Course Curriculum Overview

I have always had a keen interest in history, so I also wanted to pursue it in my graduation and I was able to do it. the curriculum covers vast amount of topics as we have 3 core papers per semester, which then increases to 4 in the 3rd year. there are papers covering indian history, European history and a particular country per semester- like,USA, china, japan, etc. an option for gender studies paper is also given in the 3rd year. i liked the course dynamic and therefore felt it would be interesting for me to study. for my future pursuits I feel the course covers a great deal of topics and helps me understand better as we also study a lot of historians and scholars apart from the just historical facts. But there are always improvements which I feel can be taken up, like including more practical and immersive teaching methods as just reading about history often make the course dull and uninteresting, though the professors keep providing us with valuable insights and material to study from. One has internals throughout the semester, which becomes even more hectic during the last month before the end sems as a lot of deadlines comes up, but if possible one should aim to do their internals as soon as one can and not delay as it helps prevent multiple deadlines before the exams. the difficulty levels vary from exams to exams in the internals; some assignments are more research-based based and professors expect you to do them on very academic level using research papers and official websites, unlike school, so it requires a good amount of reading and research.

Campus Life

LSR has two main annual fests - 1] Noor, during before Diwali break and 2] tarang, the main cultural fest which lasts for 3 days happens in march. then their are department fests which happen between February and April of each year and their are also some fests of different societies which involve cross college competitions. department fests include lots of seminars and discussions with eminent scholars of those fields and includes a lot of student interactive sessions. lsr has two floors of library- one is the ground floor library and the other is just above it the resource room. both of these have hundreds of books from various different subjects and lsr also has online library option which gives added access to books and one can borrow 5 books at a time from the library. the library also has vast variety of the important journals, magazines and newspapers. the classrooms are basic as the college has both the old infrastructure and some recent build buildings. the labs have acs but not the normal classrooms.

For every 10 students there is one faculty. We have mentors and mentee with one faculty member. Other than in class the teachers also helped in extra learning. Shrimoyee Guha Thakurta teaches us very good and in depth study. All the other faculties are also very nice and friendly. The pass rate of the batch is too high.

There are a lot of programs in Baptist college. Namely: cultural day, literary day, quiz competitions, sports weekend and much more. And the library is a medium sized library but almost all the books are available in the library. Within the classrooms there are cctv cameras and projectors in every classroom as well as cameras in the hallways. And when it comes to sports literally all the sports are played during sports event.

Course Curriculum Overview

I selected my main course as history because it was a really interesting course for me and this course was all about real world history so it was really fun to study. The overall teacher methods was grade A in my opinion. We had monthly tests and surprise test in order to prepare us for exams.

Course Curriculum Overview

Ram Lal Anand College offers a curriculum that balances theory with practical exposure, making it suitable for students aiming for careers in research, civil services, or the tech industry. Courses like B.Sc (Hons.) Microbiology and Computer Science include hands-on projects and updated modules. The curriculum supports real-world applications and academic growth, though some areas could benefit from more industry-relevant content and interactive teaching. Exams follow a semester pattern (twice a year) and are moderately difficult. With regular study, most students perform well. Overall, the academic structure is solid but could improve with more practical integration and teaching innovation.

Fees and Financial Aid

In my experience, the annual fees at Delhi University are quite reasonable for the program I am enrolled in. I find the fee structure manageable and reflective of the value of the subject matter being taught. For my course, the fee is 15000, which I think is a reasonable amount. Additionally, if you have a strong academic background, there are various scholarships available that you can apply for.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course I am pursuing is quite good, and anyone with an interest in history will definitely find it fascinating. Regarding the course curriculum, the overall structure is well-organized. Additionally, the exams are not very difficult; a student who studies adequately in the two months leading up to the exam can still achieve a good percentage.

Faculty

Our faculty is very good, they are very supportive and they have a good relationship with the students. For example, some faculties like Vandana mam of Economics is very good, Hemant Singh sir in Hindi department is always ready to support the students and Amarjeet sir too. Not only this, many other faculties are also very good and all of them are ready to support each other. Under Delhi University, we have an exam for every semester. It is held every 6 months. According to the syllabus of Delhi University, the exam pattern is a little difficult. Only a few students who do not study fail, the rest pass

Fees and Financial Aid

As compared to the other colleges in Delhi University, Kirorimal college charges only 11,000 to 15,000 per year as the college administration is completely under government sector. Previous year I got a refund of 1000 Rs as caution deposit. Complete fees structure of science and commerce department is higher than arts but not more than 18k. If you want to study in North campus in affordable fees structure then go for kirorimal college without any doubt.

