Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) is located in Shimla District, Ghandal and was established in the year 2016, by the Himachal Pradesh Act of 2016. HPNLU Admissions 2024
HPNLU Shimla Admission to all the UG, PG and Doctoral courses is based on the merit in their respective entrance examination. HPNLU conducts a written entrance test for admission to PhD in Law program. Candidates qualifying in UGC NET / JRF are excluded from the entrance test and can appear directly for the personal interview. For BA LLB (Hons) / BBA LLB (Hons) and LLM Admission, candidates are selected based on their merit in CLAT UG and CLAT PG followed by the counselling conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. Himachal Pradesh National Law University provides infrastructural facilities such as hostels, a library, and a cafeteria to the students. These facilities are required for their comfortable and easy campus life. The administration of the university puts all the efforts to make sure that no student is facing any problem on the HPNLU campus and if any student faces any problem, the administration tries to find the solution as soon as possible.
- Hostel: HPNLU provides separate hostels for boys and girls. The room has AC and non-AC rooms for the students.

- Living near mountains is a real bliss. Faculty is very cooperative.

- University does not have it's own hostels.
- University is 22km away from shimla. So don't be mistaken that it's in shimla.
Admission:
University accepts admission only by CLAT. It's cutoff goes upto 2200. However one can get admission at the time of vacancies. Here around 25% is reserved for Himachal Pradesh students. Exams are analytical based and they are hard to pass.

- The faculty is permanent , Experienced and Supportive, also they are mostly from other NLUs and eminent law colleges such as DU , Amity , etc.
- Access to other NLUs and being a part of the NLU culture has made me open to more opportunities and a niche legal culture, the NLU tag is worth it when it comes to getting internships and placements.
Dislikes
- The placements are very low and internship opportunities are limited.
- The administration is rigid and unsupportive.
Admission:
The eligibility of the course is to clear the CLAT entrance exam which offers admission to the 23 NLUs. To appear for this exam, one must score minimum 45% for general category and 40% for SC/ST in 12th standard. Hence, National law university , shimla only takes admissions based on CLAT ranking. My clat rank was 1847. And the cut-off is 1300-2800 in general category and 20000 for the reserved categories. HPNLU also offers 25% reservation for Himachal Pradesh Domicile candidates and the cut-off goes upto 8000. The cut-off for the vacant seats may go higher. The application form is available on the official website of HPNLU. The admission process is : Appear for clat exam , participate in the counselling process, as per your preference list , if you get admission in HPNLU, then you will receive an official mail, after that they will assist in admission. The process shall be free of erroes and response mechanism should be adhered. The response mechanism was not good.
Admission:
The admission process is governed by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the consortium of NLUs. Eligibility- no age limit, minimum 45% in 10+2 (General, OBC) and 40% (SC, ST) The application form is available on consortiumofnlus.ac.in and applications usually open at the beginning of the year while the exam takes place sometime around May. It contains 5 sections- GK, legal aptitude, logic, English, and elementary mathematics. The score determines your rank and thereby the university (NLU) you shall be allotted.
Course Curriculum Overview:
Course and Academics: My college provides Hons. Degree option too in various subjects such as sociology, hrd, economics, and political science. The syllabus is also very inclusive of the current laws. We also have the liberty to choose topics for our research assignments on our own.Faculties: Thorough with the subject they teach. The make classes very interactive and interesting, and also appreciate doubts and queries.

The LLM course of the college offers specialisation in two courses, constitutional law and criminal law. I had opted 4 criminal law. It included all the laws and judiciary related course study. it is basically a further extension of what we have studied in the LLB program.
