- The Campus is very good, there are events every day. Its a fun campus life
- All the professors are very helping and reachable
- There are plenty of good On-campus Jobs available
Dislikes
- Not all programs are good, some are just cash cow programs
- More safety should be there, although there are shuttle and cab services
- The location is on the outskirts, it is difficult to commute
Campus Life
- There are various departments and the campus is really big and beautiful with a lot of scenery and greenery. There are around 607 different libraries with different fascinating architecture, and they are very silent to study in, with conference rooms available for booking for group activities and meetings.
Accommodation
- Accommodation for UG is on campus with very good but very expensive dorm rooms, with a dining hall. For others, I guess it is off-campus. There are many, many leasing companies that help students find accommodation. Some find places on Facebook as well. It is better to live near campus than away from it.

- It is a comparatively safe university to get in - especially if you have previous professional experience. I had 3 years of work experience as a Software Engineer back in India and hence, I like the idea of a professional masters rather than a Thesis Based one. As mentioned before, the CS program here is specifically designed for people who come from non-CS backgrounds and hence, I found it to be best suited to my needs.
- University of Chicago is one of the oldest and most popular universities in the United States. It is well known for its physical sciences, computer science, management (Booth School) and public-policy programs.
- It is known for a lot of inter-disciplinary programs and research - and especially for computer science - it is a well-known university and one of the rare few, which gives non-CS students an opportunity to pursue Masters in Computer Science.
Dislikes
- The professional masters programs can be quite heavy on the pocket since it is a private school. Teaching assistant roles are offered to students but these roles are very few and they provide a stipend but do not waive off part of your tuition fees (which many other universities in US do).
Campus Life
Campus life is very dynamic with so many events happening around all the time. Lot of emphasis is on sports and extra-curriculars and the facilities for the same are world class. Fun fact - Michael Phelps used to practice at the Olympic size swimming pool in the uni (we were told about this during campus tours). The Harry Potter vibes in the campus buildings are surreal. There are 5-6 huge libraries and they host millions of books including some of the oldest records in a lot of domains - since the college has been here since 1890s.
Accommodation
Graduate students are not allowed in campus accommodations - they have to arrange their own - off campus accommodation and the rent prices are about 800 USD per month for individual rooms.
Likes
- The teaching process is very interactive and professors are very friendly.
- The university provides lot of study resources to the students.
- It also provides a lot of commuting facilities to the students.
Dislikes
- The quarter system makes the curriculum a bit hectic.
- Three courses are to be completed within a span of 10 weeks which make it difficult for professors to cover all the topics and students to learn them.
- But professors make great effort to complete all the topics. There are quite less career fairs to support students in their job hunt process.
Campus Life
There are lot of clubs in every region, gym , library , wifi are available.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not provided for masters students. MPCS students stay in nearby areas to university.
Accommodation
There are several dorms on campus that differ in location, architecture and culture of students that live there. All rooms have basic necessities such as access to a common kitchen and a private or shared bathroom. The cost is included in the school fees you pay. you can also choose to live off campus in one of the nearby apartments.
Ranking and culture both appealed to me when i was choosing. it was the top school in economics and the people i spoke to seemed very intelligent and interesting.
Accommodation
I live off campus which has been great. Next year I'm considering moving to on-campus housing so that I can be more involved in the community. Really, you can?t go wrong living close to the school or downtown. It's fairly easy to get to the school in many places!
It's a top-ranked school and I wanted to take advantage of the best opportunities presented to me! I think my school will be able to catapult me to the highest levels of success. Also, I love the Chicago area and knew I wanted to live here.
