Campus Life:

Campus is very good but there is no club for different activities (only one dance club has started around a month ago) and also teachers are not so supportive for extra-curricular activities. If we involve in social events like conpetitions or department fests then they will not give attendance.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I will say that the course curriculum is good but in the 2nd year also there should be field work as we are geology students we need practical work but it's not there. Internship duration should be 2 months.

The annual function here is ANKUR it is conducted every year . And students can participate in all the compitions they conduct in variety of field library facilities is also very good you can access to many books and can find wide variety of books there. Classroom is also good and charming. Sports and extracurricular activities is also good they provide wide field to apply in sports

Fees and Financial Aid:

In central university of Karnataka the fee structure here is 25,000 inr per year. And hostel fees is 18,000. Here they provide no scholarship for general students. Here there is no placements for students For sc st student they don't give hostel fees because for them there is no hostel fees. Cuk provide no financial aid to students.

Faculty:

In my Geology department, there are 6 faculties and in my class, there are 31 students. Some faculties are good and some are not good. Their teaching style is not that much good. While giving marks, there is favoritism and partiality. I interact with them when I have some doubts regarding the study.

Internships Opportunities:

I have done summer internship in Central Mine planning and Design Institute, Bhubaneswar which comes under Coal India. There is no facility for stipend. I did internship on mine planning project. We went Talchir coal field. It was a great experience.

Faculty:

There are 9 facilities in our department, including 7 permanent faculties and 2 contractual faculties. There are 5 batches in our department, almost around 250 students..The main thing is that one faculty will take more than 1 subject, which is not even their specialization or they will not have deep knowledge in that subject. So that will affect students. I mean faculties with their own specialization or area of interest are needed for each and every subject. Some of the faculties in our department are very good, having deep knowledge and understanding about the subjects but some show no interest in teaching, covering the syllabus and all(1 or 2). Teachers are very much interactive and approachable, which clears doubts. But are less interested in promoting sports and extracurricular activities.

Campus Life:

The overall experience of my campus life is Good. Self study is more important than class study here. An annual fest is held during the month of April which is called Ankur fest. It is a school-wide fest. Both sports and cultural activities are included in this fest. The library has many books and journals. An online library is also provided and is accessible on many websites like Springerlink, Willey, etc. But more number of competitive exam books needs to be added and more accessibility in journals. Sports are encouraged but not that many students union is there on this campus.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The total cost of education is somewhat around 2 lakhs including all course fees, hostel fees and mess charges. There are various scholarships like MCM etc which provide around 30000-40000 per year for financial assistance. Beside this there is also a loan provided by college whose interest rate is also very nominal. Yes there are many campus employments like placement teams, sports teams, dance teams etc. I recently joined ISCP team for mentoring our juniors.

Placement Experience:

From third semester students are eligible for getting placements. Companies like Cairn India, SLB, Exonn, Halliburton etc come every year for placements. Highest package is around 24 lakhs and average is 13 lakhs. The percentage of students getting placed is very less. After getting degree anyone can give competitive exams like gate for PSUs and GSI and if anybody is interested they can go for phds.

Internships Opportunities:

The companies offer internship in my department are Halliburton, Cairn, ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, etc. They offer the role of geologist as per our department and they offer other roles also to other departments like chemical engineers etc. But the internship seat to student ratio is very low, so we have to apply off campus on our own to do internships. If any one is doing internships via campus the there is a chance for them to get placed in those companies.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The fee structure is higher than other institutions but it is because of the facilities IIT Bombay offers to the students. But there are numerous scholarships you can get here. I got MCM (Merit cum means) scholarship where I got 40000 rupees per year for 2 years. There is Ups and Downs in campus placement every year but I didn't enrolled my self in campus recruitment so I didn't get any job from here.

Fees and Financial Aid:

Tution fees and hostel fees are very much affordable in both of my college i.e Aligarh Muslim University and IIT Bombay. While in AMU waiting period for hostel are too much and food quality is also not upto the mark but according to fees it's good. In IIT Bombay everything is world class.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As a student of B.sc (Hons) first two years you have to clear all the optional courses, which is a good perspective to overall development of students but due to this student can not totally concentrate on the main course and competitive exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I TOOK THE COURSE ON MY INTEREST TO KNOW A NEW SUBJECT. THOUGH THE SYLLABUS IS VAST IT DOESNOT BENEFIT FOR A COMPETITATIVE WORLD. THE TEACHERS SHOULD MOVE ON OLD CUSTOM OF ESSAY WRITING TO APTITUDE QUESTIONS AND MORE APPLICABLE ELEMENTS IN THE CURRICULAM. THE EXAMINATION SHOULD MAKE THE STUDENTS TO USE THE CREATIVE BRAIN TO ANSWER AND CRITICALLY ANALYSE THE QUESTIONS.

