Dr. Rajeev Sood has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot.
New Delhi: Dr. Rajeev Sood has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) in Faridkot, as announced by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The position of Vice Chancellor at BFUHS had been vacant since August of last year when Dr. Raj Bahadur resigned after an incident where he felt "humiliated" by Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra.
The former vice chancellor of BFUHS, Dr. Raj Bahadur made allegations that he was compelled to lie on an unsanitary mattress at a hospital by the state's health minister. According to the official BFUHS Notice, Rajeev Sood, who has served as the dean of the RML Hospital-Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Delhi for five and a half years, has been appointed as the new vice chancellor.
The appointment is effective for three years, starting from the date he assumes office. The selection of the new vice chancellor of BFUHS followed the submission of a list of five candidates by the Punjab government to the governor for consideration.
As stated in an official release, Sood brings extensive medical practice experience of 40 years, along with 26 years of teaching experience post MCh and 12 years as a professor. It was mentioned that Rajeev Sood has served as a Uro Consultant attached to the Parliament for a period of 10 years.
Additionally, he has worked as a Uro Consultant to the President of India for five years. Sood completed his graduation from Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi and obtained an MS (General Surgery) degree from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and PGIMER in Delhi.
Subsequently, he pursued an MCh (Urology) from AIIMS Delhi. Earlier, in July of the previous year, Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra faced criticism from various sources after an incident where he was seen forcing Dr. Bahadur to lie on a filthy mattress at a hospital.
Following Dr. Bahadur's resignation, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced the appointment of renowned cardiologist Dr. Gurpreet Singh Wander as the vice chancellor of BFUHS. However, the chancellor of the state's universities, Banwarilal Purohit, declined to approve Wander's appointment and requested the AAP government to provide a list of three names.
