Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I love learning more things about machines/engines. After admission, you will get a mentor 1:20 ratio. 1 mentor for 20 students which is great. If you are having any problem, just share it with your mentor, and he will guide you. Faculty are both mixed, good and bad. Actually, no faculty is bad, it's just that their teaching methodology is different and you didn't cope up with that. Some teachers are like you will love them, and some you will start hating. Anyway, it's the matter of every college, you have to learn by yourself and stop depending upon professor's to teach. Use the library inside the campus to learn. Here due to lockdown, everything is delayed. I can't say it with a guarantee but for me, my session started in November 2021, and from 24th January, I am having my CAT-1 Exam.

Campus Life:

Actually, it's only been 3 months on the campus, so I don't know much about fests conducted on the campus. But yes, there are cultural festivals conducted every 2-3 months. There are annual fests also which is celebrated once a year. You will surely enjoy it a lot. Also, there are celebrations for some festivals like Christmas inside the campus. So yeah you will enjoy it. There are plenty of books available in the Library, ranging from novels to foreign author books to journals. Monthly newsletters or magazines are also being printed at AMET. Culturals are being conducted every 2-3 months, so yeah plenty of extra-curricular activities to participate in. Talking about clubs, there are NCC, NSS, ROTARACT CLUB, LEO CLUB, ICC, and many more. You can participate in them, and get more knowledge in the respective field.

I did diploma in mechanical engineering and also BE MARINE ENGINEERING from same college. I have a good enough experience here. I searched it through google and it showed in first position. You can contact students at college and ask them about college only problem is food for notmrth indians which is a issue but anyhow once u enter you get used to it.

Admission:

I faced interview they ask simple questions very easy basic maths and physics. Also in admission the entrance will be based on 12th basics. Try to study and get sponsorship before joining college you can get sponsorship details through admission department.

Campus Life:

College organise Marine Traffic each year in the month of March. . * Library has been renovated after I completed my 4th semester. Before that library was not able to withstand the burden of the students. Library is well maintained but feel like there are not sufficient number of Books as per the strength of the course. * Class Room lacks proper ventilation in few old construction . Some of the classes are air conditioned but again due to no proper maintenance does not provide sustainable learning environment. No class have installed projector and class monitor has to carry the projector whenever faculty demands for it. * College offers facilities for various sports and swimming . I would say swimming pool and gym is well maintained on all grounds. AMET has its Band group. It's good learning time for students to be part of it while staying in university. * NSS (National Service scheme) is club in amet .It offers students to work as social worker and develop there personality.

Course Curriculum Overview:

* I wanted to join merchant Navy and this college offer good placement to its students. Although my observation was somewhat wrong because the exact placement offered is very low and very few companies offer job to marine engineering Students. * Faculty: student ratio is of 1:40 * You will find few Qualified teacher in the campus for core subjects . Teaching method is through projector and most of the content is covered by class learning but mismanagement of administration causes chaos in the proceedings. * Examination are conducted twice in the semester and it's easy to clear internal examination. Although you have to put some effort for clearing the semester examination.

The placement record of my college is not good as they show on the various website. But yes on the other hand when i came to my college for admission the director very well accepted the truth that the placement record of the campus is not good as we had thought . But he had also made us assure that the study environment of the campus is very good. And if any one do not get placement from the campus he will definitely get a job from outside because of his vast knowledge which he will going to gather in his whole 4 years course.

College Events:

As my college is situated at the south side of the country. So in here we do celebrate each and every festival of the southern area . But a guy from north india i also do feel that they should celebrate northern festival in a good manner as equal they celebrate their own festival. But we do also celebrate each and every event of our mother nation with all respect .

Remarks:

I opted for this course because I have always been a fan of Navy. Ships and oceans always fascinate me.I wanted to build my carrier here. The first time I got enchanted towards this field was through NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL(Mighty ships) episodes. Later on, I started gaining more and more information through the internet. There are broadly two ways of getting into merchant navy i.e Navigating officer & Engine officer. Specifically, I chose engine side because of my interest in Mechanical Engineering. Also the engineering side has more perks and benefits onboard a ship.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Regarding the course syllabus, I would say it was not fully updated. they just follow DG shipping syllabus basics. Marine engineering knowledge syllabus was good but electrical, electronics and Motor engineering practices syllabus were not up to the mark.yes you will get enough industrial exposures like ship visit and plant visit, port tour etc. There are some very good chief engineers, 2nd engineers and captains. Their experience will help you a lot to grow in this field. My favorite faculties; chief engineer ANBAZHAGAN, KL MANGESH, CENGG RAJSH & 2ND ENGG ARAVIND.