Campus Life:

THE ONLY FESTIVEL WAS DONE ANNUALLY- ANKUR FEST. THE LIBRARY DOES CONTAIN BOOKS BUT FOR A GEOLOGY STUDENT ITS VERY LITTLE. THE CLASSROOMS ARE VERY WELL PROVIDED WITH AC, TV SCREEN ETC... NSS IS THE ONLY EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY PROVIDED BUT ALSO CONTAIN SELF PRACTISES FOR CERTAIN SPORTS.

Campus Life:

For NAAC's accredition they have written that they conduct many workshops and festivals in university but in reality we have only one fest which is named as ANKUR.And when we ask our faculties for permission for conducting fests in our department they make fun of us. No available books in library. But the classrooms are fine.I will give a zero for sports and extracurricular activities. The influence of political party is at its peak. They see every thing on the basis of religion. They have made a student get suspension and have done life threatening. Have appointed nearly 200 security staffs which is of no use. They just behave rudely and do inappropriate things towards students. But campus life on the basis of friends is good.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I got to know about the course from my school teacher and he said it is a fine course and has more job opportunities. There is nothing i got from the curriculum for real-world applications. Only one or two faculties teach properly. Others are an utter flop. They are still following the old-school system. They must improve their teaching by giving more application-level tasks and all. Instead of giving an essay-type exam that simply tires the students. Instead, they must give multiple-choice questions that will make the students think more and read more will be more beneficial for their future.

Campus Life:

Overall Campus life is incredible since we are able to mingle with students from different states , which is good since that will lead to the gaining of knowledge about the cultural diversity of our country. Since the students are more broad-minded and progressive, nobody will feel insecure or inferior to anyone here and everyone supports the vulnerable like the LGBTQ community, PWD category, etc. The authority tries very hard to conduct as much as international conferences and all but it is less when we are talking about a Central University here. Every year the University conducts an annual sports and arts fest called Ankur and that is a spectacular event. Along with that, every department is free to do any kind of innovative, culture rich and more informative fest and conferences to improve the knowledge of students and give them some enjoyment from their stress-filled life. But for improving the students mental health and all the authority must take more initiative.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The Academic fees are more or less affordable but the increasing fees of hostels and messes is making the students suffer from financial instability. Since most of the students come from middle-class family, every time increasing hostel and mess fees make them difficult to pay. The acamedic fee per annum vary upto 21000 to 24000 while for a month we are giving 14000 rupees for hostel and mess while the mess food is horrible making the students sick and they are forced to eat from the outside and that will be increrasing their personal expense apart from the fee and all. NSP scholarships are given to the students like single girl child scholarship, scholarship for first rank holders etc. but students have to pay all the fee first and then only they will get the signature from the competent authority for the scholarship grant.

Ques. How is geology in IIT Bhubaneswar ?

● Top Answer By Priti Bansal on 13 Aug 20

Ans. Very few IITs in India offer Geology and all of them follow the same curriculum. The faculties at IIT Bhubaneswar is well qualified and experienced. Given below are a few advantages of choosing geology at IIT Bhubaneswar:- One of the parts of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus is close to Chilka lake, which is used for ocean and navel geology based courses, it is probably the only IIT in the country with such practical facilities available. Being one of the most culturally effervescent cities in the country and having a tropical savanna climate, Bhubaneswar is the most suitable for the field of climate and ocean research. There are a large number of elective courses of the geology department that are available in IIT Bhubaneswar with a few notable ones being Glacial Geoscience, Modelling and Stimulation, and many others. There are about 11 elective courses in MSc Geology each having 3 contact hours and 3 credits and divided between semesters(I and II) and (III and IV). The first two semesters have courses like environmental earth sciences and the 3rd and 4th semesters have courses like organic geochemistry.Read more

Ans. As a former student of MSc. Geology at IIT Bhubaneswar, I am going to shed some light on my department/institution: IIT Bhubaneswar offers an MSc. Geology program under the School of Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences.  The program's objective is to give students extensive instructions and training in Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences, including both basic and applied topics.  Additionally, students can also engage in innovative Earth System science research.  We have excellent faculty members at our department who are indulged in high-quality research.  The department students are indulged in workshops, presentations, and academic conferences at top institutes.  Last year, i.e. in 2023, the students of our department won the 1st prize in an oral presentation at the Research & Industrial Conclave, IIT Guwahati.  Based on these factors, I can assure you that joining IIT Bhubaneswar for an MSc. in Geology is a good idea.Read more
