Overall, this is only one of the very few institutions in India which produces human beings instead of money making machines. Ones entry in this college ensures that he/she develops academically, mentally, emotionally, physically and as a good human being. Being a part of this University for more than 2 years, this definitely is my second home(my school was never my 2nd home).
To be honest I cannot find any negative remarks about our university. The freedom I experienced, with the immense amount of knowledge I amassed has made me who I am today. Freedom of thought, freedom of speech, and in depth knowledge in my field - I gained everything from there.
Quality of Faculty, placements, senior-junior relationship, all are at their peak. But, like every college, JU jas some setbacks. The thing which is overrated in this college is the Students' union. In some way or the other, it is degrading the college. Also, the hygiene of the campus is below average.
I had given a exam called WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination). I got 101 marks out of 200. The exam consist of physics, chemistry and maths questions. I got 802 rank in that exam and got admitted.
There are many excellent colleges in India but if we want to take admission in those colleges we have to pay a large fees in lakhs. There are many families who cannot afford such a huge fees and they will have to take loan for their studies. JU is only a high rated college in which every poor can study without any burden of loan. However poor he may be JU always helps its student for their study.
Positives related to the college us that we do have a wide research scope in this university, and this pro helps us in good NIRF rankings. The negative part of this college is the movements associated with union. Though it has minimal effect on our studies, still people do have a fear instilled regarding politics.
JU is the best state college in West Bengal. Along with your career it allows to persuade your hobbies as well. I was part of the student body FETSU which looks after the students' interest and sits in a discussion with authority to decide the policy best for the students. In short, JU made me a complete person that I am today.
Now only negative feedback about the college is its infrastructure ,founded in 1905 it certainly possesses the same kind of infrastructure that it earlier had. Various kinds of reforms are required to be there which are happening but little slowly as fund from the central government is 0 and it runs from the fund only provided by the state government which is itself not very big but a little improvement is seen and more improvement is required to be there.
The campus environment is awesome and the teaching methodologies are awesome, but for non-Bengali students who cannot cope up with the Bengali culture prevailing in the campus, it may be a bit difficult.