Campus Life

Kirori mal college's NCC team is the best in the entire Delhi university. Every student in DU wishes to get selected for ou NCC team. A lot of technical and cultural fest are conducted in our college at the month from Jan to march. Our infrastructer of library is very good with proper air conditioning. A well grouped and structured societies are also the backbone of Kmc.

Faculty

The classes have the name of like 70 students in each section. Of course, even less than 30 attend the classes. The faculty of some subjects are very very very approachable, like personally, for my course, our teachers are top notch. Very approachable and very friendly. If I started name dropping faculties from my course, the whole review would be about them only. As of history, there are no teachers that I don't like but, I have pol science as my GE subject and most of the teachers there SUCK. not like they don't know how to teach or anything (some of them don't) but they're just straight off rude and unfriendly. As for the exams the system is same as in all other DU colleges. Any kind of mismanagement in exams or marking system is by the university, not by the college so if your dream uni is DU then you'll have to face the mismanagement by DU is either Deshbandhu or Hindu.

Campus Life

The college has a great campus ngl. It's huge and, clean and hygienic. Deshbandhu has the best library in the whole university. There is lack of hygiene in the canteen but things have started to change now. Its getting better slowly. There's a beautiful cafeteria where you can sit whole day chilling with your friends. Girls have a girls common room. It has chairs, tables, a bed and a changing room. The college has a huge archery ground and a ncc ground. The fests of different departments are taking place every other day. So daily life is quite fun, no cap. But the only drawback is the creepy crowd. The clubs and societies try their best to maintain the college life but the people here are just vibe killers.

Faculty

The students far surpasses the faculty members in numbers . As the number of faculty is only 2/7 that of the students. As for the faculties that I like in my college are my department faculty members i.e., from the history department as well as the English department faculty the reason being for liking them is for the interest that I have for myself and the manner in which this two faculty members work and their system or mode of conduct for various programs to mold a student. I also have some faculties that i dislike faculty from the pol.sci department and the commerce faculty. The pol. Sci is just too much of a hastle in almost every other college as well as it is in here. As for the commerce faculty it is not excatly the faculty but the students belonging to this faculty since they often think highly of themselves without even understanding how things properly about other courses for undergraduate programs. In total there are three exams held in a semester. 1st being the internal test given itself in our own classroom with the same classmates and the, 2nd which is also internal exam however in this 2nd internal exam students are divided and give exams among different department members in different classrooms and lastly the 3rd which is the external or also known as end semester exams. There are no exact numbers as to how many students fail to clear the exams as it strictly depends upon the performance of the students itself , however in the 2nd internal exam those who do not manage to pass also the papers are not given the rights to give the end semester exam and are dropped out immediately.

Fees and Financial Aid

To be precise our college is based only one time admission in a semester based system and we do not pay any form of tuition fees, development fees or lab fees. But we do have examination fees which is seperate from admission fee. The sum fee for which I paid for my course i.e., for B.A. history Hons during the 1st semester was 9040 rupees (approx) including the uniforms for the college i.e., t-shirt,pants and blazer. The examination fee for the 1st semester was 1290 rupees during the year of 2024. As for my other batchmates the B.A 1st semester students from other departments were also the exact amount of fees paid and also this applies to all caste groups and the fee does not depend on whether one caste group belongs to backwards or other caste. There are also scholarship facilities for students here such as: Post Matric Scholarship and as well as the Merit State Scholarship. A precise amount is not distributed in both the schemes of scholarship, post matric scholarship offers roughly 5000 rupees and is distributed in two installment system at the first installment a student receives about 3000 rupees and in the second installment 2000 rupees approx. Whereas the merit state Scholarship received roughly between 10000-14000 rupees all at once depending on the availability of funds sent by the government and does not follow the installment based system.

Faculty

There are 2 main blocks which are Arts block, Science block This college has a wide variety of teachers and only 2-3 of them are professional while there are also not very experienced teacher who join in for 1-2 semester. Approach and teaching style of these teachers are very respectful and amazing, there are other departments included on which the teachers just try their best on subjects that are way out and couldn't be learned easily. I am from history major and i mostly cover up my history classes. Some of the teachers their are amazing and very interesting to hear. It might be my most understanding class. Political department also has great teachers The worst is the English departmen in my opinion. The teachers are egoistic and partially racist towards some of the students, maybe only in my case but most likely they are tired of some of the students and want to go back. There are 1 exam and 1 test exam each semester The test is quite easy and the test includes in our internal The exam is however very difficult and takes time to even finish it. Failing students are quite a lot since none of them really care. The exams are quite based on our teachings maybe here goes one or two topics but it mostly covers up our exam and enough to get better grades

