Ans. Choosing one between IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Bombay for CSE will depend on your personal preferences since both the institutes are highly regarded especially in the field of Computer Science. Always remember that your success rate is directly proportional to your efforts and not your college.  Consider the following aspects and the preferred choice in each of them If you are looking for an elite peer pool with the most geniuses minds, prefer IIT Bombay to IIIT Hyderabad as it comprises JEE toppers, Olympiad Toppers, etc If you are looking for a better coding culture then IIIT Hyderabad it is. It has a larger number of students involved in GSoC, Competitive Programming, Open Source, etc If you want a better campus experience as a whole go for IIT Bombay. Its campus has a lake, a hill, a jungle, Mumbai City Skyline view, thus the quality of life is better here. Both the institutes have equally good placements for the average students while IIT Bombay has better opportunities for toppers. Ans. IIT Bombay’s rankings are a testament to its credibility and worth in the technology industry. Most JEE toppers consider IIT Bombay as their first preference. This is because IIT Bombay excels in almost all X aspects of B8 placements, faculty, or exposure. During the placement season companies from a wide range of sectors visit the campus. However, there are some dark facts behind these placement drives. I came to know of these realities through true friends and pass outs of the institute. One cannot deny the fact that IIT Bombay has witnessed an increase in demand due to the strong influence it has. It is sad to say but many coaching centers run by alumni of IIT Bombay promote the institute. When engineering aspirants contact the alumni for counseling and advice, most of them portray IIT Bombay as the best choice leading to a more influential decision. What I ultimately mean is that IIT Bombay is definitely the best choice when it comes to engineering. But the fact that no other college is as good as IIT Bombay is also not true.Read more

Ans. I haven’t heard of many people who actually join Electrical Engineering because they want to genuinely pursue Electrical. Rather most students take Electrical because their JEE Rank did not allow them admission to any other branch. In fact, some even take Electrical Engineering and opt for minors that match with their areas of interest. When it comes to interdisciplinary subjects, IIT Bombay provides the perfect chance to do so. What usually happens is that students are unaware of their area of interest while choosing their branch during admission. As a result they end up taking disciplines that match their ranks rather than interests. However, if you are clear about your choice of branch, don’t hesitate and go for it without thinking much of your rank. Although difficult, you can always change your branch if you later regret choosing that specific branch. I always suggest aspirants only choose the branch on the basis of their preferences and not the placements. Even if you land a good job, you will never be satisfied if you are working in an area that does not intrigue or excite you.Read more

Ans. IIT Indore CSE is a well-established branch and the program is rigorous with numerous opportunities. It's the backbone of the institute especially because of the rich coding culture it promotes. Here are a few pros and cons to make you understand the program better Pros: IIT Indore CSE has highly qualified faculty that are amongst the most experienced in India.  The institute is well known for its rich coding culture and the ACM ICPC achievements are a source of motivation for many.  Being a part of the IT family, it definitely does well in the infrastructure aspect.  IIT Indore provides excellent opportunities to its students and many are able to make it into Ivy League Universities. IIT Indore provides excellent undergraduate research opportunities and has many foreign collaborations. IIT Indore CSE placements are great and during 2022 placements the CSE branch managed to secure 100% placements with the highest CTC of BTech at INR 48.5 LPA and the average at INR 30.32 LPA Cons: IIT Indore has a small batch size meaning you have fewer geniuses around you. They guide you to do projects and even motivate you for research work. Additionally, they teach you tactics to clear GRE and GATE for top universities and PSU respectively. Such kind of guidance isn’t available at every institute. The faculty-to-student ratio is great around 12 - 13 faculties for 40 students. This helps the students to get individual attention from faculty who track the personal and individual growth of every student.  IIT Indore has ties with the University of Stuttgart, Germany enabling students to do internships in the second year.  The students' demands are given due importance and the HODs bring all necessary changes demanded by the students to make things easy.  IIT Indore being new has top-notch labs with all modern equipment and instruments. Ans. In general, it is better to choose the branch of your choice. Given below are a few trade-offs of the two choices given on the question which may help you in making the decision.  MEMS - IIT Indore: Administration: IIT Indore belongs to the 2008-09 batch of IITs. Although it can’t be compared with older IITs but it has made remarkable progress in this short span of time. The administration and departments are well-settled. Extra-curricular at the institute are also developing with time. In 4-5 years, the institute is expected to have a great future. Course: BTech MEMS at IIT Indore is fairly new and the duration of the existence of the course is the same as the B Tech Electrical course at IIT Bhilai. However, the MEMS department has been functioning for a while at IIT Indore. As a department it has experience. The faculties are great.  Placements: MEMS has a lower placement rate as compared to other core branches of engineering. Metallurgy and Material Science is a niche field of study and the degree outcome is more research-oriented.  Change of Branch: However, you can change your branch to Electrical or Mechanical from MEMES at IIT I, if you work hard in your 1st year. Changing to CS is always difficult because of the competition. Electrical at IIT Bhilai: Facilities: IIT Bhilai was established back in 2016. It is only 4 years old. Electrical is a core Engineering discipline with better career prospects. But the disadvantage of this choice is the institute. You will have a few seniors in your branch and temporary faculties. Extracurricular: You will have good opportunities to start events, clubs, in the institute. On the other hand, the future at this institute is a bit uncertain. Campus Life: The institute also does not have a proper campus. You will not have a proper campus life for the next 4 years.  The table below shows a brief overview of the two institutes. Particulars IIT Indore IIT Bhilai Average CTC 17 LPA 11.22 LPA Seats 53 54 Fees INR 9.15 Lakh INR 4.90 Lakh One of my friends had an option between Mechanical at IIT Indore and CS at a new IIT. He chose Mechanical at IIT Indore. Judging by his experience it is safe to say that he made the right decision at least for 2-3 more years.  The choice is up to you if you would rather trade off on the branch or on the institution. Ans. My brother was in a similar dilemma last year when he had to choose between MnC IIT Guwahati and CSE IIT Indore. Eventually, he went for IIT Indore CSE. The main reason he decided against going for the MnC program was his lack of interest in Math. And when we talk about Math at IIT, trust me when I say it’s at another level. It’s purely proof-based and high-level Math that can be handled only by true Math lovers. The academic workload is also high with 60% Math and 40% CS courses. Now, here are a few points that might convince you to join IIT Indore instead IIT Indore qualified for ACM-ICPC World Finals thrice. This in itself is quite an achievement considering this event's importance. As per HackerRank, IIT Indore is said to have the best coders in the whole country. Additionally, it’s at the 8th position globally for the best coders IIT Indore has an extensive alumni base who completed their Master's from top foreign universities like Stanford, Caltech, University of Columbia. Many talented alumni also increase the credibility of the institute by working at reputed firms like Google and Facebook. This year, the CS department recorded 100% placements with the highest and average packages standing at INR 48.5 LPA and INR 30.32 LPA respectively.
