BHU Launches Raja Jwala Prasad Post-Doctoral Fellowship

New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) introduced the Raja Jwala Prasad Postdoctoral Fellowship to encourage research on its campus.

As per BHU, the new program will allow faculty members who have successfully obtained sizable external funding for their research endeavours to collaborate with postdoctoral fellows who are young researchers.

The fellowship was launched as part of the union government's Institution of Eminence (IoE) strategy. It will be for one year, but it may be extended for an additional year depending on the outcomes and the amount of money available under loE.

The apprentice will get a monthly salary of INR 60,000, a yearly contingency payment of INR 50,000, and INR 10,000 housing rent allowance. They will also have access to a host of benefits like health care, a library, and other university resources.

The program also intends to promote multidisciplinary departmental collaboration and improve funding for ongoing research activities. The professors who will host the Raja Jwala Prasad Post-Doctoral Fellows will act as mentors for them while they are at the university, providing guidance and assistance.

The program recognizes Raja Jwala Prasad, a native of the Bijnor area of Uttar Pradesh and a former pro-vice chancellor (VC) of BHU.

Jwala, the UP's chief engineer, was responsible for designing the university's plan and helping to build the groundwork for the current campus.

The Fellowship will significantly expand research activities at the university by luring many young and promising postdoctoral researchers, according to BHU Faculty Vice Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain. Additionally, it will assist in preparing these young scholars for successful careers in academia and research.

Sanjay Kumar, coordinator of IoE at BHU, stated that "The BHU recognises the contributions of faculty members in bringing external funding for research activities." This strategy attempts to give these academics even greater support.
