IIM Shillong being the 7th oldest IIM ,after IIM Indore , provide one of the best PGP program . My rationale behind choosing PGP course of IIM Shillong was it being a general course ,without any specialisation. It gives opportunity to explore all fields of management like Marketing, Analytics , Operations ,HR , Consulting etc, and didn't restrict your career scope to one specialisation. There are in total 42 faculty members for PGP core course ,evenly covering all domains of studies. Additionally ,in each trimester college keep on inviting guest faculties as well. All faculties have done Phd in their fields , which clearly reflects in their teaching style. IIM Shillong conduct 3 trimesters each year. Academics become pretty tough ,if a student is not good at time management accommodating with stress. IIM Shillong is pretty hectic and tough in terms of exams and academics.

The course curriculum is excellent as well as faculty members are also extremely experienced and possess industry knowledge. the faculty-student ratio is around 1:7. They use practical teaching methods. Term exams are slightly tough as the standard of IIM Shillong is very high and it is one of the top institutes in India.
It's a two-year residential program with rigorous academics. The course curriculum addressed all important components of the management idea as well as the economy's most recent industry trends. The course is developed in a comprehensive approach, encompassing material from numerous professions and allowing students to get a taste of how other routes work before deciding on a specialty. Professors use pedagogical practices to help students gain a better knowledge of the material. Despite the fact that the classes were held online due to the pandemic teachers were amazing and we also experienced real-time case studies and various activities for better understanding.
The course is designed in a holistic manner covering subjects from various fields giving students an opportunity to get a taste of how different avenues work and take a pick for their specialisation. Even though the classes are conducted online because of the pandemic, the faculty always came prepared to class and tried to match the experience even in the online mode.
I have no prior work experience and I chose this course to understand various aspects of management which would prepare me for my career. It provided me with various academic and professional opportunities to explore and enhance my skill set. The faculty-student ratio is 30:200. The professors have diverse teaching methods, employing various tools. In the COVID scenario, they adapted to the situation and made efforts to make the classes as enriching and interactive as possible. We had 3 terms per year where we were rigorously tested on concepts and made to adapt to a high-stress environment, considering the various on-campus activities.
I was fairly confused about what to do after my graduation and my stream was biotechnology. I was fairly confused, so after evaluating all my options, I decided to do my MBA weighing up my pros and cons. The ratio is around 1:40 The faculty is fairly mixed with some very good teachers mixed with few average ones. The exams were quite timely and the exams were fairly easy barring some of the subjects.
The course curriculum for the first year was aptly designed by the institute which covered all the fields related to business management. In the second year, a lot of subjects were floated by faculty which participants can select on the basis of their interest.
Course fees is 10,32,800 for 1st year and 10,03,000 for 2nd year. The fees was hiked for our batch compared to last batch. They gave a minor concession due to classes being done online but most of us still believe it is unnecessarily expensive.Financial assistance is only offered to students whose family income is below 6 lakhs. I did not get any financial assistance or stipend on campus.
The fee is around 20 lakhs for 2 years and there is an NBFA scholarship i.e. Need-Based Financial Assistance scholarships and it is open to all the people who have a family income of fewer than 6 lakhs.
The course structure is a decent mix of the traditional MBA and the modern industry practices with the special focus on sustainability acting as a cherry on top. The institute has some of the most renowned names as faculties and a free-flowing method of transferring knowledge and a healthy faculty to student ratio. We at IIM Shillong call the faculties as facilitators, as they are more like the guide who gives you the right direction and a solid base upon which you can build the castle that you gave your blood sweat, and tears. Being a management institute the curriculum and exams are very well managed and are always conducted on time. Deadlines are sacrosanct at IIM Shillong. The level of curriculum and exams will prepare you for your future journey as a professional and will make you well versed with all the nuances that you will need to succeed there.
When considering a business school program, especially a one-year program, it is important to consider the cohort of the peer group and the experiences they bring to the table. While the faculty and brand of the school are important factors, the main source of knowledge in these courses often comes from peer group interaction through group discussions, projects, and sharing of experiences.
Additionally, students may also be responsible for seeking out opportunities for placements, so it is important to research and connect with seniors and peers in the industry to get a sense of what the program has to offer. It is not advisable to rely solely on rankings or advertisements when making a decision, as there may be more to consider than what is immediately apparent. It is important to do thorough research and dig deep before committing to a program.
One of the major USPS of IIM Shillong is the diversity of electives it offers. Anyone who hasn’t decided on a domain can have a peek into the various angles of the business sector and then make a healthy decision.
The courses offered are flexible, comprising a blend of Marketing, HR, Operations, Finance, etc. This enables the students not to specialize in a single domain only. As far as HR is concerned, I have listed down some highlights of this particular domain at IIM Shillong.
At the end of the program, you will have developed a detailed knowledge of terms, concepts and insights.
No matter which B School you choose, PGP is always a better choice than ABM. But there might be a specific reason why you got an ABM offer rather than a PGP. But at IIM Lucknow, students of both programs are offered equal opportunities. These include final placements. summer placements and subsequent PPOs.
The major drawback of ABM is that you are deprived of the PGP electives and can cover ABM electives only. These electives cover strategy marketing and operations.
Talking about your offer from SP JAIN for IM, let me tell you that in this regard, IIM Shillong is a much better choice. Its campus in Dubai is a testament to its worth.
Asking others if you should join a certain program is illogical. I think it’s a decision that you have to take solely yourself. People can guide you in your decision but cannot make the decision on your behalf. That is exactly what I am here for. I will list down the parameters you should consider while making your decision. The rest is up to you.
Once you are sure about these things, making a good decision will become easier for you.
IIM Lucknow is one of the older IIMs and therefore has a stronger alumni base. IIMs mostly specialize in Core Management and Investment Banking. So before you consider taking Sustainable Management look up at the figures and campus records.
Sustainable Management is only beneficial if at the end of the program you have formed professional colleagues or have come up with a business idea.
Currently, Sustainable Development lacks the demand and credibility enjoyed by other domains. So it’s a risky choice and should be considered only if you are serious about it or don’t have any other options.