Faculty

Faculty members are good but They are the best for only hindi medium students not for the English medium students you will face some difficulties there and the course structure is in wide range you can do so many degrees there and the exam system is also too good They only conduct exam once in a Year and only you have to give cce for extra internal marks and if we talk about faculty to student ratio than it is very good around 100-200 students per faculty the best faculty is of history as their knowledge is wide and the faculty i don't liked was politics they don't teach regularly exam are less only 1 to 2 exams prr year it depends upon the course and so less students failed to clear the exam

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is too good i only choose this because I want to prepare for upsc civil services and the curriculum didn't prepare me well for the real world as they only gives theoretical knowledge but in real world Every knowledge is required also practical knowledge the frequency and timings are very less for exams as there are yearly based examination some areas where they can improve is improving their Study method in a hinglish language

Faculty

I like the faculty as they are very knowledgeable and teach really well. Although I do think that teachers should maintain there relationship with students in a way that they are not really involved in the students personal life considering that this is college and children should be able to take their own decisions and not be burdened by what the teachers require them to do. Also I really like professional people so it would be better if teachers were more professional and that is why I really like one of my skill enhancement teachers because she really maintains her boundaries.

Course Curriculum Overview

History my subject is relevant for me as I want to pursue journalism at some point in my life. I have two options for myself that are either taking psychology or journalism and I do pursue psychology as my general elective subject that will provide me a diploma by the end of my graduation so I can continue with masters in the same . So my subjects do work for me as history too provides me with the knowledge that I need to pursue journalism just in case I want to.

Fees and Financial Aid

• Yearly i will be paying four times in a row i.e we hav two semester yearly. We pay every semester two times that is one at the time of admission and other at the time of filling of forms during end semester examination. • During admission i pay 10050 including all stuff like uniform, sports fee, and so on. And during forms filling of end semester examination i pay around 1500 for examination sheet paper fees. • In our college everyone pay the same amount so there's so such structure where one has to pay differently. • Scholarship we received in year around 6000-8000 as financial assistance based on two installment wise i. e first and second installment wise. • Merit cum we received according to our merit i. e for merit students they received a different amount and for those under merit received different amount. Merit student they received around 10000-15000 .

Faculty

I like all our faculty members , there's no one that i dislike because everyone is soo good and friendly. In each semester we have two exams i. e one in mid term for internal assessment and other is for end semester exam. The question pattern id not that hard and everything is normal. We can failed even during internal assessment exam and during end semester exam. Students fail around 5-15 every semester.

Ques. What are the criteria for getting into Presidency University, Kolkata, in History (Hons.)?

● Top Answer By Abhilash Roy on 23 Jun 21

Ans. If Presidency University Kolkata is your dream college then you must have a solid academic record. Your board exam marks matter a lot. But entrance exam scores will be highly emphasized. You will be asked about the recent developments in the field along with the questions related to class 11th and 12th. Go through R.G Collingwood, Ideas of history, and Glean information from graduate-level books like R.S Sharma, Sumit Sarkar, and Shekar Banerjee. Having knowledge of post-modern theories like subaltern, queer theory, and genocide concepts will come in handy. Be up-to-date with all these concepts. Another key factor here is your English language skills. You are supposed to write the paper in English. Be careful of what you write and try to make it as thoughtful and transparent as possible. Try to be on point and avoid making convoluted sentences. If you check all the above-mentioned factors, it's almost certain that you will get into Presidency University Kolkata.Read more

Ques. Which college should I choose for History (hons) Dyal Singh College or Delhi College of Arts and Commerce?

● Top Answer By Swati Arora, on 25 Nov 21

Ans. It is suggested that you go for Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC) rather than Dyal Singh College (DSC). Here are some reasons why: If you want a college with better infrastructure and canteen opt for DSC.  On the other hand DCAC provides excellent Extra-curricular activities, societies, clubs, placements and overall exposure. The faculty of both the colleges are good. DSC is better in B.A subjects but not economics. DCAC has better connectivity. It is near to metro stations on the yellow line and pink line. Whereas DSC is only close to JLN stadium metro station on the violet line. Neither of the two colleges offer hostel facilities.  But it is easier to find accommodation near DCAC than to DSC. Accommodation near DCAC is also affordable. Therefore overall DCAC is a much better choice. But in the end it depends on individual preference. Try visiting both the colleges, explore, talk to the alumni or faculty members, if possible and then take the decision.Read more

Ques. How much percentage do I need to acquire to get an admission in Lady Brabourne College or Bethune College in Kolkata for History honours?

● Top Answer By Adrita Bose on 28 Dec 21

Ans. It will depend on the cut-off marks as set up by the college. It differs from year to year. If you score above 85 your chances of getting selected in the first round will be easier.  Later it will gradually drop down to 75-80. This will also vary among students of reserved and unreserved categories. Students belonging to reserved categories might require a lower score like 70-75, which can drop down to 60-65, depending on the course and the college’s set cut off.Read more
