Always remember that your success rate is directly proportional to your efforts and not your college.  Consider the following aspects and the preferred choice in each of them If you are looking for an elite peer pool with the most geniuses minds, prefer IIT Bombay to IIIT Hyderabad as it comprises JEE toppers, Olympiad Toppers, etc If you are looking for a better coding culture then IIIT Hyderabad it is. It has a larger number of students involved in GSoC, Competitive Programming, Open Source, etc If you want a better campus experience as a whole go for IIT Bombay. Its campus has a lake, a hill, a jungle, Mumbai City Skyline view, thus the quality of life is better here. Both the institutes have equally good placements for the average students while IIT Bombay has better opportunities for toppers. This is because IIT Bombay excels in almost all X aspects of B8 placements, faculty, or exposure. During the placement season companies from a wide range of sectors visit the campus. However, there are some dark facts behind these placement drives. I came to know of these realities through true friends and pass outs of the institute. One cannot deny the fact that IIT Bombay has witnessed an increase in demand due to the strong influence it has. It is sad to say but many coaching centers run by alumni of IIT Bombay promote the institute. When engineering aspirants contact the alumni for counseling and advice, most of them portray IIT Bombay as the best choice leading to a more influential decision. What I ultimately mean is that IIT Bombay is definitely the best choice when it comes to engineering. But the fact that no other college is as good as IIT Bombay is also not true.Read more

Ans. I haven’t heard of many people who actually join Electrical Engineering because they want to genuinely pursue Electrical. Rather most students take Electrical because their JEE Rank did not allow them admission to any other branch. In fact, some even take Electrical Engineering and opt for minors that match with their areas of interest. When it comes to interdisciplinary subjects, IIT Bombay provides the perfect chance to do so. What usually happens is that students are unaware of their area of interest while choosing their branch during admission. As a result they end up taking disciplines that match their ranks rather than interests. However, if you are clear about your choice of branch, don’t hesitate and go for it without thinking much of your rank. Although difficult, you can always change your branch if you later regret choosing that specific branch. I always suggest aspirants only choose the branch on the basis of their preferences and not the placements. Even if you land a good job, you will never be satisfied if you are working in an area that does not intrigue or excite you.Read more

Ans. Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points  You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult. If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities. You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE.  The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. Ans.  I don’t need to even think twice before saying that IIT Dhanbad CSE is a far better option than Thapar CSE. The former is funded by the central government thereby offering an excellent academic background and opportunities. IIT Dhanbad has a beautiful campus and a vibrant campus life.  Here is the placement scenario of its CSE branch: Placement Percentage 93.13% Average Package INR 27.29 LPA Salary Range INR 5 LPA to INR 56 LPA Number of Recruiters 167 Thapar University, on the other hand, is a semi-government tier 2 that cannot be compared to IIT Dhanbad at all. Ans. As a B.Tech ECE student at IIT Dhanbad, I can give you some insight on this course. The ECE faculty consists of a handful of professors who are genuinely interested in this branch. You’ll get to study from them in the last 3-4 semesters. The rest won’t teach or guide you much.  Only the top performers get placed in core companies. Most of the recruitments are made by IT and software firms. For those jobs, you must learn good enough coding to be able to compete with fellow CSE students. Ans. IIT Dhanbad is better in CSE as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad, established in 1926, is one of the oldest institutes in the country. On the contrary, IIT Bhubaneswar, established in 2008, comes under the list of new IITs. The overall placement package for CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar might be more alluring than IIT Dhanbad, according to 2019 placement statistics there was 100% placement from the CSE branch and the average placement package offered was around 11.4 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA. However, in IIT Dhanbad, the placement rate of the CSE students were 90.23% and the highest CTC offered was 39.5 LPA. Besides the number of students at IIT Dhanbad is more than IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad has an excellent coding culture and organizes a vast number of technical and cultural fests. The number of opportunities in CSE offered by both institutions is almost the same. However, IIT Dhanbad definitely has a slight edge over IIT Bhubaneswar. Being one of the oldest institutes, IIT Dhanbad has better infrastructure as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. Ans. The answer to this question depends on various factors but to keep it short let’s talk about the NIRF-2019 ranking (engineering category) and placement statistics (CSE Branch) of the institutes. IIT Dhanbad has been ranked at 15th among NIRF Ranking 2019. According to the placement statistics of 2019-20, the percentage of b-tech computer science students placed during campus placements was 90.23%. The percentage of B. Tech & M. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (dual degree) placed during campus placements was 66.67% with the highest CTC of INR 23.80 LPA. The highest salary package offered in the computer science branch (B. Tech) was 39.50 LPA. The overall average package offered in all the b-tech branches was 15.50 LPA. Major recruiters include Accenture, Goldman Sach, Synopsys, Microsoft, Flipkart, Siemens, Amazon, Adobe, etc. Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar has a NIRF Ranking-17. The placement statistics 2019-20 reveal the overall percentage of b-tech students placed during campus placement drives was around 89.55%. The percentage of computer science students placed was 100% this year but the average CTC offered to the students was less than that of IIT Dhanbad. The highest package offered to the computer science branch was INR 39 LPA. The major recruiters included Amazon, Adobe, Accenture, Akash Institute, BYJU, Atkins, Angel Broking, DELL, Honeywell, INTEL technology, etc. The average package offered was 11.90 LPA.
