of training programs. Other than this, We use a few techniques like new technology, groups discussion, extempore and demo live classes to give them real-life experiences of teaching. Lastly, seminars are also conducted where they participate and get to know about industry expectations from them.

What would you like people to know about your institute?

“We provide the best education through the latest programs and amazing teachers”

Our college does have faculties having strong educational status and experience. And as part of our curriculum, every year we include. Also, we have provided full flexibility to our students and teachers to put forward their ideas and suggestions that can enhance the working and position of our institute. Our students can choose subjects and courses of their interest, their issues are addressed on a time and individual basis. Because all we want is that students and everyone who is working for us should feel connected to us.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of Amity University?

“Our research faculties, students and staff keeps us strong”

The biggest strength of Amity is its research faculties, as they hailed from a very strong educational background and are also associated with multiple National and International universities. Hence this unity in diversity is what makes us strong and helps us in fulfilling our goals. Also, our students and staff are the crucial pillars of our institute.

What are some of the biggest challenges as far as the online mode of education is concerned?

“It is deteriorating students' ability to think and act”

There are multiple challenges as far as online education is concerned, and this is not something that small or medium institutes are facing, but issues are in front of everyone. The theoretical courses can be covered using the online mode of education, but problems arise when subjects that include hands-on training, practical and projects can’t fulfill the need through screen sharing.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Identify your own passion and work hard to achieve your goals”

I would like to suggest to my students that you put your 100% into whatever work you do. Don’t waste your time unnecessarily and keep upgrading yourself by acquiring new skills. Because what matters in today’s world is your dedication towards your work and how skilled you are in a particular job.
