- My Overall Experience at JSLL has been very positive.
Course Curriculum Overview
I love that my BA English Honours isn't just about memorizing old classic poems. The curriculum here lets us explore cool electives like detective fiction, prison writing, or graphic narrative art, while blending regular literature with postcolonial aesthetics. I also love that i can just go straight into cross elective at other schools on campus without any hard restrictions. This completely changes how i look at the world and forces me to actually analyze the culture around me, which helps me a lot. I would rate the curriculum a 10 out of 10.
Internships Opportunities
I really saw how flexible this degree is when our mandatory internships started. JSLL connected us to media giants like Zee 24 Ghanta, Radio Mirchi, and NEWJ, plus top organizations like the Press Trust of India, Viyug, and Namaste Democracy. Some of my peers even worked with the British University in Egypt and the Kotak Education Foundation. This prcatical exposure teaches us how to deal with the workforce challenges long before wr actually graduate.
Placement Experience
I get so annoyed when people assume my English degree means i am just going to end up teaching at a school. Our placements show we are taking on corporate roles in content strategy, UX writing, public policy, and even training AI models. I have seen people from my program getting hired by recruiters like Republic Media Network, ITC Hotels, Simplotel, Growth Jockey, and IOTA Informatics. Whether I want to go into publishing, consulting, or corporate communications, the doors are wide open for roles that actually matter right now.
Fees and Financial Aid
I won't lie, the tuition fees plus residential costs make JGU a premium investment. But the exposure, support and training i am getting feel like every rupee is worth spending here. Moreover, they are quite supportive with their Merit cum Means scholarships, which can cover a huge part of your tuition costs. They look at your family income, class 12 marks, and how you do in the faculty interview, and they are pretty fair about it. It actually makes this kind of global education possible if you have the potential.
Campus Life
I spent most of my daytime hours between classes making full use of the incredible sports facilities here. The campus has everything from Olympic size swimming pools and a fully equipped indoor gymnasium to professional cricket grounds, football fields, and multiple tennis and basketball courts. If you aren't into heavy sports, there are dedicated spaces for yoga, aerobics, and indoor games like badminton and volleyball. It is a super active, fitness focused environment during the day that keeps you energized.
Admission
The application process here is way simpler and fairer that that of other universities. Instead of just considering my board percentages, they actually looked at who i am through a personal statement and scores from tests like that JSAT, SAT, or ACT. The final hurdle was an interview with the faculty, and they are honestly just trying to see how your brain works and how you think critically, rather than forcing you to recall memorized textbooks facts.
Faculty
I get to learn from professors who actually studied at some of the best universities in the world, like Dr. Somdatta Bhattacharya or Dr. Niyati Sharma, who brings her Oxford research background right into our classroom discussions. Because JSLL keeps the student to faculty ratio low, our classes feel way more like open discussions than like someone just reading off a slide and dictating notes. The teachers give real, personal attention to our essays, motivating us to explore complex, independent research ideas.
Night Life
I think the night vibe here is the best part of the whole campus experience. Since it is a fully residential university, the campus never slows down. The place is always active with either student led art exhibitions or cultural fests. Being a part of the JGU Theatre Society keeps everything alive with late night rehaersals and drama plays. And honestly, the massive food court is a lifesaver. It serves all kinds of cuisnes until 1 AM, so it's incredinly easy to grab snacks and just hang out with friends late into the night.