Ques. What are the future prospects of doing a BTech in marine engineering from Indian Maritime University?

● Top Answer By Saurabh Gupta on 20 Apr 22

Ans. Indian Maritime University offers fewer placement opportunities compared to private universities . It’s because Govt. colleges don’t pay placement fees to companies to hire students. However, If you want to join Govt. Sector, an IMU degree can help . Also, the Govt. has taken shipping as a challenge to boost our economy, so you can expect to get new job opportunities in the field.  Career change options are limited for Marine Engineers. As a Marine Engineer, you can’t fit into other professions and the opposite is also true. You need to be a 2nd engineer or a Chief to stop going to sea and start a career on shore. You can get some career options by doing an MBA. Various universities offer PG Diploma in Marine Engineering. Marine Engineering students can appear in GATE as well, but the questions asked in the examination are from Mechanical Engineering. Read more

Ques. What is the scope of naval architecture and ocean engineering from IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Jayeeta Saha on 30 Mar 23

Ans. Naval architecture and ocean engineering at IIT Madras is a multifaceted discipline with a perfect blend of principles of naval architecture, ocean engineering, and mechanical engineering that teach you to design, develop, and maintain ships, boats, and other marine structures and systems. A plethora of topics are covered under its curriculum some major topics being  Ship design and hydrodynamics Marine propulsion and power systems Marine structures and materials Coastal and offshore engineering Ocean engineering and technology Marine environmental engineering.  This program offers internship opportunities in shipyards, offshore structures, and Shipping societies. Some points about the job prospects of Naval and Ocean Engineering are The theory is much more intriguing and exciting than the real-life work experience  Beginners in this field have limited job prospects  Most desirable profiles are still not open in India  The job locations are limited owing to the nature of the field Unfortunately, the pay scale is much lower than expected as the jobs in this field focus a lot on experience and beginners struggle a lot in the beginning. Another option is pursuing MS or Ph.D. in the field to broaden your knowledge  You can enter Academia and apply as a faculty member in a prestigious Institute. Here, you can continue to conduct your research and work on consultancy projects to pursue your interest in the subject and meet your financial goals. All in all, the scope of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from IIT Madras is quite broad, covering many topics from design, analysis, and testing of ships, boats, and offshore platforms to marine environmental engineering and hands-on experience.Read more

Ques. How is placements for naval architecture and ship plaining at DoST Cusat?

● Top Answer By Somlata Ray on 20 Jul 21

Ans. According to one of my cousin’s personal experiences, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding is a very innovative course that a student can pursue, therefore get a chance to explore many different things. If you are interested in pursuing DoST CUSAT, then there are ample opportunities that you can get. Not only in terms of education but the college provides an excellent placement to all the students. But at the same time, you should be aware enough to grab the opportunities and work very hard to achieve the targeted career opportunities. There is a group of well-qualified faculty members who prepare you for all your future endeavors so that you can make the best out of yourself. Not only academics but they give you hands-on experience to the particular that is very helpful for you during your placement interviews. The placements are quite decent in which many prestigious companies across the country as well as from many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and various other countries participate. But due to the oil crisis, the placements were a little dull during the past one to two years. If we look at the overall placements they are good. Number of students placed 21 Highest CTC offered INR 24 LPA Average CTC offered INR 10 LPA Therefore, we can conclude that the placement opportunities for Naval Architecture and shipbuilding are very attractive to opt for.Read more

● Top Answer By Rituraj Bose on 05 May 21

Ans. I have a few friends at CUSAT, according to them, the Marine Engineering program offered by CUSAT is quite good. However, the number of boys in the branch is more. As girls mostly refrain from joining Marine Engineering.  Being said that, the placement statistics for the branch are quite good. Here is a brief highlight of 2020 placement for the branch. Average CTC 3 LPA Highest CTC 5 LPA Top Recruiters  MOL, Fleet, Synergy Job Roles Marine Engineer Compared to other BTech branches the Marine Engineering branch enjoys less freedom. The department is 1 km away from the BTech college of CUSAT and the rules are a bit strict too.Read more

Ques. Is naval architecture and ocean engineering in IIT Madras a good choice?

