What students say about York University

Likes

  • It is a good curriculum that is structured in a way for students to find manageable and succeed in.
  • Yes, it includes internship opportunities in the course. In addition, the university has job fairs and career centers that assist you in securing an internship. They have partnerships with many reputable companies, making it easy to obtain an internship.
  • Good companies, such as Bell, Rogers, Telus, Best Buy, Amazon, and many more, come to campus for the job fair.
  • Lassonde has its own scholarships, alongside the universitys, so in that regard, this university is providing scholarships for each case.
  • Those two semesters were amazing, and we had a great cohort that studied and partied together.
  • Excellent campus, it has a huge campus compared to many other institutes; it is near 7 acres.
  • The fees are not too high as compared to other institutes and universities in the world.
  • The faculty was nice; the professors were helpful and knowledgeable about the subjects they taught.
  • I have submitted all the necessary documents for the admission process.

Dislike

  • The other reason I graduated during COVID-19, being at its peak, making any post-grad opportunities very limited

  • Nothing everything is good except from snow that can be very handful and not good. Try layering and keep a helathy diet. Plus carry multi vote with you since you don’t get many sunlight during winters and it gets night around 4:30 pm also there is take care of your food since there is chances you can loose wait there due to walking in classes.

My college experience was very good and i made food friends and had a very good experience and had fun got a lot to learn . Plus the environment good in summers but in winter do layering plus have a daily schedule planned out on the basics of classes and the rest would be very good

  • I hated that the academic stress got too much and we let it interfere with our peace. I also hated the extreme competitiveness of the all the international students. I disliked the gap in communication and underlying discrimination caused by our Indian accents. Even other Indian students are rude to you, if you are not up to date with the slang, or the local culture. We have to put in a lot of effort to fit in, which causes a lot of stress.

The overall experience at the University of Waterloo was not very good. I got academically burdened and faced a lot of obstacles in finishing my degree, which led me to transfer to York University. It could have been a much better experience if I knew how much academic stress I was going to face. There is a huge difference between studying in a college in India and studying in a University in Canada. Social life plays a very important role in keeping your sanity and not feeling homesick. International students must know how to manage their finances, cook good food and be regular at exercising and gym. Keeping a strong balance between work and study is essential too. More than anything else university in Canada taught me a lot about being independent and living a healthy adult life.

I chose this university because of the location of the institute, the course, and the business school. Overall experience is good. Infrastructure is good. Campus is good. Cheap food options. But jobs are not available neither part time nor full time. That's a little disappointing. Apart from that professors are excellent and are very helpful.

I had to submit an online SOP before the arrival of the offer letter. The main point of SOP is to be true to what you want and emphasize your skills and curiosity to learn. Additionally, u would just need a transcript certificate from your previous college My university experience was great as I got to learn many new things and get a chance to interact with people from all over the world.

  • The school is academically rigorous which sometimes is good however might be a burden for students applying for Fulltime/ Part time jobs. The University is a little away from downtown region of Toronto where most of the companies are located

Overall I would say it was a life changing experience when it comes to Schulich School of Business, York University. The staff is welcoming and never I felt I was in a different country because of the people around.

  • Not much diversity as lot of students are Chinese in class. Its hard to socialize with them. Also, university doesn't help you to get placed in company after completion of course. For international students, it's really competitive to get the job after Masters.

Overall, it was an interesting experience due to new culture, new friends. On the academic front, I learned a-lot through case studies, projects, group assignments. I feel program length should be more than 12 months as it becomes very hectic for international students to manage all the workload.

  • The school has low diversity.,
  • Not enough focus on group activities outside of school work. Schulich MBA ropes in only pro sports individuals.,
  • Low utilization of ancillary business that support the York University ecosystem as a means for intermingling.

The experience was enriching and pro academics. The B-School maintains a diversity in age groups even though the diversity in nationalities is fairly limited so international exposure is lacking to an extent. Overall a student expects to attend one event a month with the diverse cohort. Overall I would rate the experience 8 on 10.

  • In terms of diversity, Schulich is lagging behind as almost 80% of the student strength here is from Asia (especially India). This makes a huge negative cultural impact in terms of studies and work culture.

Overall it is a decent experience. While the amenities are fine, I feel everything is left to the student to find their own job or progressing in their career. I wanted more diversity and better economic opportunities. If given a chance, I would try for a US university.
