RGIPT or Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology is a public government college of Uttar Pradesh. It has been ranked 136th by NIRF 2020.

PDPU or Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University is an engineering college in Gandhinagar.

UPES(The University of Petroleum and Energy) is a private engineering college in Dehradun, Uttrakhand. It has been ranked 66th by NIRF 2020. It is recognized by UGC, NAAC, and AIU.

Admissions:

• In RGIPT, for admissions in B.Tech, the applicant must pass 12th with a minimum of 60% aggregate and qualify for the JEE Advanced entrance exam.

• PDPU admission criteria are the passing certificate of the 12th class and JEE MAINS.

• The eligibility required for B. Tech in UPES is at least 50% marks in 12th and JEE MAINS.

Fee Structure:

• For B. Tech in RGIPT, the fee structure is of INR 9.7 lakhs only.

• The fee structure of PDPU is 2.53 lakhs (1st year).

• UPES charges a total fee of 10.16 lakhs – 16.74 lakhs.

Placements:

RGIPT:

• The placement rate of the Institute is 80%.

• The highest package offered in the placement of RGIPT is INR 21 lakhs per annum.

• The average package offered in the Institute was INR 6 lakhs per annum while the lowest package offered was INR 3 lakhs per annum.

• The top recruiters of RGIPT are Adani Group, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Cairn Energy India Ltd., Essar Oil, Globus, Haldia Petrochemicals, Hindustan Petroleum, HP, ICICI.

PDPU:

• The placement rate offered by the Institute is 65%.

• The highest package of the Institute goes up to INR 19.20 lakhs per annum, the average package offered was around INR 4 lakhs per annum and the lowest was INR 2 lakhs per annum.

• The top recruiters of the college are ONGC, Nayara Energy, Reliance Industry, Adani Gas, Torrent Gas, L&T Technology Services, Shell Business Operations, Sabarmati Gas, Protiviti, Hansa Group, ExxonMobil.

UPES:

• The placement rate of the college is 95%.

• The highest salary offered is INR 20 lakhs per annum, the average salary offered on the campus is INR 4.5 lakhs per annum while the lowest salary is INR 3 lakhs per annum.

• The top recruiters of UPES are Tata Technologies, Maruti, Royal Enfield, Bosch, Amazon, IBM, Panasonic, Philips.

All the colleges are related to petroleum engineering and offer decent academics and placement opportunities for the same. So, choose an institute according to your convenience.

Both Chitkara and CGC Landran are at the same level. As far as placements are concerned, both of them offer excellent placements with well-developed placement cells.

UPES is definitely more concentrated on petroleum and chemical engineering. It also has some unique courses and a really good reputation and you will get to learn a lot. Fees might be a little expensive though.

My advice to you would be to not choose electronics and communication engineering at either of them because placements are not that great and you don’t want to end up with CSE students and learn coding in the last few months of your college.

While the fees for UPES are quite high, you can expect to get a similar return on your investment. At the same time, you will not be pestered for admissions like in my brother’s case with regards to CGC Landran and CU. The faculty at UPES is very good too. 

UPES has a 'B' grade provided by NAAC Accreditation and is ranked 167th in India by NIRF whereas PDPU has an 'A' grade provided by NAAC Accreditation and is graded Autonomy by UGC. It's ranked 177th in India by NIRF.

MIT WPU has a 'B' grade provided by NAAC Accreditation and is ranked 138th in India by NIRF.

Admissions:

UPES

• The college accepts students based on the JEE Main and UPESEAT scores with 50% in 10+2.
• The total fee for B.Tech in all three Petroleum Engineering programs is 15.57 lakhs.

PDPU

• The college accepts students based on the JEE Main score with 45% in 10+2.
• The total fee for B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering is 9.73 lakhs.

MIT

• The college accepts students based on the JEE Main and MHT CET scores with 50% in 10+2.
• The total fee for B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering is 9.73 lakhs.

Faculty:

Petroleum Engineering faculties of UPES Dehradun, PDPU Gandhinagar, and MIT WPU Pune are well-qualified as most of the faculties in every college are Ph.D. holders and have years of experience in teaching.

Placements:

UPES

• The placement rate of last year is about 90% with the highest package of INR 17 LPA and the average package of INR 5.35 LPA.
• College does provide summer internship opportunities and is mandatory for all graduate students.
• Top recruiters of 2020 are Accenture, Ashok Leyland, HCL, Infosys, Schlumberger, Vedanta, Exxon Mobil, Hyundai Group, L&T Technology Services, ONGC, Torrent Power, etc.

PDPU

• The placement rate of last year is about 70% with the highest package of INR 16.6 LPA and the average package of INR 6.75 LPA.
• The highest package for Petroleum Engineering was of INR 3.3 LPA.
• Top recruiters of 2020 are Adani Power, Berger Paints, Byju’s, Cloud 24*7 Inc, Gujarat State Petronet Ltd, Honeywell, L&T Technology Services, Mahindra & Mahindra, MG Motors, OPS Hub, Nyara Energy, Reliance Industries, Synoptek, TCS, Tata Power, Worley, ZealousWeb, etc.

MIT

• Over 140 companies visit the engineering campus every year for recruitment.
• The placement rate of last year is about 60% with the highest package of INR 37.26 LPA and the average package of INR 3.20 LPA.
• College does provide internship opportunities and about 85% of students got internships.
• Top recruiters of 2020 are Amazon, Amdocs, JCB, Force Motors, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Reliance, Wipro, L&T, Hyundai, etc.

As for choosing a better college that completely depends on the interest and preferences of the individual.

All the institutes are reputed and offer quality education. Nirma University is a NAAC approved university and has ranked 13th for MBA by Outlook India in 2020. UPES Dehradun has ranked 21 for Law and is a B grade university according to NAAC’s evaluation. Symbiosis Hyderabad is UGC approved and has been marked as an A grade university.

Academics:

Nirma University:

• Some of the popular courses at the institute are BTech, MBA, BALLB, MTech, LLM, etc.

• In order to take admission for BA LLB students are required to have a valid CLAT score. For LLM admission students are required to take PG CLAT.

UPES Dehradun:

• BA LLB, BCom LLB, LLM are some of the popular law courses at UPES Dehradun.

• Selection of the BALLB, BComLLB programs are through ULSAT. LLM candidates need to take the ULSAT-LLM examination.

Symbiosis Hyderabad:

• Aspiring students who want to take admission at Symbiosis Hyderabad for BA L.L.B must clear the SLAT exam.

• The SLAT cut off remains around 94.

Nirma University:

• The highest and the average packages that are usually offered to the students remain to be around 12 LPA and 5.6 LPA.

• The minimum offered package varies between 3 LPA to 4 LPA