● Top Answer By Jayeeta Saha on 31 Mar 23

Ans. The Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering branch at IIT Madras offers courses over 3 levels  B.Tech level: This level offers the maximum job prospects one could ask for. The placements of BTech students of this branch are excellent although core offers are only a handful. This allows students to switch fields and enter banking, finance, or consultancy.  Some students go for MBAs or start preparing for government exams.  Those interested in Hughes studies go for a master's or a Ph.D. usually in top foreign institutes.  Masters level: The job prospects are similar to the bachelor's level but most students prefer going for a Ph.D. or a job The placement scenario is identical to BTech placements except that Masters students can also make it into companies that need mechanical or civil background. This is mainly because of their prior knowledge of mechanical or civil branches from the bachelor's degree. Most MTech students go to a job profile that aligns with their bachelor's domain  Masters students are more skilled and experienced and thus are offered more core jobs in comparison to BTechbstudents For those interested in higher studies, the option for Ph.D. from a top foreign university is open. Some even convert their Master's into Ph.D. at IIT Madras. Other than Civil and Mechanical companies, Masters's students are offered a plethora of non-core jobs with excellent packages.   Ph.D. level: This is the ultimate level and has very few job prospects  No placements are offered to Ph.D. students and most of them enter Academia and become professors in top colleges Those who are hungry for research, continue their passion by becoming Postdocs A very few are inclined towards startups based on their research work and open one of their or join someone else’s  No matter which level you belong to, the students of Naval get to experience the excellent campus life of IIT Madras and get equal exposure to extracurricular activities. The branch may provide limited core opportunities but remember IIT Madras attracts the best non-core jobs and someone open to challenges takes it from a positive perspective.Read more

Ques. Why do people choose naval architecture? What is the scope of naval architecture in India or abroad? I am thinking of doing it at CUSAT.

● Top Answer By Anurag shrivastava on 09 Aug 23

Ans. CUSAT offers a four year B.Tech program in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding. My brother pursued this degree from CUSAT a few years back. Naval Architecture deals with vessels, moving or stationary, that serve in a marine atmosphere. The vessels include ships plying in ocean or coastal areas, offshore rigs, underwater vehicles, submarines etc. Naval Architects perform mathematical calculations to ensure the sea worthiness of these vessels. For this purpose, softwares and programs are created and fed as algorithms to a machine. Most universities offer a secondary specialization alongside Naval Architecture. If you pursue your B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding, other than N.A. calculations, you will also work on shipbuilding techniques and practices. My brother also worked on a project on the preliminary design of a ship plying in a specific route required to carry cargo(s) at its maximum capacity(meeting the owner’s requirements). As far as job prospects are concerned, as a Naval Architect, you can be employed by shipping companies, classification societies, consultancies, or research institutes. You can also work at shipyards or at offshore companies that manufacture maritime equipment like life-saving appliances or ship engines. Indian organizations offer a limited salary in this field, usually ranging from 25,000 - 50,000 INR per month. Abroad, the salary usually ranges from 12 - 40 LPA. Your salary will depend upon your location and job profile. Offshore offers good packages which are way higher than shipbuilding. But because of changes in oil prices at present, only a few offshore companies hire freshers.  Depending on your job type and designation, you will get to travel sometimes/frequently for business, projects or some technical testing work. You can go for this course at CUSAT. However, I would recommend you to first prioritize the top Indian and Foreign institutions offering this program and to keep CUSAT as a secondary choice.Read more

Ques. Should I join AMET University for Naval architecture (lateral entry)?

● Top Answer By Deepika Roy on 05 Apr 21

Ans. It cannot be said yes or no for this question as it depends upon you how much you are interested in this field. While entering college you need to have an interest in the maritime field. This means that you should know about this field, growth, career, etc. You also need to have an interest in design, food production, and technology. Since this stream is very rarely taken by students, it is very costly. For choosing such a stream you should first assure yourself that you are financially sound. The various benefit of perusing naval architecture from AMET University is as follows: As this is a totally different field you will stand out among the crowd in the society and you may get a job as lesser people take this stream. If you try jobs abroad you may get good opportunities abroad with higher packages. You will also be getting challenging projects which will help you in your career. The various types of limitations of perusing this type of course are: You may get less opportunity in India. As a fresher, you may not get good jobs with good salaries. Since you will find difficulty in getting jobs your career growth will get hampered. This field requires more innovation which can be sometimes difficult for you. Since after investing a huge amount of money in this course there is no guarantee that you will get a good job with handsome salary, so there is a lesser return on investment. Now the final decision is yours. So, choose wisely.Read more
