- My Overall Experience at JGU was very good
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of B.A.(Hons.) Journalism & Media Studies of JSJC is extremely modern and well balanced. During these four years of study, curriculum was carefully curated to include internships in the credit system. The curriculum includes not only the traditonal fields but also topics such as AI in new media. Being provided with a modern studio equipped with radio and broadcast technologies enables me to combine theory and practice.
Internships Opportunities
I completed all my internships with the help and guidance of JSJC and JGU's Office of Career Services. Since academic credits are assigned to the field internship, the institution encourages us to get practical exposure every summer and winter. I had the opportunity to audio files, and also assist in fieldwork. Through practical experience in the newsrooms, I got the chance to create my professional portfolio even before my final year.
Placement Experience
I get career counselling through the Office of Career Services as I gear uo for my placements at JSJC. The OCS links us to top news channels in the country, digital media companies, PR firms, ad agencies, and content production houses. The seniors have bagged job positions ranging from multimedia journalists, podcasters, digital strategists, sub editors, to corporate communicators. Through our constant intercation with the industry and practice of portfolios and mock interviews, we are fully ready for the professional arena.
Fees and Financial Aid
For this four year course, the fee that i am paying is quite reasonable, keeping the facilities and opportunities in mind. JSJC has a world class infrastructure, including state of the art film studio, radio and TV studio, and access to all kinds of filming and editing equipment. The tuition, residential and allied charges are clearly mentioned in the brochures. There are no other hidden costs. This also takes care of food, laundry, and access to some of the best sports facilities, trainers, and an Olympic size swimming pool. Moreover, JGU provides many scholarship opportunities based on merit and means. Those candidates who score well in Class 12 are eligible to apply for a scholarship with proof of parental income, which definitely cuts down my tuition fees substantially for many.
Campus Life
Being a part of such an active college environment is one of the things that makes me enjoy JGU. Apart from my media courses, I actively take part in university festivals, cultural activities, and student organizations, from debate to photography. The Naveen Jindal Sports Academy provides some of the best sports facilities where i indulge in playing badminton and football in the evenings. With regular international speakers, media summits, and film screening activities organized at the university, students social lives remain engaging all throughout the year.
Admission
I gained admission to JSJC via a four stage holistic selection procedure. I provided my class 10th and 12th grades' scores, a statement about myself, along with an online application. After qualifying the entrance exam (JSAT), i went through the spontaneous writing round and personal interviews with the faculty members. These interviews were not based on memorized information but were about my awareness and love of media, which made the entire selection process fair and motivating.
Faculty
I get to study under a fantastic team of academicians and seasoned media professionals at JSJC, headed by Dean Kishalay Bhattacharjee. They have many years of experience working in renowned news agencies as field reporters and producers. The faculty members do not limit themselves to theoretical lectures, but rather guide us through the editing process in the studio, give us valuable feedback regarding our written assignments, and help us with our research work.
Night Life
I enjoy the campus nighlife, particularly during the editing of audio visual materials in the studio. Since the reading rooms and digital library facilities are available twenty four hours, my friends and i usually spend long nights editing our projects. Subsequently, we move to the food court and late night canteen facilities for some snacks and tea time. Taking quiet night walks along the well lit campus pathways with classmates is one of my favourite ways to relax.
