Dr. R. Sabitha is the HOD - of the Department of Business Administration with CA and Logistics at Hindusthan Hindusthan College of Arts and Science. She did her Ph.D. from GRD College of Science, Bharathiar University. She has 22 years of experience in Teaching as a Professor and Head of the Department at Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore. She has published various papers in national and international journals. She has written a book titled“Human Resource Management: Text and Cases” by Aruna Publications Chennai. She has received various awards including the Super Coordinator Award from Kumudam Publications Pvt Ltd., the Vocational Service Award from the Rotary Club of Coimbatore, and the Best Women Faculty Award from the Natural Science Foundation.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

Leadership is to have a clear vision and an ability to inspire, and direct effort toward goals. 

What do you see as this college’s greatest strengths?

The college’s greatest strengths include student diversity, the college’s location, curriculum, state-of-art infrastructure, student-centric teaching methods, a Wi-Fi campus, and a green environment.

What are some of the biggest challenges for higher education in the current era?

Some of the biggest challenges for higher education in the current era include the reservation system for enrolments followed by HEIs, a diverse cultural system that serves as a hindrance for students' mobility to other states, and employment opportunities available on completion of UG programs creating less interest in higher education.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

I would like to suggest the youth focus on developing their skills, gain specialization in a particular field, become an expert and have honesty and integrity in them. 

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your College?

We tend to establish a healthy environment in our college by following well-laid norms and a code of conduct on the campus, a good infrastructure conducive to learning and self-development, teaching methodology focussing on both slow and fast learners. An effective counseling system to emotionally support students' grievances. Placement initiatives and opportunities for a clear career path.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of industry?

The systematic planning of the curriculum framework with outcome-based education. The curriculum is framed with professional views from subject experts and industry experts. Feedback from the various stakeholders for necessary updation in the courses offered, monitoring and evaluation of student academic performance through continuous assessment.

What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

The college’s top priority over the next 10 years should be to lay more focus on start-ups, global curriculum, immersions, and international industry collaborative initiatives, focus on placements Abroad, multiple language specializations, and blended learning programs. 

What made you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because of my passion for teaching, to instill a sense of strong moral values among students. To enhance professional standards and ethical practices among students, and to develop students’ capability to thereby contribute to society.

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing a course in your college?

The benefits of pursuing a course in this college include owning an enterprise, career prospects in the industry like a business consultant, managerial cadres, opportunities in insurance and banking, and opting for higher education.

What will you say are the best practices in the course you’re offering in your college?

The department focuses on honing the entrepreneurial skills of the students by organizing a unique program called the “ROYAL EXPO” where students are encouraged to exhibit stalls with their handmade products. Students also exhibit various products like cosmetics, organic products, garments, accessories, handmade toys, food stalls, etc., This program makes students understand the practical application of their academic courses learned.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

The Certifications from various bodies, skill enhancements on the job training programs, internships, projects, placement training, and preparations for competitive examinations enable students to gear up for the future. The program focused on organizing various activities contributing to the employability of students pursuing higher education in India and Abroad entrepreneurship.

How did you train faculty to deliver this program to the students in your college?

Faculty are given an orientation of the vision and mission of the department. Scheduling and planning the delivery of courses to students. Adapting various teaching methodologies. Preparation of course materials and uploading them in the department portal for student references. Monitoring and evaluation of student academic performance through continuous assessment. To enhance the quality of faculty members, they are continuously trained to focus on Faculty development programs, publication of books in various titles, encouragement to online courses using NPTEL platforms, and certification from international universities. 

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

My Vision was to be a good teacher, making students understand concepts of subjects thoroughly. I wanted the Department to focus on the development of students which we achieve by focussing on various activities.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

We offer various club activities, students organize marketing expos to exhibit their entrepreneurial and marketing skills, and special training is provided to enhance communication skills.

How did you train your faculty to deliver this program to the students in the best possible way?

To equip the faculty members to create and conduct various classroom activities and games. Feedback at regular intervals ensures updations in knowledge.
