Dr. Chandrasekhar, the Principal of Chalapathi Institute of Engineering and Technology, is a distinguished academician and able administrator with more than 25 years of experience. He has grown from the ranks right here at the institute, starting his teaching career as an Assistant Professor in 1998. He did his PhD at JNTU Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and obtained his graduate degree in 1997 from Vijayanagar Engineering College, Ballari. In his impressive teaching and administrative career, Dr. Chandrasekhar has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking. You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

The education sector is a service sector, which is more respectful in the community as it aids in producing good citizens. This is a place wherein there is a scope for job satisfaction, job security and self-satisfaction. Also, it cultivates good principles and a culture of values among the employees.


Being the Principal of Chalapathi Institute of Engineering & Technology, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Leadership is a quality that comes within and varies concerning all. My style of working lies in motivating the students in all aspects. I also believe in motivating all my employees to work for the organization to achieve common goals that glorify the name of the organization. This paves a solid path for the students to choose our organization in their education career.


Being the Principal of Chalapathi Institute of Engineering & Technology, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school/college?

Planning and executing the administration activities in our college are done through the hierarchy of the administrative office. We have created a help desk to solve the academic issues of the students within the time frame of the complaint. A proctorial committee is also formed in our institute to solve student and discipline issues. We conduct labs regularly, exposing them to the practical aspects of the discipline and we organize technical events regularly so that they aid in taking the college name to the community. It aids in generating interest among the students.


The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your university?

The way education is being imparted in India varies from institution to institution. In our organization, students come from rural backgrounds where their families are primarily farmers while some other students are from urban areas. We regularly counsel our students to figure out the issues they are facing both academically and personally and address them. We conduct meetings with their parents to maintain transparency. As and when necessary, we conduct technical events to tap the inner talents of our students and expose them to contemporary skills via both intra and inert college competitions. During the final year, we have project work published in international journals, which enhances our students’ career goals.


How does the curriculum of Chalapathi Institute Of Engineering & Technology ensure the best practice of industry?

The curriculum that we follow in our institution is as per the JNTUK, however, we regularly conduct industrial visits and construction site visits. We also encourage our students to get involved in internship activities to enhance their learning and learn practical skills. Our teachers also encourage the students to take up final-year projects in line with industries that are a valuable addition to our student’s resumes.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

We run the college mostly with fee reimbursements given by the state government. In addition, our institute encourages students with merit but who are from economically weaker backgrounds by waving off their college fees or giving them concessions in their fees.


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

Our institute believes in imparting value education, which motivates the students towards a focused career. We inculcate in them the values of social responsibility, being responsible, and maintaining good relations with parents.


What do you think should be the Institute top priority over the next 10 years?

We think the overall development of the organisation should cater for the needs of students and be in a position that automatically motivates the students to choose our institute as the destination for their study career. We wish for all of our students to be well-settled in reputed positions in the industry and pursue abroad studies.


When you first came to Chalapathi Institute Of Engineering & Technology, what was your vision for the university?

When I came to Chalapathi, I observed that this institute is bestowed with a well-defined vision and mission. Therefore, my vision is to take this institution to the next level so that it can continue catering to the needs of the students and their wellbeing.


What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

I would like to tell people that our institute caters to students of all levels. We work with them personally to make them capable of achieving their goals. At the same time, we make them aware that we value the time and needs of the parents.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Chalapathi Institute Of Engineering & Technology specifically?

The online education system has both pros and cons, which is what we struggle with. This is a common challenge and a burning issue faced by almost all institutions. It has become a necessity and must be dealt with for institutions to keep up with the industry. However, any new technology can substantiate but cannot be as efficient as the former.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Youth must concentrate on their careers and acquire good knowledge in both theoretical and practical aspects. Additionally, students need to aim at developing strong communication skills and being efficient with new contemporary ideas. These are valuable skills to have as employees at the workplace and to become entrepreneurs.


What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for Chalapathi Institute Of Engineering & Technology international affairs and/or students?

We have already roped in to sign MOUs with multi-national companies. These will help get our students exposed to industries and gain experience. We have also planned to organize technical events that would be helpful for our students to tap their inner talents.


How do you tend to establish a healthy relationships and environment in your institute/ university?

We are already maintaining good and healthy relations with all the staff members working in our institute. We normally provide medical support to our staff at our medical facility, financially support faculty members to attend conferences and help them pursue higher studies. We morally support all the staff working in our institute as and when necessary.
