What students say about Queen's University

Likes

  • An optimal amount of time is given to students to enable them to do well.
  • It was good because I could manage my studies as well as my internship hand in hand.
  • If a student wishes to have a job during school, the odds are that they will be able to find one in some way.
  • Queens offers a substantial amount of scholarships; however, one must be prepared to pursue them on their own time.
  • The student ghetto here is great because it\s practically on campus, and everyone lives very close.
  • Fees, residence, and meal plan are paid together, whereas textbooks you have to buy on your own.
  • For example, students in politics form their own network despite being part of the larger faculty.
  • My mother went to Queens University for undergraduate and graduate studies, and it is one of the best schools in the country.

Dislike

  • The only thing I find weird is that arts and sciences are in the same faculty

  • I had a rough experience at queen's because I had to go through COVID while studying there. Neverthless, the online courses were just as good and impactful. Queen's and Kingston in general didn't have a vibrant Indian community that left me feeling a bit disenfranchised at times. The University also provides little to no help for placements and career opportunities.

Overview:

The overall experience was bitter sweet, bitter because we had to go through Covid while at Queen's, sweet because of the opportunities that it opened up for me later.

Fees:

$27,000.

  • The commerce program is secluded and feels like a bubble, not a lot of international students. Far from Toronto, and no coop program, but still good relation with top firms in Canada. Not known outside canada

Overview:

The people have been amazing and the culture is totally unique to what other universities have. You should message Queens commerce students on LinkedIn to learn more, everyone would be happy to talk. The lake adds to the experience.

Fees:

CAD 18,000/ year for local and CAD 57,000 for international. The local fee is highest in Canada for any domestic undergrad program. Non-commerce programs other than engineering cost around 7-10K cad.

Overview:

The city of Kingston where the university is located is very beautiful. And I have talked to some people from that university and one of the major thing everyone mentioned was that the teachers are very passionate. And that is the one thing that matters to me the most about any institute.

Overview:

They had an easy application process and are very well known for their amazing business school. They have high retention rates and high success of employment after graduating. They also offer a joint Bcom and JD program, few unis in the country do. I was too of my class, president of service clubs, and a public speaker. I did the IB program and they transferred my credits easily.

Fees:

For commerce, it was about 15,000 per year. Books are about 400 per semester. I'm not sure if there are scholarships for international students. There are many entrance and commerce specific scholarships available. I was awarded the chancellors scholarship for 36,000 (9,000 per year). It is for students who excel in academics and extracurricular.

Overview:

Its reputation and sense of community is something I was immediately attracted to. Also, Queen's prides itself on its traditions and heritage that are part of its history as an educational institution. Also, Queen's is a fair distance away from my hometown so it's not hard to get home if needed but also I'm far away at the same time.

Fees:

Tuition for a full course load (100%, 5 courses/ 18 credit units) is CAD$ 3,429.50 per semester and a total of CAD$ 1,099.44 is charged in mandatory student fees and ancillary fees. These include charges for student services, campus extra-curricular, athletics and recreation membership, student government fees, etc. With the introduction of the Ontario Government's Student Choice Initiative, many of these fees will become opt-out which is eliminating many of the programmings our student government offers and supports available on campus. Overall, how much is paid in student fees will vary amongst individuals going forward.

Overview:

Parents went there. Was originally in the con-Ed program, one of few in the province. It was far away from home while being less than a day?s travel. Cost of living was much lower than home, and it had a vibrant queer community.

Fees:

Basic student fees for transit pass, insurance, gym membership, student government. Courses were included in tuition fees, dropped courses by a certain date are refunded. Textbooks are often expensive, though some profs will use older versions that can be bought secondhand.

Overview:

Knew a lot of friends that planned on attending the university and had a strong interest in their cheerleading team. A great community environment and a very pretty campus felt very welcomed. It was very easy to make friends.

Fees:

In the first year, the residence was quite expensive because of having a food plan. This year I only pay tuition which has made it a lot cheaper. Textbooks are another expense that I had to pay for which can become very expensive very fast when I need one for every class. $200 for a textbook is too expensive when I have to buy 5 of them.
