What students say about Carleton University

Likes

  • I believe that the course curriculum for computer science is challenging, as well as intuitive.
  • Teaching Assistant at Carleton University: I found it through connections and good relations with my professors.
  • There are many companies that allow for placements at Carleton University, even long-distance ones that apply to all programs.
  • It is really good; it has a lot of clubs, events, and extracurricular activities on campus, as well as research facilities, libraries, WiFi, sports facilities, etc.
  • Living on campus is a very easy way to meet new people. At my university, the meal plan is included in tuition, which is great!
  • The tuition at Carleton is very affordable, and there are plenty of opportunities for bursaries and scholarships.
  • They are good at connecting what we are learning to real-life industry practices, which I happen to find the most beneficial part of all.
  • I learned about this college through word of mouth from older friends who had gone there.

Dislike

  • The only other option is Ottawa University, and their tuition is almost a third more expensive.

A comprehensive list of extracurriculars is required, otherwise the holistic process just consists of your high school GPA. Carleton University offers one of the only Pre-Law programs in Canada, which is what majorly drew me towards it. Along with that, the placements in the fields of psychology and law are quite well-reputed. The city of Ottawa as well, since the Parliament is located there, is what made me choose Carleton due to the plethora of internship opportunities. Till now, my experience at Carleton has been amazing, right from the academic structure of my course, to the approach of the faculty, to the social assimilation.

Overall it was a good experience. Although coming from another country and adjusting is difficult but it was overall a very good experience.

  • As I said above, the location of the University is a bit of the problem because the Ottawa region has long and cold winters.

Scholarship and Program Structure. The co-op option helps to gain some work experience during the degree apart from making some money. The community is nice and supportive as well, with a good amount of resources available for all sorts of problems that one might bump into. I love the course structure and teaching methodologies applied by the faculty, but I dislike the Canadian winters. They're depressing and make you want to skip onto work that's important to hand in within a given time frame.

Carleton University has a separate Data Science Lab and they specialize in Data Science. I can choose courses from either Carleton or Ottawa and thus have the advantage of studying at another branded university. I could shape my master's curriculum. I can study whatever I want. This is what I studied about ML in my Master's. Carleton has an underground tunnel to keep you warm while you go to university in the winter. They have well-knowledgeable faculty. They cover more material and the exams are tougher but you will benefit from learning many things. Carleton is one of the best institutions if you want to tailor your master's to your interests. You have the option of taking courses outside your department. I took two courses outside my department.

Carleton University is one of the highly ranked universities in Canada and is located in I capital of Ontario i.e. Ottawa which is one of the best places for international students in terms of Job Opportunities and facilities. Furthermore, the University has its alumni placed in high-ranked companies which is a big plus point to join Carleton.

I learned about this college through word of mouth from older friends who went there. The admission process was very easy (like most other Ontario universities done through OUAC). I applied to three other universities (Toronto, Laurentian, and Windsor). I choose this university because when touring the school I realized how nice the campus was- everything is conveniently together in one campus and there is a very warm sense of community there. The students are kind and the profs care about students. There is always help for anything you are experiencing. Ottawa itself provides the capital city advantage with lots of volunteer and job opportunities as well as delicious restaurants, lots of services, and tourism. I was an A student in grade 12.

Least expensive University in the Ottawa area. The only other option is Ottawa University and their tutition is almost a third more expensive. This was the only University I applied to, therefore I did not spend a lot of time or money applying to different schools. I believe that the application price was just over $200.

Good school for the program I wanted to take, and the city I study in is very big in the career path I'm hoping to take. Got a scholarship and an award, out of the 5 schools I got accepted to it was the highest amount of money. Wanted to go to this school since I knew I was going to university. I took law in high school and knew that was the path I wanted to take, and within the program, I am in I learn about so many interesting things.

It’s in Ottawa, which is very helpful for my major. So much history has happened here and is happening. I also really liked how close the campus is. It’s really contained but still big enough that you feel like you’re somewhere new.
