National Institute of Design reserves some share of its seats for candidates belonging to OBC (NCL), SC/ST, and PwD categories. Moreover, 10% of its B.Des/GDPD and M.Des seats are reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in all the campuses taking admissions through NID DAT 2024. 

  • Candidates must mention their respective category in NID DAT 2024 Application Form to avail of the reservation benefit. 
  • A 15% supernumerary seats are reserved for Foreign nationals. They can avail of the reservation under the Overseas category.
  • NID DAT 2024 Admit Card mentions the category of the candidates along with the schedule and exam center.

The candidates seeking admission under the NID reservation are required to produce the required documents at the time of admission. Also, once a candidate has chosen a category at the time of the application form submission, he/she is not allowed to change it at any point in time. The category documents must also be produced in time as no provisional admission shall be granted to any candidate until the documents are submitted to the authorities.

NID DAT 2024 Reserved Categories

All the candidates applying for the admissions must mention their respective categories in the application form. The candidates form belonging to the Economically Backward Section, Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy layer, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, and foreign nationals are provided with a reservation of seats in the admission to the courses.

The category-wise division of seats for the Bachelor of Design course, as per the NID DAT 2024 Reservation Policy, is given as follows:

Note: The candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes- Creamy Layer are not entitled to any reservation. The candidates belonging to the OBC-CL category are considered as general category candidates. The benefit of reservation is given to only those castes and tribes that are mentioned in the central list of the corresponding states as issued by the Government of India.

NID DAT Documents Required

The candidates who desire to claim reservation are required to submit the following documents during the NID DAT 2024 Counselling:

  • Photocopy of the NID DAT 2024 Application Form
  • Original and sufficient photocopies of class 10th and 12th passing certificates and mark sheets for B.Des and GDPD courses. 
  • Original and sufficient photocopies of bachelor degree passing certificates and mark sheets for M.Des along with Class 10th and 12th passing certificate and mark sheet.
  • Reservation certificates (if reservation is applicable)
  • Sufficient number of passport size photographs
  • Photocopy of NID DAT 2024 Admit Card issued for Design Aptitude Test, Studio Test and Personal Interview

The candidates belonging to the reserved categories and who wish to avail the reservation are required to produce a prescribed caste/tribe certificate (preferably in English) from the competent authorities of the respective states/union territories/national commission of tribes. The candidates who belong to the OBC-NCL category, however, will have to produce a prescribed caste certificate (preferably in English) from the competent authorities of the respective states/union territories certifying that they do not belong to the creamy layer. OBC-NCL certificate will be valid only if is attained after April 1, 2024.

NID DAT 2024 Reservation Policy for Differently Abled Categories

The NID reservation policy also keeps a provision for reservation to the candidates belonging to the Differently abled categories. The Persons with Disability (PwD) will be given a 3% horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each programme cutting across all sections i.e. SCs, STs, OBCs (Non-Creamy only) and General category.

To avail the NID reservation the candidate has to keep in mind that it will be provided to only those candidates who have 40% or more category as per the rules and guidelines issued by the Government of India. These candidates who are seeking to avail the reservation under the PwD category are required to produce a Disability Certificate issued by the competent Medical Authority, Govt. of India, at the time of accepting the admissions offer.

NID DAT 2024 Reservation Policy for Foreign Nationals

The NID DAT 2024 reservation policy also has a provision for reservation to the candidates who belong to any country other than India. Any candidate belonging to the nationality of any other county than the Republic of India is eligible to apply for the NID DAT 2024 reservation in the category of Overseas Category.

There is a provision for 15% reservation of supernumerary seats in B.Des. and M.Des. Programmes. The candidates belonging to the NRI category (Non-Resident of India) shall be required to apply as Indian Citizens. However, the foreign passport holders with a valid PIO or OCI status do get a choice of applying under either the Indian or the overseas category. The candidates applying for the overseas category with a valid PIO shall have to pay the fee as per the fee decided for the Foreign Citizens.

Documents Required during NID DAT 2024 Admission

The final allotment of seats will be done after the final merit list of Overseas Category which shall be prepared after the completion of all the three stages of the admission process. To accept the offer of admission the candidate will have to appear in person at the respective campus of NID and will be required to produce the attested copies and the original documents as mentioned in the list below:

  1. An attested copy of the relevant pages of their passport containing details of the applicant.
  2. For B.Des. candidates: Attested copies of marksheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC and HSC (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit a bonafide certificate from school/ college).
  3. For M.Des. candidates: Attested copies of marksheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC, HSC, completed years of graduation and degree certificate/ provisional certificate/ passing certificate.
  4. An equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, aiuweb.org prior to admission.

The candidates holding the foreign passports will have to apply for the visa for the duration of the course beforehand and before the commencement of the program. The foreign nationals who apply for the overseas category under the NID reservation are not allowed to apply for any other category.

Ques. How many seats are there in NID DAT 2024?

Ans. The design course at NID Ahmedabad campus has 125 seats, Haryana – 75 seats, Andhra Pradesh – 75 seats, Madhya Pradesh – 75 seats and Assam – 75 seats. So, in total 425 seats are there at all five B. Design Campuses for Indian students.

Ques. How many OBC Seats are there in NID DAT 2024?

Ans. A total of 425 seats are there in NID DAT 2024. Out of which 114 seats are reserved for OBC-NCL.

Ques. What is the seat intake of M.Design for NID DAT 2024?

Ans. The M. Des program has an intake of 347 seats. This includes 126 seats offered by NID Ahmedabad and NID Gandhinagar each, and 95 seats offered by NID Bengaluru.

Ques. Is there any quota in NID?

Ans. Currently, NID has 425 seats out of which 327 seats are for M. Design. The institute has a reservation policy for OBC, SC, ST, General, and PwD.

My daughter is pursuing 12th Std. She is interested in B Des in NID. She has 40% disability. Is it possible to get admission through disability quota ?

NID do offers reservations into its course for disable students. As per the reservation policy, Persons with disabilities (PwD) will be given a 5% horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each program, cutting across all sections, i.e. SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy only), and General category. 15% supernumerary seats of NID DAT are reserved for foreign nationals. Students who have applied and taken NID DAT under Overseas category are eligible to apply for this reservation.
