Question 1

I am from outside Jharkhand. Can I still get into RIMS Ranchi for MD through AIQ?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A portion of RIMS Ranchi MD seats fall under the All India Quota, processed through MCC PG counselling at mcc.nic.in. Jharkhand domicile is required only for state quota seats through JCECEB. If your NEET-PG rank is competitive enough nationally, you can secure an AIQ seat regardless of your home state.

Question 2

The MD fees show 3,000 for three years. Is that really the full amount or are there hidden charges?

Accepted Answer

3,000 is the total tuition for the full 3-year MD programme since RIMS is a government institute. Hostel and mess charges are separate and payable based on accommodation availability. On the plus side, PG residents receive 56,100 plus DA monthly as stipend, which effectively covers living expenses during the programme.

Question 3

Is there any management quota or NRI quota for MD or MS at RIMS Ranchi?

Accepted Answer

No. RIMS is a government medical institute, and all PG admissions are strictly through national entrance tests: NEET-PG for MD, MS, and PGD, and NEET-SS for M.Ch. There is no management, NRI, or direct admission quota.

Question 4

NEET-PG 2026 is in August. When will I actually start the MD course at RIMS if I get a seat?

Accepted Answer

Students qualifying NEET-PG 2026 (August exam) join the January 2027 session. JCECEB counselling typically concludes by October/November, with formalities done by December, and the course starts January 2027. The July 2026 session students qualified under NEET-PG 2025.

Question 5

Is there a service bond for PGD at RIMS? Some Jharkhand state PG seats come with harsh bond conditions.

Accepted Answer

A service bond may apply for PGD state quota seats at RIMS, as is common across government medical colleges in India. The exact bond duration and penalty amount are specified in the JCECEB PG counselling prospectus, which is released each year before counselling begins. The terms can change year to year, so always read the prospectus before accepting a PGD seat at any government college.

Question 6

I hold a DNB in a surgical specialty. Am I eligible for M.Ch at RIMS through NEET-SS?

Accepted Answer

Yes, DNB holders in a relevant surgical specialty can appear for NEET-SS and are eligible for M.Ch seats at government institutes including RIMS, as per NMC norms. Eligibility is defined specialty-to-specialty in the NEET-SS information bulletin, so check the exact mapping of your DNB specialty to the M.Ch specialisation you want before applying.
