Heritage Management, a rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field, has gained prominence with schemes like HRIDAY and Smart Cities, integrating heritage into tourism, employment, and economic growth. This evolution has heightened its appeal to the younger generation, fostering engagement with heritage, both creative and academic. The Master of Management Studies in Heritage Management Programme at Ahmedabad University offers theoretical models and practical tools, empowering professionals to manage change holistically and leveraging advancements in heritage and business management.

Offered by the Centre for Heritage Management, one of the seven centres at Ahmedabad University, the two-year programme is considered a pioneer in South Asia in terms of establishing the practice of heritage management. Master of Management in Heritage Management programme (MMS-HM) focuses on creating a foundation of heritage and sustainable development, while simultaneously integrating business entrepreneurship. It equips students with tools to address global challenges like economic crises, pandemics, and climate change. 

MMS-HThe M programme is aligned with the Competency Framework for Cultural Heritage Management adopted by UNESCO. The diverse teaching methodology includes lectures, seminars, group work, and field learning experiences, with the culmination of studies with a thesis. Moreover, students get the opportunity to study under outstanding faculty members whose areas of interest range from living heritage, sacred geography, and nature-culture linkages to archaeology and conservation science.

The Centre for Heritage Management is involved in regional initiatives such as serving as the Secretariat for the Asia-Pacific Higher Education Network for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (APHEN-ICH). It holds positions on executive boards of organisations like the Asian Academy of Heritage Management (AAHM) and APHEN-ICH, contributing to the advancement of heritage management education and practices in the Asia-Pacific region. It also hosts events such as the Annual Conference of Heritage Management, Education and Practice at Ahmedabad University. Recently, the Centre organised the 5th edition of the conference that took place from March 15 – 17, 2024, under the theme “Heritage Economics and Digital Technologies.” Academics, researchers, thinkers, practitioners, and learners convened to deliberate on innovative solutions for managing the diverse and rich heritage around us. The three-day-long conference, organised by the Centre for Heritage Management of Ahmedabad University which offers the Master of Management Studies in Heritage Management programme, focused on two key themes: heritage economics and digital technologies. Further, it explored their intersection with each other to articulate ways to work creatively and sustainably.
