I chose this university because of following factors: • Courses - flexibility in selection & wide range of courses • Affordable tuition fees • Good ranking for Industrial Engineering Overall, it was a new and unique experience, could explore diversity in terms of people, infrastructure, events, food. Had to take academics seriously. Good faculty support. Different approaches by different professors for teaching.

Overview:
3 LORS AND SoP were required. Skillsets directly related to field of study and reason for (if applicable) shift in field of study No I didn’t have any round of interviews. The best college out of current choices with a great program for my area The perfect college experience except for the weather which is very violent. We experience temperatures as low as -20. The crowd is good as the town is a university town and so we’re always surrounded by the people of same age group. Uni definitely has a party town reputation but it’s the best of both worlds. Connecting with people is slightly hard due to very undiluted crowds and still some racism
Fees:
1200 per credit. 24 credits to graduate

- Dislikes:
- I hate the location as there is nothing to do apart from the campus life as Madison is a very small city. The winters in Madison are brutal and being from a city where it never snows it is tough to manage.
Overview:
The university has amazing CS program and also have a balanced student life hence I chose this university. I would like to say my 1st semester was a mix and match of mixing in academics and also living alone which was nice.

- Madison is a very safe city with good public transport and the cost of living is less compared to other major cities. Tuition is also very affordable. Great coursework with strong emphasis on research and is one of the best universities for systems (OS, distributed, data systems, etc) engineering. Plenty of opportunities for TA/RA/part time.
- Dislikes:
- Weather is not very friendly but is manageable with the right set of clothes. All graduate level courses require you to read research papers on a regular basis and the projects will also be research centered. It will be difficult at first but you’ll soon get used to it.
Overview:
My experience has been very positive, got to learn so much from professors and peers and also have fun with other graduate students.
Fees:
Tuition is ~$1200 per credit. Total would be around 40000 - 45000 with insurance. Cost of living depends on your lifestyle but you can get apartments with a private room for <$700.

- As an Indian student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I genuinely appreciate the academic rigor and the vibrant community present on campus. The university offers a diverse range of programs and courses, providing ample opportunities for intellectual growth and exploration. The small college town atmosphere adds a unique charm to the overall experience.,
- Madison is known for its picturesque surroundings, with beautiful lakes and green spaces, creating a serene and peaceful environment that enhances the learning atmosphere. The friendly and welcoming nature of the local community fosters a sense of belonging, making it easier for international students, like myself, to adapt and thrive.,
- One aspect that stands out for me is the strong Indian community at the university. There are several student organizations and cultural associations that actively promote Indian culture, traditions, and celebrations. These groups provide a support system for Indian students, allowing us to connect with fellow students who share our background and experiences. Events such as Diwali, Holi, and Indian classical music and dance performances bring a touch of home and create a sense of unity within the Indian community.,
- Moreover, the university encourages community engagement and volunteer work. - Dislikes:
- While there are numerous aspects I adore about the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I must acknowledge a few challenges that have impacted my experience. One notable factor is the weather, particularly during the winters. The extreme cold temperatures can be quite daunting, and the shorter days with early sunsets sometimes give a feeling of melancholy. The university occasionally closes early due to inclement weather, which can disrupt schedules and affect productivity. Nevertheless, it's an opportunity to embrace the beauty of winter and indulge in cozy campus activities like hot cocoa gatherings or winter festivals.,
- Another aspect that can pose difficulties is the course enrollment process. Being a public university, there is high demand for popular classes, and they tend to fill up quickly. This can occasionally result in challenges in securing all the desired courses, which may require careful planning and flexibility to create an optimal degree plan. However, the university's academic advisors and support services are available to assist in navigating these situations and finding alternative solutions.,
- Additionally, the cost of living in Madison, including rental prices, can be quite high. This financial aspect can create some struggles for students, including myself, at times. However, it's important to note that the university offers various resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and part-time job opportunities to help alleviate these challenges. Exploring cost-saving measures, such as shared housing or seeking affordable off-campus options, can also contribute to managing expenses effectively.

Academically, I have been exposed to a wealth of knowledge and have had the opportunity to learn from esteemed professors who are experts in their fields. The university's rigorous academic programs have challenged me to think critically, expand my intellectual horizons, and develop valuable problem-solving skills. Beyond the classroom, I have grown tremendously as an individual. Moving to a new country and navigating the challenges of living independently has allowed me to develop resilience, adaptability, and self-reliance. The university's diverse community has provided a supportive and inclusive environment that has made the transition smoother, and I have formed meaningful connections with fellow students from all walks of life. One aspect I particularly treasure is the friendships I have forged. The university fosters a sense of camaraderie, and I have met incredible individuals who share my interests and passions. Collaborating on projects, engaging in stimulating discussions, and simply enjoying each other's company has enriched my experience and made my time at the university truly memorable. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in my passions. Whether it's participating in student organizations, joining clubs, or attending cultural events, the university offers a myriad of opportunities to pursue my interests. This has not only allowed me to engage in activities I am passionate about but has also broadened my perspective by exposing me to different cultures, traditions, and viewpoints. Reflecting on the past year, I can genuinely say that my experience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been transformative. It has provided me with an excellent education, expanded my global outlook, and equipped me with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
