What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Ability to play a part in building young people’s career and carve their future path”

The biggest factor that draws me to the education sector is the ability to bridge the gap between industry and academia in terms of the ever-changing technology and its upkeep with today’s youth. The reason to be connected with the education sector is to be able to quench my thirst and passion for continuous learning and technology upgrades.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Leadership is not about being the best, it is about making everyone else better”

My leadership style is democratic, decentralized, Team centric and Supportive. One needs to have some human emotion as an essential ingredient of good leadership. For example, if we have a problem, discuss it with the team, take into account everyone’s opinion, based on the analysis, observations and my past experiences suggest the best solution and thereafter coming to a consensus with all on it.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different backgrounds?

“Students from diverse backgrounds, cultures and economic strata are welcome at this university”

The university is referred to as a “melting pot” of diverse cultures as well as backgrounds. We have students at the university coming from multicultural backgrounds that are relating to several cultural or ethnic groups. The university offers them quality education on current economically viable options. We enable Government and Non-Government scholarships, Tuition fee waivers schemes, Scholarships for bright students and female students.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

Establish close proximity with industry through collaborations and provide holistic education”

The University’s top priority over the next 10 years is focussing on quality education, research and innovation-based teaching-learning so that a majority of them take up entrepreneurship and kick off start-up’s taking advantage of angel funds, so that majority become job providers rather than job seekers along with being virtuous citizens.

What has been your vision for the university?

“Evolve this institution into a hub of value-based education, research, creativity and innovation”

When I joined Galgotias University, my vision of the university was to establish it as a well-reputed institution that provides value-based education. I have contributed to the research and innovation quotient of the vision on several fronts through various policy initiatives.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?

“Being able to generate the aspiration and interest to learn is a challenge in higher education”

The biggest challenge is the outreach of higher education to a large portion of the population.

Also, to find innovative ways to impart education so that it keeps the students hooked to the courses. An innovative way of assessment is also needed in this sector.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

The ability to gain new knowledge is more valuable than the knowledge itself”

My suggestion to the current youth and the aspiring students would be that they should not completely be dependent on the institution for their quest for knowledge. Rather based on their area of interest and life-long sustainability, should try and learn from all the various technology-enabled sources. We must get ready for the very nature of work to change and also get ready for a lifetime of skills training and retraining.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your university?

“By providing autonomous opportunities and always having a learning attitude”

The best way to establish a healthy relationship and environment in any organisation is to bridge the gap with effective communication, respect, trust, value, empathy and friendliness towards others. Have personal touch through one-to-one interactions, appreciate as well as motivate people. One must always have a 360-degree approach to looking at individuals, situations and problems.
